I've trained in Kickboxing and Muay Thai off and on for almost 10 years and I have never seen a Coach love what they do as much as Erin! Anyone can teach something, but not just anyone can COACH. A coach has to LOVE the sport, and have an obsession with studying the sport... competing experience is always a plus too... Erin simply has it all. You can literally feel his love for the sport, and his students , radiate as he coaches. Jen and Sam are some more great people you will see here and are truly a foundation of the gym as well. You will immediately feel at home, Jen and Sam have such a Papa and Mama Bear spirit. As if the coaching wasn't already enough, you couldn't meet better gym managers/owners than Jen and Sam. I'm a Personal Trainer, so I have been through dozens and dozens of gyms ....and even though this is a fighting gym, there is absolutely no ego and no egos tolerated and these two make sure to keep it that way! Not to be a corn-dog but I am truly grateful I have found this gym! I could go on and on!

I've been coming for a year and the gym is always clean with positive energy from competitors, children and casual participants alike. I have trained at numerous academies in my life and I can say confidently that Kru Rad and the growing coaching staff are focused on skill development as well as that community vibe that keeps me coming back. For all of my advancement tests, I have fallen outside the scheduled testing period. There has never been an issue with scheduling a private test. It has allowed me to relax about preparation, going at my pace to ensure I am developing my skills. This community extends beyond the four walls of the gym. Frequent guest instructors from around the area and beyond come in to teach great seminars. If you're looking to start out, are returning from years away, or are looking for a competitive gym to get you ready for fights, you can't do better than RAD Muay Thai and BJJ.

I'm also on…read morethe fence on writing this review because I actually enjoy the smallish class sizes, but I also want this place to succeed. This place checkmarks all the boxes that I'm looking for when joining a striking gym: 1. Experienced coach(es) that are current or former amateur/professional fighters. 2. A good mix of different skill levels from students. 3. Facilities are that well-kept. 4. Encouraged sparring. Everyone gets a killer cardio workout and learns techniques that are tailored for Muay Thai or real-life self-defense (there's a reason why Muay Thai is considered one of the best bases for MMA striking). The best part of this gym is truly in the diverse experience level of students. I've trained for a while, but my cardio and clinch work are abysmal, and I've never seen anything but smiles and encouragement from everyone. There is no "UFC Bro" culture here -- everyone is disarmingly welcome and supportive. There's no ego either. People show up and work hard with their fellow teammates and there's a real sense of community here. I'd strongly recommend giving it a shot if you're interested in the sport of Muay Thai on a competitive level, just trying to lose pounds and get fit, or even just learning self-defense for those real world situations.

As someone who asked for leniency in a time of struggle, I'd like share my upsetting experience. While attending this gym, I was struggling through abuse from men. I was also struggling to make ends meet, and I just wanted a place to put my head down and work. I was not left alone. Multiple fighters at this gym mocked and made fun of me in front of other members at this gym. I heavily avoided interaction. While sitting in my car on the side of the freeway, I texted and asked; "Could I possibly pause billing and attending for a two week period and then resume?" The response from the gym owner was; "Our system doesn't hold for less than a month." Luckily, God provided and my ex boyfriend offered to pay $200 for me to keep training. (That's the monthly rate.) I will provide a screenshot of this conversation. I asked in person to a kind instructor, and he told me that sounded very reasonable. There are a couple people at this gym that are genuine. After leaving a comment on a recent instagram post relating to this GuardianGym, I was contacted by the owner. (This post was requesting donations for those struggling financially.) She attempted to apologize, and in the same breath she asked for the deletion of my comment. Also while apologizing, she was attempting to blame and deflect the responsibility that she denied my request for a freeze. She then deleted my comment herself. This inspired me to share my experience. I want to add that in the screenshot she asked for me to add my card on file. I added my card. As seen, she later reached out to me to say "my card" was declining. She was instead attempting to charge my ex boyfriend's card, as mine ended in 3899. When opportunity to be rude presented itself, it was taken. I also experienced rude interactions with her daughter who is the 'pretty blonde girl' who works the front desk referenced in an honest review below.

The instructors are all great, so it really just depends on your schedule. From day 1, coaches and students alike have been super welcoming, highly encouraging, and fun to get to know. It is a great community feel, and I wish I had more time for more classes. First class is free to checkout, and you'll need to buy wraps for $10 or bring your own. Instructors: Starting with Coach Jason, whose workouts against the bag, and also box & lift, introduced me to the basics of boxing and also sweating intensely. Early on, Jason took me through some 1-on-1 classes which were really worth it, and I feel definitely started me off right. His knowledge of other styles in the fighting arts, and his explanations for the 'how', 'what', and 'why' in boxing also helped me get away from some old TKD habits. Jason definitely wins the crack of dawn award, as well as the toughest ab workout award. Another great feature of Jason's classes is his brief and inspiring motivational speeches. I take Box & Lift classes with Coach Stacy whenever I can. The boxing workouts are still intense but slightly shorter to make time for the lifting part. Stacy's training background means she has a really deep knowledge in the mechanics of proper strength training. Her explanations have helped me a lot in working on proper form even when exhausted, and I feel I've definitely gotten stronger and have better form thanks to Stacy. I'm also a big fan of Coach EZ's Sunday morning boxing class. He really brings the energy and it totally fires up the entire class. I appreciate his technical pointers, and he was also really engaging and helpful when I brought my son a few times. Alex and Nick are great instructors too but I've just had less classes with them based on schedule. The main thing is that you just cannot beat everyone's passion and the quality of the workouts. My best decision in 2024 = Highly recommend.
