im a big fan of street murals and public art. this is my fav from Cinci .. maybe fav mural ever…read more unfortunately there was stuff in the way ... crane ..trash dumpster ect. but its still amazing. its one of the many murals on mural map. our first trip to see murals from the art map .. will return to see more on the llst. i was having shoulder surgery the next day and wanted to get out and have fun my last day before this painful journey. i type this review with one arm in a sling  ... i chose to spend the day in Cinci.  i love playing with my camera and walkng about. my husband who known me well after 23 yrs knew getting out would get my mind off my fear.       i had commented several times id like to send the day exploring cincis murals and thats what we did. we looked up a mural map and parked ... walked about.  we didnt see them all .. just small potion. it was hot and humid but really fun.        this was one we found and i tried to pic the plaques to keep track of what we needed to find next time.  cinci has amazing murals!

Cincinnati is packed with murals. This mural overlooks a parking lot and is a basic, but large…read moremural depict a bouquet of flowers. It is the work of a Detroit based artist Louise Jones, artistically known as Ouizi, whose specializes in floral murals. She painted it in 2019 and was inspired by blooms she had photographed at the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC during a road trip with her mom. In the mural Jones uses white daisies, white jasmine, and orange roses. The mural is starting to show signs of deterioration especially near the bottom of it, but the wall it is painted on was not the best to start with. Also, being that it overlooks a parking lot, sometimes the bottom portion of the mural may be obstructed, but it is only a small portion. There is some in metered street parking in a reasonable waking distance. There are also commercial garages and lots you can park in, but they are pretty pricy. I just pulled into the lot that it overlooked, took a good look at the mural and then left. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other murals in the area or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. I just did a mural tour of the downtown area. There are a ton within about a half mile of each other.

From the left: Sheila Donaldson Johnson, senior paralegal at OJPC, DeAnna Hoskins, president and CEO of JustLeadership USA, a national organization dedicated to decarceration and who created the first office of re-entry in Hamilton County; Tyra Patterson, social justice activist and community outreach strategy specialist with Ohio Justice and Policy Center (OJPC); Tracy Brumfield, the founder of RISE, a publication that provides information and resources to inmates in preparation for release; and Belinda Coulter-Harris who now works at Cincinnati Works, where she helps to connect people coming home to jobs and resources. Time Saved vs. Time Served was brought to life through a team of eight Youth Apprentices and two Teaching Artists. Public Art [Florence KY]…read more On our way to Cincinnati we took a little detour to stop by this mural, we were nearby when I saw the check-in in Yelp. Well, it wasn't really as close as I thought since we were coming from Louisville (I-71) and still had to cut across US 42 towards Florence. It was still a drive (luckily, I have a patient husband). We found it and it is located in a quiet part of Main Street in Florence KY. The mural is painted on a brick wall of Stringtown Bar & Grill and is a little twist on the Looney Tunes signature closing sequence written over the bullseye, it says "That's Y'all, Folks!" Some people have discovered this sign for fun pics but I'm not sure if this quiet neighborhood will like it once it gets a little more popular. It was a fun stop, quick, unexpected and random. This is a very intriguing piece that is located on the side of 21c Cincinnati in Gano Alley. It is…read morethe brainchild of artist Michael Coppage whose goal was to positively highlight Black men, promote understanding and empathy, and foster education and healing, The mural is photo quality and depicts 13, 6 foot tall portraits of black men wearing shirts with an assigned noun such as heart, ice, man, death, out and sheep, preceded by the word BLACK. Each photo has a corresponding podcast that can be accessed from QR codes on the art. In the background of the 13 images are smaller pop culture style pictures. It is almost as if those images were already there and the main BLACK BOX images were placed right over top of it. I really, really like this project and the concept behind it. It is sad that it is located in an alley and not prominently featured. When I was there, there were a lot of cars parked in front of the piece, partially obstructing the view of it. Construction in the area has really limited metered street parking to get a closer look of this mural. There is still some in a reasonable waking distance. I parked about a quarter mile away. There are also commercial garages and lots you can park in, but they are pretty pricy. You could easily pull into the alley that the mural is located, get out and take a closer look Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. With this in mind, the Center for Biological Diversity's Endangered Species Mural Project works with artists, scientists, and organizers to bring endangered wildlife onto the streets of cities and towns around the country. These murals are imagined as tools to help celebrate local endangered species within communities, and to encourage people to make connections between conservation and community strength. Spearheaded by Portland artist Roger Peet, the mural project promotes an affinity for the natural world and the diverse species that help define it."(www.biologicaldiversity.org) For the 17th installment of the Endangered Species Mural Project, Roger Peet partnered with ArtWorks to create two murals along Cincinnati's Little Miami Scenic Trail to feature the Indiana Bat on the walls of a 1,000 square-foot underpass. I was recently in Downtown Cincinnati for a weekend stay a month ago. I am an international student…read morefrom Norway who has been in the States for two months now. I have traveled a lot in my 18 years on this planet, but this is my first time outside of Europe. I have been to 12 countries in total and have been to a lot of cities in different countries. Cincinnati was my first impression of an American city, and my expectations were high. I expected a clean, colorful, and fun riverside city that had a lot to offer. I went there with my mom because she came to visit me. We stayed at Quality hotel Downtown Cincinnati, witch were a pretty outdated and disappointing hotel. The first day, we walked over a big bridge over to the Ohio side and in to the city, we headed north up towards Washington Park and Cincinnati soccer stadium. All I saw within a 1 km radius was just grey beat down buildings, homeless people and trash. It was really ugly and disgusting to be honest. I have never in my life seen that many homeless as in Downtown Cincinnati. We also thought it was really weird, because there were no stores or places to eat at all. We eventually reached Washington Park where there was a second hand marked, witch were cool. Big ups for that! After that we headed down towards the river and the football stadium after advice from a friend. After touring the stadium and walking alongside the river, we quickly realized that this was the "nicer area" of the city. We walked until we reached the baseball stadium and also walked over the river to the Newport area and the Aquarium. I have to say that these areas actually met my expectations. The next day we also viewed the high rise area, with also met my expectations. Clean, good infrastructure, cafes and no homeless people. I also have to give credit to the life of the city. We were fortunate to be there at the same time as the Oktoberfest in the park alongside the river, which was fun. There were a lot of people and fun activities. An inviting and social event for everyone. There was also a Bengals game that same day, which was also fun to witness. We did not go, because we went out to eat, but it was something that gave life to the city and lifted the overall spirit. Overall I have to give it a 3/5 rating. The nicer areas and the culture of the city lifts the rating up, but other than that it was a lot of bad aspects of the city. There was really ugly areas downtown filled with trash, old and almost destroyed buildings, no colors or soul, no stores or activities, and a huge amount of homeless people. I truly believe that there is more homeless people in Downtown Cincinnati than in every Norwegian city combined.
