The Canadiens de Montreal or the Montreal Canadiens have, by far, the most Stanley Cup Finals wins and appearances in NHL history. At the time of writing this review, the club has 24 championships and 35 appearances. Also impressive is the team's 24-10 Finals record (.706). Incredible. One series is missing from that 24-10 record: the 1919 Finals. Back then, the Stanley Cup Finals were a best-of-five series. The Canadiens and the Seattle Metropolitans played five games that ended in a 2-2-1 tie. Game 6 was scheduled to determine the champion, but it was canceled due to the 1918 Spanish flu. Sound familiar? Unlike 2020, when most athletes were spared from serious illness due to COVID-19, most of the Canadiens players and the Canadiens manager were hospitalized with the flu. Two players ended up dying because of it. The Canadiens absolutely dominated in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. They racked up a staggering 15 titles in those three decades alone. The Canadiens' last championship occurred in 1993. It was a 4-1 series win over a Los Angeles Kings team that featured Wayne Gretzky and other stars like Jari Kurri and Luc Robitaille (Robitaille has been president of the Kings since 2017). In '93, Montreal was led by goalie Patrick Roy. He won his third Conn Smythe Trophy (playoffs MVP) that year. To date, "Saint Patrick" is the only player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy three times. He also won it in 1986 (Montreal) and 2001 (Colorado Avalanche). Needless to say, Roy is in the Hockey Hall of Fame along with several other Canadien greats. The Canadiens made it back to the Stanley Cup Finals last year (2021) for the first time since 1993. Considering the prestigious history of this franchise, that's a very long time: 23 years. It also marked the first time since 2011 that a Canadian team made it to the Finals. Like the 1919 Finals, the 2021 Finals were affected by a pandemic, but fortunately not canceled. Due to unique circumstances caused by COVID, the 2021 Finals featured *two* teams from the Eastern Conference, the Canadiens against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately for Montreal fans, the Canadiens lost the series, 4-1. Montreal still qualifies for the playoffs more often than not. Even since the '93 Stanley Cup win that saw two ownership changes and two rare periods of consecutive seasons without playoff appearances (three seasons from 1998 to 2001 and two seasons from 2017 to 2019), the Canadiens have still appeared in the playoffs 17 times. Those 17 times are part of an NHL-record 88 playoff appearances through the 2021 playoffs. This is one of the all-time best teams in hockey. Go Habs Go. read more

This is just to explain the picture on my profile. I have been a Montreal Canadiens hockey fan forever and will always be a fan. 24 Lord Stanley's Cup...more then any other team. Great players that if listed would fill this page. And if you know, hockey fans are like no others... i can't say i thought the habs had it in the bag this year. i was, along with everyone else, surprised to see the habs in the playoffs after a mediocre season, astonished to see them beat the caps, and HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE with them for beating the penguins. the habs are my #2 team, after my hometown san jose sharks, but it made me very proud to see them go so far for the first time in my adult life. also: i learned more french this last hockey season than i did in an entire semester of college-level french. thank you, NHL Centre Ice, blogosphere, and twitter! allez le bleu blanc et rouge! read more

So much History and pride for the city of Montreal! Come see the Canadiens for one of their special presentations "when they retire a players number" or celebrate something within the team. No other team in the NHL does a better job as no other team in the NHL has as winning of a history as the Canadiens. Sure it's been 20 years since the last Stanley Cup but no one else in the NHL has won more than the Habs! This review is for the Habs store. We recently traveled to Montreal and stayed outside the city to avoid the traffic. We decided to venture into the city for ONE purpose, to visit the Habs store in the Bell Center. After more than an hour of buses, Metro trains, walking and steps we made our way in. Our original purpose for the visit was to purchase multiple shirts (5) for both ourselves and for family who are fans. We were very sad to find the majority of the clothing goes only to an XL. Sadly Habs fans come in all sizes, not just S-XL. We thought visiting the store itself would offer more variety, we were very wrong. Instead we left with two key chains......whoopie. read more
