History
Established in 1908.
Some of the folks who settled in Maple Shade were Baptists and they traveled to far away Moorestown to worship at the Moorestown Baptist Church. There were enough of those Maple Shade Baptists that early in the twenties, a plot of ground was left to the Moorestown church for the purpose of building a Baptist church here.
Before any permanent structure was erected, eight Maple Shade Baptists held services in a tent at that site, Main and Poplar. It was September of 1924 and in less than six months, on March 2, 1925, the Reverand William Cusworth, pastor of the Moorestown church, presided over our first business meeting where it was decided to work toward divesting ourselves of ties with Moorestown as soon as our congregation grew sufficiently.
We did grow and before long, the tent was too small, and on a loan of $5,000, granted by the Camden Baptist Extension Society, we were able to move the empty and available Union Meeting House church building from its location in Mount Laurel.
Meet the Manager: Pastor Vince M.
Pastor Vince is currently serving in his 25th year as Senior Pastor at Immanuel. Having been born and raised here in Maple Shade, he enjoys over 50 years of memories and experiences in town. The greatest of those moments being when he came to a personal faith in Jesus as a teen, and was baptized in 1975.
Having met his wife Greta (from Medford Lakes, NJ) during his senior year in Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University), they eventually married in 1985. They are grateful for God's gift of three children, who rejoice in their salvation as adults now.
In his years prior to his ministry at Immanuel, Pastor Vince served as the Senior Pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Pastor Vince's wardrobe is often stained red because of his appetite for anything swimming in tomato sauce. He actually bleeds green as a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, and received the birthday gift (2/4/18) of a lifetime when the Eagles won the Super Bowl!
