I arranged for two different estimates for my elderly mother-in-law. We live in Arizona and she lives in Texas. It is hard to trust a company not to take advantage of an elderly person when not present with them. My mother-in-law got a quick and on time quote, and a fair quote, from A Cut Above, but she wanted two estimates. The second estimate was quite a bit higher!! It wasn't just about price. We felt confident that A Cut Above would do the job right even at a lesser price!! They were very professional!! They are also licensed, bonded and insured. The small jobs are just as important to them as the big jobs!! They do big and small jobs with care and concern, and they left the area cleaned up beyond expectation!! The 50 year old Mulberry tree in the front yard had to go to make way for new driveway and carport. I got 2 bids, and Broken Willow was the easy choice. The price difference was big enough that I verified what was going to be done. The elm tree in the back yard was horribly overgrown. Three days later, two trees are gone and the elm has been trimmed beautifully. They ground the stumps and even a couple of big surface roots. A great job and I am completely satisfied. My sewage line wasn't draining properly so I got bid from them. They used a camera (sophisticated) to explore the sewage line, which was about 60 ft from the fence line/alley. Guy said that it was old clay pipe that needed to be replaced for $7000. And they would have to replace it all the way to the city main, which would make Abilene the only city that allows anyone to work on their city mains. So just to check on what the city had which I figured was upgraded to pvc (it was) I dug down to the sewer line at the edge of the property. So I started digging down to the sewer line a couple of other places just to verify what the plumber claimed. It ended up only being clay about 10 ft on my property from the city's line. So if the guy had been honest and not tried to grossly exaggerated or pad the estimate he would have said replace the 10 feet of clay because he couldn't have missed it with the camera that he ran from the trap next to my house down toward the fence line. This is probably a common way that unscrupulous plumbers line their pockets. It took a day to dig up that 10 ft of clay and replace w pvc. Cost $89 for supplies. What a profit margin. The sad thing or maybe part of the scam was the fish (Christian) symbol on his truck.

They came over on Saturday to give us a quote and arrived shortly before 8am Monday morning to start working. They quoted us very close to the last company and even did a few extras. We had a small storm come through while getting the work done and (without me asking) they accessed the attic space to ensure no water came through to ruin insulation or ceilings. The work was done quickly, minimal mess while working, the crew was very respectful and they were very responsive to any questions or concerns. I had a few things I needed that they just couldn't do for reasons outside their control(like a discontinued vinyl siding panel), but they gave me options to best resolve the issue. The team stated that they didn't have a drill bit for brick (not sure how on that big truck) and had to run and get some (another hour billed for lunch for all I know...) but when getting this bill, it had $200 of tools on it including extension cords, etc. What is really irritating is that I had to insist on an itemized bill to find all of this out.
