At Studio Stage Door all stylists are Japanese and a big chunk of their clientele is Japanese as well. I like this very much, as I kind of feel transported into another world when I come here to get my hair cut. I especially enjoy the lively chatter in a tongue that seems so familiar yet is still so different from either of the languages that I speak. It is at moments like this, when I'm absolutely thrilled to live in a cosmopolitain city! Originally, I heard about this place through my partner who is Asian and who treasures the special skills of the stylists here: they know how to handle the straight & often tricky hair so typical for the Asian people. But also, they also still master the art of a full-fledged scissors hair-cut...no razors allowed! Last but not least, everybody here is just super-friendly and always welcomes you with a bright smile.

Took an hour to do a pretty basic haircut, i have short hair, just needed a re-shape nothing fancy, a bob haircut. My head looks like an egg right now, i was even asked at work today : did you wear a hat that your hair is so flat??? AJ lightly curled and tousled my hair to pretty much exactly match the photo I'd brought him of the hairstyle I wanted for a wedding. I know this seems like a very simple thing to do for a professional but you would not believe the amount of times I've explained what I've wanted to a hairdresser and they've made all the right agreeing noises and then completely failed. I'm always too polite to say anything so pay and leave then go home and sob and try and re-do it...and usually make it worse. I don't like too much curl in my hair as I have such a round face. Seriously. My sister nicknamed me Moonface and it caught on pretty quickly! AJ tousled it just right and I skipped away a happy bunny. Had many-a-compliment that day on my hair. I'm usually the first person to slag of Toni&Guy haircuts (they only have about 10 different ones…read moreyou know) which their staff are dying to practice on you, as soon as they're back from their seasonal 'key looks' training for the month. Yet, one week I was desperate for a blow dry at short notice so I succumbed to the Muswell Hill Branch. My stylist was a super friendly mum called Sue, who thankfully really doesn't fit the T&G mold. She spent ages blowing my long hair into curls and didn't come near me with T&G's favourite utensil, the dreaded GHD's; I wanted big, bouncy retro curls, not WAG curls. She's such a calm person, so not only did I end up with fabulous hair for the big night ahead, but I felt really relaxed when I left too, something that I would have never associated with T&G. I'd just like to note that in no way am I promoting Toni&Guy. I'm promoting the lovely Sue and as long as she's there I'll keep going.

Paige cut and blow dried my hair; fringe and layering. The fringe is perfect modern and messy! i also love the layers they make my hair lighter and the shape is perfect. She asked lots of questions about how i like my hair and listened to how i wear it day to day ect. so she could cut it perfectly. Paige was lovely and friendly and professional. 10/10 would recommend, thank you so much!!

Barrons has been here for a long time - so it's formula must be working. Staff are good at what they do - you're guaranteed of a good cut, colour, blowdry. They also have a portrait photography studio downstairs. Barrons are also very particular about the products they use : Phyto, Nioxin and Aveda and they avoid the scary chemical stuff. I've tried a few of the other salons in MH, and would rate Barrons as one of the top salons in the area.
