I am…read morea fan of the Olympics and religious about watching the events on TV and when possible attending an event, so I had to at least see the venue. Parc Olympique was the site of the 1976 summer Olympics. These are the Olympic games that propelled Nadia Comaneci to stardom. The venue is known for it's tower which is set at 45 degrees and affords a view of the Montreal skyline. It is 165 meters high. Presently it is closed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Note that when admission is possible it is closed on Mondays. The cost to climb the tower was $15 and if you add the cost of stadium parking $20 people hesitate to visit. Days when traffic is light you will be able to find street parking close by. Besides climbing the tower you can see the the Olympic size swimming pool which is still used by the Olympic diving and swimming team.. The 5 five rings of the Olympics are still up including the medal stand. The Biodome which replicates the four ecosystems found in the United States requires a separate admission cost. The Planetarium is adjacent to dome is worth seeing. Across the street, Maisonneuve Park is home to the Montreal Botanical Garden and Insectarium. Saputo soccer Stadium can be found here as well. The bottom line is that I would not recommend Parc Olympique for everyone but it was interesting to see for me since it is only a 10 minute drive from downtown Montreal and is a unique dome.

This review is for the event on Friday, June 14, 2013…read more This was an absolutely amazing event -- KUDOS to the city of Montreal! You cannot possibly get something this good for free. Yes, admission is free! The venue was huge, and by my estimate it's probably at least 2 city blocks by 2 city blocks. All the roads in the area were closed to traffic so it's safe to walk around. If you drive here, expect massive traffic jam. If you can, take the metro and exit Place Des Arts and you're about a 5-minute walk to the event. Street parking lots cost $10 - 15. You can also park in the garage under the Desjardins Mall. If I counted correctly, there were at least 6 stages, from hard rock to soft rock to pop and even a cappella. The variety of music was amazing, although most of them were in French (this is Montreal!) The planning was good as many of the performances were timed so that they didn't conflict with each other. However, at most times, there would be more than one performance going on. There were plenty of vendors selling everything from food and snacks to beer and wine and specialty drinks. There were also at least a dozen or so restaurants that had patio seating near where all the actions were. However, expect long waits at most of the restaurants. I was amazed by how safe it felt over there. There was minimal security presence and people were behaving. There were plenty of families with small children and they were all having a great time. The atmosphere was vibrant and it was a huge party. Despite the partying going in, we didn't see any rowdiness or overly drunk people. Maybe because this is Canada (you may not agree but Canadians are very nice people). We had one of the best times in our lives in this spectacular outdoor music festival. And you can't beat the price -- free! Next year the event will be on June 13, 2014 so mark your calendar.

The arena itself isn't particularly well maintained. There is very limited seating on 2 corners of the ice but you wouldn't want to sit in there because A) the arena isn't insulated, and B) the plexi glass or whatever is so damaged over the years (unchanged) that you can't really see much of what's going on. This arena is quite overpriced for the quality offered, surely only survives due to it's somewhat convenient location.

They put 18 fun holes in a tight space and it was nice to have a self coat check so we didn't need to carry our coats around. If you are coming from a bright day, your eyes will need time to adjust. They had snacks, slushies and arcade games as well but we didn't participate in those. The teens had fun, & we had a nice break from touring the city. Oh and did I say WE WON?!?

One series is missing from that 24-10 record: the 1919 Finals. Back then, the Stanley Cup Finals were a best-of-five series. The Canadiens and the Seattle Metropolitans played five games that ended in a 2-2-1 tie. Game 6 was scheduled to determine the champion, but it was canceled due to the 1918 Spanish flu. Sound familiar? Unlike 2020, when most athletes were spared from serious illness due to COVID-19, most of the Canadiens players and the Canadiens manager were hospitalized with the flu. Two players ended up dying because of it. The Canadiens absolutely dominated in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. They racked up a staggering 15 titles in those three decades alone. The Canadiens' last championship occurred in 1993. It was a 4-1 series win over a Los Angeles Kings team that featured Wayne Gretzky and other stars like Jari Kurri and Luc Robitaille (Robitaille has been president of the Kings since 2017). In '93, Montreal was led by goalie Patrick Roy. He won his third Conn Smythe Trophy (playoffs MVP) that year. To date, "Saint Patrick" is the only player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy three times. He also won it in 1986 (Montreal) and 2001 (Colorado Avalanche). Needless to say, Roy is in the Hockey Hall of Fame along with several other Canadien greats. The Canadiens made it back to the Stanley Cup Finals last year (2021) for the first time since 1993. Considering the prestigious history of this franchise, that's a very long time: 23 years. It also marked the first time since 2011 that a Canadian team made it to the Finals. Like the 1919 Finals, the 2021 Finals were affected by a pandemic, but fortunately not canceled. Due to unique circumstances caused by COVID, the 2021 Finals featured *two* teams from the Eastern Conference, the Canadiens against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately for Montreal fans, the Canadiens lost the series, 4-1. Montreal still qualifies for the playoffs more often than not. Even since the '93 Stanley Cup win that saw two ownership changes and two rare periods of consecutive seasons without playoff appearances (three seasons from 1998 to 2001 and two seasons from 2017 to 2019), the Canadiens have still appeared in the playoffs 17 times. Those 17 times are part of an NHL-record 88 playoff appearances through the 2021 playoffs. This is one of the all-time best teams in hockey. Go Habs Go.

A bar, a place to buy T-shirts and just hang with your friends, Usine C is a very civilized, CLEAN and amazing venue to take in a show . The acoustics are great, the crowd and staff are really chill and I love the fact that it's an old, industrial factory which still maintains it's old architectural features while having a new lease on life as an artistic venue.

There is one large room for the bands to play in, equipped with lighting and techies at the back. There is a smaller lounge on the other side of the building, down a spiral staircase as well. For me, this was a good spot to sit down and give those heels a rest, and still pound back the drinks so the feet hurt less. Usine C also has an outdoor patio for the smokers, the organizers of Kinetik had a hot dog and hamburger stand set up out here so that we wouldn't starve since the festival started at 4pm and went until 3am. Too bad they ran out of food each night! It was ok though, we had in/out privileges. Usine C had really cool lights in the main hallway that were made from broken glass bottles, making them look like glass chandeliers, which was very beautiful. There was an upstairs area as well, which, for the festival, had clothing vendors, artists, and this was also where the bathrooms were hiding. Now my rating could be biased, since we have pretty much NO venues like this in Vancouver, so having a venue like Usine C that you can rent out for live shows, that has two rooms, and a place where you can throw in your own vendors is pretty fucking amazing.

There are performances in Place Pasteur near the UQAM as well. Some suburban areas like Verdun also have free outdoor performances. The acrobats are very good and very well trained. There are also some paid performances in theaters around the city. A great way to see circus performance for days !
