I would like a virtual tour too but this was nice enough, if they would ease up on the heat, must have been 80 inside. Don't bother with a VIP package if you want a cushion but otherwise go for it and support local art venues! The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit has been popping up around the country for a while now, and what better place to experience it than in a cosmopolitan city like Chicago? Let's just say it comes with a price. The experience is summed up pretty nicely by others: 35 minute show that loops with music and art projected around you, minus the ceiling. The production itself was beautiful and I particularly loved the orchestral score, including the use of Adagio for Strings. I've always admired Van Gogh's work but if you are looking to learn more or be enthralled by his iconic pieces, you may be better off visiting his museum in Amsterdam (highly recommend btw!) You're welcome to stay after to continue enjoying the show. Be forewarned though that people will often come and go, and like many of us millenials, will want to take photos alongside the walls as the art is being projected. If you aren't a fan of this or it distracts you, then I'd reconsider visiting. Lastly, I can't help but feel cheated by the price of admission though. For a $65 flex ticket (which was all that was available at time of purchase), you were able to enter within +/- 2 hours of your designated time. For a 35-minute show projected onto the walls, it was a bit much in my opinion. If you've got the time, money, and appreciation for gorgeous art, then definitely check out the exhibit. read more

I enjoyed this exhibit even more than I expected I would. Tall walls served to showcase dramatic, ever-changing images set to music. My best advice is to not look into the exhibit too much before going. Just go and take it in. As far as notes about the venue, they will confiscate water bottles, but soft drinks and adult beverages are available for purchase while viewing. Though it may seem like you are only afforded an hour or so, you are free to stay for as many loops as you like, as there is no system for monitoring when one departs (at least that was the case for our Friday afternoon visit). This is a must-see, and I am thrilled to have immersed myself into this dynamic experience. read more

This adventure went smoothly, with easy metered street parking, ticketing via phone, quick security check, and enough space for social distancing. We all wore masks, although we are vaccinated. About 25% of other guests were masked. All-gendered restrooms, very clean. The whole space was very clean! Staff was attentive and welcoming. The cost was rather expensive, for the 35 minute experience. We stayed about 45 minutes, then visited the gift shop. So, all in, about an hour start to finish. It was beautiful and the music was lovely. But for this price, I might have done something else. It's just that I'm on a super tight budget and this was our big splurge for the summer. But I didn't realize it was only 35-minutes!! It's pretty and really well done. It would make a nice date night outing, if you pair it with dinner at a local restaurant. But boy is it expensive. The larger than life Van Gogh images were "layered" and they all moved across the walls, so that it almost created a 3D looking effect. Coupled with the beautiful music, it was magical. We came here for the one of my daughter's birthday wishes for our trip. She truly enjoyed the entire show. While my husband and also enjoyed the show but felt the ticket prices are a bit high for what you get. The ticket prices are extremely high ranging from $55- $99 for non packages. The show is a 30-35 minute looped show that is shown in all the rooms of the museum. While the music and the moving artwork is well done I truly thought each room would provide different images or experience. We came during "Peak hours" on a Friday night but only did the general admission, so happy we didn't opt for the higher price tickets as for us the items you receive were not worth it. They have a bar and push purchasing a drink while you watch the show, as you leave there is a small cafe next to the gift shop full of all kinds of merchandise from facial mask to finer jewelry. We chose to do the valet parking, the exhibit validates which keeps the cost at a flare rate instead of the changing cost based on your hourly stay. The staff was helpful and there are COVID restrictions in place along with hand sanitizer in many areas of the exhibit. read more

Came here with my fiancé on Saturday night and it was definitely a cool experience. We were able to walk right in at the time of our ticket, and there were no lines. Everything is very organized when you walk in before the exhibit. The door guy checked to make sure we had tickets, then we walked in and the lady took our temperatures and then scanned the tickets. Then, we walked up some stairs, and another girl explained where the bar areas are and explained that the place is pretty much a circles so you cant miss any of the show since both exhibit rooms play the same show. The art and music were beautiful and fun to watch and hear. At first, we stood/sat in the back of the second room, but the mirrors in the middle of the room were not helpful at all and actually very intrusive. However, we stayed to rewatch the show, and got a seat on the white booth in the middle of the room and our view was SO much better. The mirrors actually ended up adding to the experience depending on the angle you were sitting at in the room. I suggest if you go, walk around to different angles of the room, because you could miss so much if you don't. I do believe that the tickets were a bit too expensive for the experience. It was beautiful and immersive, but the show is only 30 minutes and a bit overrated. Also, the gift shop and bar areas took up more rooms than the actual show itself (BUT, there were plenty of socially distanced circles and there still was a decent amount of space. They were constantly counting the number of people in the place due to COVID restrictions). I kinda wish we saw the show on the balcony, as well, but honestly, after watching the same show twice, I didn't need to see it a third time. We DID have fun, but it was a bit disappointing, in my opinion. I am glad we got the experience to go, though, and I'm happy I bought the tickets back in January before they all sold out. read more

What a unique experience. My sister got me tickets to this for my birthday, since at the time it was one of the few events that was doing social distancing. I wasn't too sure but to expect, but it was really cool. I liked that our tickets came with a Van Gogh mask. The projections were very pretty, and the music was super pretty. It was cool to be able to enjoy it at our own pace and just sit and vibe for however long we wanted to. Naturally, there's tons of photo taking, but everyone that was there at the time we went was really respectful about it and it wasn't really noticeable. There's a cafe that offers French desserts and cookies that look like paintings, which was cute. There's also a gift shop that had a very wide range of souvenirs available, from pins and socks to glassware and umbrellas. This is my second Van Gogh Exhibit, so I knew the drill. Or so I thought. We got the Premium ticket, which entitled us to flexible entry (+/- 1 hour from our reservation), a free poster, and a cushion to sit on. The good: - We had the opportunity to go through the gift shop while we waited. - We could sit and wait for our entry time in an air-conditioned seating area. - We stayed through one round, then walked around the other rooms and balcony to get a different vantage point. The bad: - The flexible entry was not beneficial at all because our reservation was for 5:30, but the venue didn't open until 5:30. - There were only two posters left to choose from instead of eight. - The cushion was so worn and not at all cushiony. - The crowd was not controlled. It seemed crowded and the entry to the immersive experience was a divided curtain that stayed open most of the time, so the digital displays were disrupted and light reflected off the mirrors during the show. Immersive art is the new thing! Found a promo code via instagram and was able to save 35%. I have attended all three shows (Van Gogh, Kahlo, Mozart). Premium ticket is not worth the premium price unless you collect posters. The cushion is kind of flat and the idea is to move around and experience each area or wall. Kid friendly, date day or night friendly. I took the train from the burbs and got a Lyft. Treats and beverages are available in the gift shop, staff is friendly enough to answer questions. We felt the upsell from the moment we bought tickets and they asked us if we wanted to buy a cushion...it seemed the experience was mostly about that. Buy a drink, buy a scarf, buy a cushion, etc...Marketing genius at its best. I'm very familiar with Van Gogh and spent many hours at his museum in Amsterdam which was extraordinary. This projected his works on the wall and the curated sound track was well done, but it wasn't a deep or richness of art experience for us. If you don't know his works, it would be especially hard to enjoy. Certainly not worthy of the ticket price. The entire video loop lasts about 35 min and while there are a couple different rooms, they're about alternative perspective rather than alternative content. We were there less than an hour and we tried hard to find things to enjoy. Afterwards we felt a bit dizzy so sensory sensitive people should take care. Went to see the Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit today and it was amazing. Even if you aren't a fan of Van Gogh or Impressionism art, it's very cool to watch. I am a fan of both so I found it to be spectacular. The way his famous art takes shape and form on the walls and floors with the music was absolutely beautiful. It was not too loud as others mentioned. It was the perfect volume. Few tips: I wasn't a VIP guest but I was still able to get a seat. Go Early. Try to go before 10am to beat the lines and crowds. Watch it at least twice, once taking photos and once just watching it uninterrupted. Park on street. Metered parking on Clark. I parked on the street for $5. When they say immersive they mean it. It's not just the sight which completely envelopes the whole space, but also the sound. It's loud, it's surround, it's totally cool. Still pictures that moves. The paintings come to life with the invisible movement of the brush strokes. Even the floors are part of the canvas. All this is accompanied by music that fits the scene. It will move you. My husband surprised me with the VIP date package. It was $350 for 2, so quite pricey. We got to sit up in a balcony and enjoy the show. We had the balcony for about an hour and were given a $30 bottle of champagne and a box with 4 chocolates. The experience was nice. It was enjoyable to be away from the rest of the crowd. Since they clearly have not updated it to Frida Kahlo's immersive experience, I have to make my review here. This was a disappointment. This was a HORRIBLE and a disgrace to Frida Kahlo's artistry. This DID NOT represent Frida's trajectory. They barely showed any of her art, there was no storyline or cohesiveness. There were many blank moments where no art was shown. Half was Diego Rivera's art, the other half was Frida and some nonsense that had nothing to do with Frida Kahlo. The music made absolutely no sense. All kinds of absurd music that did not go with her art or Mexico. Clearly this was a quick, watered down, white washed version of a money grab immersive experience. The gift shop was a joke. They had Van Gogh all over the place. They were desperate to get rid of Van Gogh merchandise. Clearly, whoever made this, had no knowledge of Frida's artistry and caliber. read more

I think I set my expectations too high, because I was disappointed. At $65 a ticket, this 35-minute looped event just isn't worth the price. The visual presentation is very dynamic and features his most recognizable works. It's perfectly timed with a terrific musical score. But the audio is too loud, overpowering the visuals. (We were offered earplugs when we checked in.) The projection is grainy. I thought it would be an opportunity to see Van Gogh's brushstrokes magnified, but the clarity is not there. (The haystacks are an exception.) Forget about social distancing. It was packed on a Friday evening. Yes, I've had my shots... but I'm still not comfortable rubbing shoulders with people. Looked like less than 20% of the audience was wearing masks, us included. And forget about sitting on the floor unless you don't mind getting tripped over. Also disappointed in the free mask that came with our ticket. A neck gaiter? Really? But it was wonderful to be back in the Germania Club, which has been given a new life. It had become run down and was closed for years. It's now a Chicago landmark and completely renovated by new owners. Freshly painted, refinished wood floors, updated bathrooms, new windows and super clean. If this peaks an interest in Van Gogh, hopefully people will visit the Chicago Art Institute, where some of the originals featured here are on display. read more

This was so cool! I was familiar with 2 of his famous works like Starry Night and Sunflowers, but I discovered much more of his work that I didn't realize it was him. It was a great experience. The immersiveness was great. I felt enveloped by all of his artwork and loved that everywhere I looked, I could see people's reactions and see how the art lives in other ways and not just as a painting. I'm glad I didn't ask about it or look it up. It was great to go in and see it through my own eyes first. Don't be too sad if you don't get a seat you want. We weren't kicked out asap so we walked around and made our way up to the balcony. It's definitely a cool experience and not the same from being on the ground floor versus the balcony. If you can't sit for long or need padding, be sure to get a seat cushion from them. The seating isn't the most comfy. Giftshop has some neat items and the cafe has cute offerings. read more

I wanted to see the immersive Van Gogh exhibit since last year but between the state shut downs it was hard to get tickets. I finally got to go and I loved it so much that I watch the show 4 times in a row from different vantage views in the room. The final was from the balcony and I think that was my favorite. The exhibit is very interactive you get to sit inside a social distanced circle and admire the works of art moving across the room synchronized to classical music and reflected in mirrors located throughout the room. However if you do not want to you do not have to sit on the floor, they have chairs and benches available throughout the rooms. My tickets included a floor sitting cushion and a Van Gogh poster, but you can opt in for just general admission and purchase additional items at the end in a gift shop. The staff is sanitizing between the groups and limits room capacity. read more

I love art, I love music and I love adult beverages, so this exhibit hit all of the marks for me and it had Van Gogh! So I was winning all the way. I have visited many a great art museum during my heyday of domestic and international travels and before Yelping: from British Museum (London), Guggenheim Museum (New York), Musée d'Orsay and The Musée du Louvre (Paris), State Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) and of course my home town go to place, The Art Institute of Chicago. Those visits brought me such joy and happiness viewing my favorite pieces. But I am here to tell you that this experience was so wonderful that I was taken me to a whole new level of enjoyment viewing art. The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit was a feast for the eyes, ears and tongue. The exhibit employed over 50 digital projectors in this high-tech extravaganza that explores the work of Vincent Van Gogh. This exhibit was designed by the Italian creative team that worked on the "Atelier des Lumières" exhibitions in Paris. The exhibit was held at the Germania Club Building in Old Town, also called The Lighthouse ArtSpace Chicago. The exhibit occupied four rooms in the space. The actual running time of the exhibit was about 35-minutes in length in a continuous loop, which means you can watch it multiple times. There were quite a few identical projections displayed in each of the rooms throughout the show. with the main room covering 35-foot walls with animated versions of the Dutch painters work, accompanied by a glorious musical score that blends electronic and classical compositions. It was as if they looked at my Spotify playlist and picked some of my favorite pieces to listen to as my eyes took in the glory of Van Gogh flowing across the walls and floors: Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007 Prelude, Pictures At An Exhibition: The Great Gate of Kiev, Adagio for Strings, Handel Keyboard Suite in D Minor to name a few. This is not a movie, but animated still art, if that makes any sense. They are no using the term immersive lightly, you are immersed in Van Gogh for 30 plus minutes, more if you decide to repeat the experience. Art is literally flowing all around you and in every room, morphing into full visualizations of the final piece. I simply died when Starry Nights and Peace presented as it was just divine. The Lighthouse ArtSpace Chicago did a wonderful job in hosting this event. The rooms were spaced for social distancing, with large circles on the floor for folks to sit on the floor. There were also a few benches as well, not that many. After people moved from a bench, a staff member would come out and wipe it down with a Clorox wipe. There was a cafe as well as a bar serving adult drinks (yay!) and a gift shop on the way out with some lovely overpriced things. We got the Flex tickets, which worked out $65 a person. This option allowed us a +/- 2 hour arrival time, a rented Van Gogh cushion to sit on the floor (came in handy for the first viewing) and a free poster. I have been asked multiple times was the exhibit worth the price of the ticket and for me, The Queen and my BFF the answer is yes, a thousand times yes! That hour was an amazing experience and opened me up to a new way to experience art. Now I need to see Monet this way with Mahler, Pollack with Jazz, Dali with Monk, The Impressionist period with The Police (thinking outside the box). Will I stop going to a brick and mortar building to see art...nope. But would I repeat this experience again with a different artist and soundtrack...oh yes I would. If you can get tickets and go to this event, please do. If not, please look at my photos as I took a lot. Covid times- so additional procedures may/may not be in place depending on local rules I will say that spoiled by attending Borderless Labs exhibit in Tokyo, so my expectations were truly way too high. Highlights/Tips and info : * make sure to pre-purchase your tickets, and try to go for the lowest possible price one and don't waste your money on the premium on where you either get a cushion to keep or returns depending upon ticket and a poster * depending upon ticket type, entry is timed or flexible based . Flexible being more expensive * the space is broken down as follows: - balcony over looking one of the larger rooms that has a few tables to sit and and a time limit of 20 minutes - two larger rooms -two smaller side rooms The main rooms had a few bench type seating for 1-2 people and then circles on the floor to stand/sit to socially distance. Honestly the distancing was nice because you got a little breathing room. * the show was ~ 40 minute loop, where basically the art was project against the wall with some additional effects (not ground breaking ) and set to music . *The installation includes the Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), the Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and more *restrooms and the gift shop is up the stair past security * at the time of my visit, temperature checks and masks were required at the time of my visit * there was a small lot next to the building for pay, though Uber/lyft was also a quick way to get to the exhibit. Public transportation will require a longer period of time, plus more walking will be required due to bus stop location. *look for special events. Just the show on a loop, that's all. We watched the show twice, once from the balcony, which has a 20 minute time limit to give everyone a chance to experience the view. I surprised my bf on Valentine's Day with tickets to this Van Gogh exhibition. We had premiere tickets that came with cushions and Van Gogh posters. The whole experience is on a loop so you can catch up to where you started no matter when you arrive. There are multiple "rooms" and it's covid friendly with circular areas all over that shows how far you should be from others. The cushion came in handy bc most of the time, everyone picked a circle and sat and watched the experience. You can totally sit without cushions too. Location is convenient. Very busy place. Packed on a Saturday. There are cushions you can get for free (I think) to sit on in the exhibit. We were not told, so we didn't have them. A small glass of wine in a plastic cup is about $13. The top terrace view was my favorite, only place I could find with open seating. I won't recommend to anyone I know. The show was good and memorable. It was shorter than I thought it would be between 30-45 minutes. During the show there is a balcony . It is not very large and the staff monitor s it for social distancing. If you would like to go up there during the show , the staff will let you know if there is a safe spot. When you enter the show area you will enter a large room next to a smaller room and then another large room. There are socially distancing circles indicating where you may watch. We initially were in the smaller room and you could see into the two larger rooms but the ceiling in the smaller room is considerably lower. The show goes in a continuous loop. We watched it a second time in a larger room.where it I thought it was more impressive . I did not feel particularly immersed but it was very pretty. read more

This was a delightful light scape presentation in an old building at the edge of the Old Town neighborhood. I read many of the reviews before deciding and they mostly focused on the show being too expensive or not worth the price ... and then I decided to go and see it for myself. Is it expensive - Yes, but this is a big-city presentation; is it worth the price - Yes, but you only need purchase the lowest price ticket to enjoy the essence of this show. This show has been a huge success in Paris and Toronto and now comes to Chicago. Go see it. The show is an approximately 35 minute continuous light show of Van Gogh's art. The art has been copied, rendered into digital format, and is replayed on all the surfaces of three different rooms in huge size to focus on the subtleties. The art doesn't just sit on the room surfaces but moves in and out and around, all the while set to synchronized music. Within the art pieces you'll also notice movement of individual elements ... this is a result of the digital presentation making the work appear alive. Once you enter you can go into any of the rooms or the balcony and essentially take as long as you want. If you want to sit through two viewings of the loop, you can. You also can sit anywhere you can find room. We sat on the floor in places and especially in corners of rooms from which you can see the art from many different angles. Moving around is also helpful to achieve different angles of view. They have timed entry so you won't be in there with a huge crowd. Crowd size was very nice to allow good views. They also have a gift shop and a bar where you can buy a drink and sit and enjoy while you watch. So while this was definitely a passive kind of activity, you will be visually engaged to the max. This was a fun outing and we'd do it again in a minute. This is one of the benefits of living in or near a big city experience, so don't miss it. read more

This is a 35 minute looped show. We had flex admission tickets, which were definitely pricey for a 35 minute show. We went on a Thursday around 1pm and it was packed with people. There was no enforcement of any social distancing or mask wearing, which was quite disappointing. The photos/video posted were the only ones I could capture without photobombing and people running through the video. Due to so many people in attendance, full immersion was not possible. Upon entry they just let you in while the show is already in mid-progress, which is really bizarre and makes for an awkward experience. Why not limit it by groups and time and run a loop, then let the next group in? For a full immersion experience it would have been cool if the art was also projected on the ceiling, which was not the case. What I liked was that they forewarn you upon entry that the musical numbers accompanying the art projects are loud. They also provide ear plugs for those that want them. Made reservations for a work team outing...glad to have found parking in the condo building in the cul de sac, which was$18 for 2 hours . We walked in after checking in. 2 big flights of stairs considering all the seniors coming to see Van Gogh they should have made better arrangements. With delta variants rampant wish they had mandated masks for all indoor but that wasn't the case either. We went in and was quite packed with no chairs available . After paying $60/person I would expect to relax and view the paintings ... my team asked the doorman couple of times for a chair but didn't get one. I enjoyed the paintings and music which was very well executed. The cafe in the gift store is really cute with fancy seating . Overall a bit pricey for the experience !! read more

If you have a chance to go there you should absolutely GOgh. We got in literally for the last show on Sunday and it could not be more perfect - there were only a few other couples around and we had a whole gallery to ourselves to fully immerse into the experience! Music paired up so well with the transitions projected on the walls. Not your regular art experience for sure! Once we walked in, there were white walls around and bunch of mirrors. I was very skeptical, but as soon as good well known pictures started to come to life, my fascination could not be controlled. read more

My girlfriend and I came to Immersive Van Gogh on a Friday evening in May. There was a bit of a crowd walking in at the same time as us but the staff is well trained and helpful which helped the check in process go smoothly. The exhibit has 4 rooms, each varying in size, as well as a balcony where you can view Van Gogh's work come alive. The same video is projected in each room in a 35 minute loop and you can freely walk to watch the film. We had a great night out (very rare after the long winter) and enjoyed ourselves, but felt the exhibit was pricey for the same video played every half hour. I would recommend for a friend but if you miss it while it's in town then it's no huge loss. read more

This is a production company that's from Toronto and there using this space in the Germania building for this year. This is where the Van Gogh Exhibit is in and it's from 2/11-9/6 and probably with an extension. The exhibit is just over thirty minutes. They have a café and store. PS. This review is for the Yoga session option for this exhibit. My friend and I signed up for the 7am class. Since regular showings were sold out until July, we scored 2 tickets at $62 each for April 25th. Check in at 645 am and were seated inside the main room by 655. The class starts right at 7am and this is open to all levels. You will not be able to see the instructor from Corepower leading the class but will hear them giving instructions. So if yoga is new to you this might be a bit confusing. There is not much instruction given at all from entry and ticket check to when the class starts. There are free samples of lifeway keifer, a souvenir pin, sticker and smoothie recipe available. You can pick these up before or after the class on your way to the gift shop. We enjoyed the class and stayed to watch and experience the next showing. There are 4 galleries including the main one and balcony for viewing. We enjoyed the smaller gallery on the main floor for the immersion experience viewing during the next class. We found you could enjoy the music with the display and not hear the yoga class instruction. It was truly inspiring and beautiful! Gift shop has creative merchandising. Sold out of all things Irises unless you want a large wide poster. Cafe/bar not open during these sessions. But you're in luck because Pinipinco coffee is below and they have excellent coffee and Brazilian treats: empanadas and pan de quejo. Overall, the experience was magical for Van Gogh fans and for it's creativity and presentation I highly recommend it. Music was not too loud as others have commented and with the yoga session we also got in a workout. So I felt like it was worth the price of admission. The other plus of the class is that it's limited to 19 so even with the second class present there aren't more than 50 ppl in the whole place including the employees. read more

We went to a Sunday evening showing, which was perfect. Our tickets were purchased on Black Friday, buy one get one free, a great deal. We selected a 7:00 p.m. show. When you walk in the walls are all decorated with Van Gogh paintings . The previous series was showing, but we were allowed to walk in anytime. We went to the balcony first, which provided a great view of the entire show. There were high tables and chairs, but we opted to stand by the railing. The show was a beautiful opportunity to admire Van Gogh's painting. The sound and light exhibit allowed us to completely be immersed in his art. We moved down to the first floor to sit on a bench. The lights and prints are projected on all the walls and floor. A true visual experience. My favorites were Starry Night and the Sunflower series. The show is only 35 minutes, but for the half price deal it was totally worth it. It was a wonderful experience. read more
