As with most places in Modena, the staff spoke little English but I was shown an ipad with the menu in English. Nice touch. My Italian is just enough to get by but I needed a little help. I had the crispy shrimp appetizer and the Strozzapreti which is pasta with asparagus, squid and dry tomatoes. They did have many cold (uncooked) appetizers but I held off on that and went for the hot ones. The service was great and although my server didn't speak much English I was able to get her recommendations on the menu. My bill for the coperto (cover charge) a glass of white wine, a bottle of water, appetizer, meal, and cafe (espresso) was 45 euros. It is a little more than other places but well worth it. Interestingly I paid almost exactly the same amount a day earlier (minus the cafe) for a suboptimal meal at a restaurant which was about a 2 min. walk from here and didn't receive good food or good service. If you're in Modena, don't miss this place.

It's not just a properly prepared piece of fish but the attention to detail in each dish. Every time the waiter walks out you'll be surprised at how pretty the plates are and the accents in the dish. I also like how known classics in this region are served with a seafood spin to it. Passatelli for instance, you find here prepared with lobster in a rich tomato sauce. The staff I found to be super friendly, the drinks on point and mature. The restaurant itself has a nice interior and great ambience. Perfect crust with fresh and raw inside. Again the olive pesto used as condiment, very good choice. Dessert was not fished based but an honest chocolate cream. Well presented as the rest of the dishes. Whine list is interesting and well cured. Service was good with quite some attention to details and presentation. Still could improve but over all very pleasant. The location is outside the city center so you need to grab a car or a cab. Decor is normal. No big things. The owner is usually directing the games. I peaked in early while the staff was getting ready for service to try and get a reservation; i was greeted by friendly smiling faces that set us up for an 8:30 p.m. table. We sat outside at an elegant table and our dinner began with smiles and a great local white wine. My appetizer was small scallops on purée of purple potato, cubed foie gras with a basil vanilla oil. My wife had roasted squid tentacles with arrabbiata sauce, burrata cheese drizzled with olive oil. For our primo i had black fermented garlic pappardelle with shrimp tartare, mullet bottarga and pistachio crumbles. My wife had a great plate of gnocchi with clams, flavored with zucchini flower, lemon and pepper. The secondo was a simple but great dish of fried calamari and shrimp with a tarragon based dipping sauce. My wife had prawns al Vermentino with a snapper reduction on a bed of slivered vegetables. We shared crunchy mascarpone cannoli dusted with cinnamon, drizzled with a pistachio chocolate sauce and meringhe crumbles for desert. As she was planning to seat us, a younger woman walked in and looked us, then said something to the old lady, then told us there was no table for us. That's all and she walked away! Clearly she was not happy to seen couple of Asian wants to have lunch in her place! Well, that's her losses. We walked out and eat a restaurant right around the corner with amazing foods and services. At the end, we are so glad that we didn't eat there. The tortellini itself was simple, with some meat and cheese. Seems like a nice comfort food for those who grow up with it. However at the end we thought we had ordered panna cotta and for some reason it never came.
