Then my children and work got in the way and my tap shoes spent a decade collecting dust in my closet. Months ago one of my Pilates instructor was raving about her adult tap class at SNAP and a fellow tap lover and I decided to check it out. They have 2 classes during the week - Fridays at 1230pm and Tuesdays at 715pm. Both aren't ideal with my work and carpool schedule, but I was able to make it to the class twice. We had 2 different instructors and both were great. There were a handful of other adults in the class who were clearly regulars, but very welcoming to use newbies. We warmed up and learned a routine (even broke out the jazz hands). While I can't quite move my feet like i used to, I did my best to keep up. To be honest the hard part was remembering all the steps. My memory isn't quite what it used to be! They do always do the same routine 2 weeks in a row so if you can swing 2 weeks in a row you should have no issues nailing a routine. Drop in classes are only $18 possibly making this the most affordable workout in the north shore. And based on my Apple health app I certainly got my steps in that day. I keep meaning to go back and even bought brand new tap shoes. The scheduling times are tough, especially during the school year, but I hope to make it back soon!

It may not be as big as bigger cities (LA, NY) but I'm glad they had one. Here was my experience here. AMBIANCE: It's in more of a suburban area of Chicago. Relatively close (15 minutes) away from the airport and from downtown. The place itself is on the 2nd floor of a building. It seems like a pretty historic brick building with a spacious layout. The layout is basically one big floor to dance on with ceiling lights and string lights to bright up the place. The class consisted of a lot of talented 40+ which was cool as they had a lot of knowledge to share. The size is great for group practices and socials. Parking - Pretty much just street parking. Customer Service - Awesome! My instructor was Dawn Lara and she was great! Knowledgeable and friendly. I felt pretty welcomed in this place. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. I had a great experience here! The instructors were awesome and my classmates were pretty fun. One of the main things for me was always feeling will people be condescending and whatnot, but the vibes were pretty welcoming here. This was a good start to learning more about the dance community and scene here in Chicago, I just wish I stayed longer to learn more! Advice: * Check out their schedule online and on social media for events.

I have found Glenwood Dance Studio to be a much needed component in not only the Far Northside…read moreChicago area, but in the arts community in general. Started by a group of dance students with no extensive professional experience, GDS has managed to cultivate and grow pretty much exactly what a good dance studio should be: a welcoming space with a variety of classes taught by capable and professional instructors. GDS is an adults-only studio which can be nice for students who are in a different headspace than their younger contemporaries. This also means that class times are purposefully created to be accommodating to most's usual 9-5 weekday schedule. There's also plenty to do on the weekends, so you have the option to dance every day if you want to. The bulk of the students tend to be beginners and non-professionals so this can help provide those who have no professional/performative aspirations a less-stressful environment in which to learn. Shy and new dancers don't worry - you're not the only one. However, despite this, GDS is also very welcoming and able to accommodate dance professionals and has had students from various Chicago-land companies come through. The studio is quite small - fairly wide though only roughly 3-4 panels deep, but for the most part (of course depending on enrollment) the teachers do their best to keep it a safe and effective learning experience - even for long-limbed dancers over 6'! I've attended classes at GDS for about seven years now and though I of course take classes elsewhere every now and then, I am happy to call it my dance home.

Salsa, Cha Cha, and Foxtrot...Oh My!…read more You...yes you, sitting there reading this review wondering if you should take dance lessons at Arthur Murray Glenview. Well, you've taken the first step in the right direction by doing your research and learning more about the studio. Why dance? Why not! Wedding... Looking confident on the dance floor... Exercise...Next Mirror Ball Champion on Dancing with the Stars (well, that's my reason)... The fun, friendly, and talented staff at Arthur Murray Glenview will help you accomplish all your dancing needs. When you come to the studio, you will be asked what you expect to accomplish from dancing. Based on that information, you will be paired with an instructor who will make sure you achieve everything and more. In addition to one-on-one private lessons with your instructor, there are group lessons and practice parties. Arthur Murray Glenview provides an amazing learning environment for the beginning student to the advanced. And this is a direct result of the staff. While you will have most of your lessons with one instructor, you will have the opportunity to work with other instructors during group lessons. Additionally, the more seasoned students will be more than happy to show you a new move at a practice party. Who am I? I began taking lessons at Arthur Murray Glenview in January 2010--thanks to a gift certificate from my (I think she finally got tired of me talking about taking lessons ad nauseam). While I have 17+ years of tap and jazz, I had absolutely no ballroom experience. Lead and follow? Ha! Not this girl! However, my very skilled and very patient instructor Steve somehow got me to learn this very important aspect of the dance in no time. In May 2010, I did a Tango routine at the Medal Ball...and yes, I let Steve lead! I will be upfront and tell you that what you get from dance lessons is what you put into it. But, once you step in the studio, you won't want to leave. If I could, I'd be at the studio every single day. Take advantage of the group lessons and practice parties--the fun in these classes is infectious! So, if you are still saying the following: I have two left feet... I don't have a partner... I have no rhythm... There's no way I can learn to dance... Enough with the excuses! Go to Arthur Murray Glenview!

Yes, they are a bit pricey but you will know how to move and groove by the end of your experience with them. There is a big room in the front with wall to wall windows to see on anyone driving on waukegan. Great feature because any time of day or night you can see people dancing and they pretty much entice you to walk in and just DANCE! The room in the back is a bit more private but both are turly great spaces that make you move across a wooden floor like dancing angels! I would definitely reccomend this to a friend, family member and anyone on the street!! :)

We had our first appointment with Shirley a few months ahead of our wedding. We had picked out "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers as our first dance song and wanted to have an elegant, classy dance. Shirley listened very carefully to our goals from the dance and taught us a very nice dance with classic moves, but also incorporated a few moves that that "felt right" to us as couple :). We did three 1-hour classes and one shorter "tune-up" class two weeks before the wedding. My husband had no experience with dancing, so I was nervous at first on how this would go. Shirley is a GREAT teacher and worked with us so well on the steps, coordination and timing. She was always patient and helpful. In the end, we were very comfortable performing the dance at our wedding. We heard compliments from everyone, including the venue management who watches first dances basically every weekend, and of course our guests. They couldn't believe that we only took a few dance lessons! We highly recommend Shirley to any couple looking for excellent instruction and someone who truly cares what you want as a couple and ensures both of you are comfortable with all of the steps!

Called the box office and they were of no help in buying tickets for will call. We saw One Night in Memphis on Nov. 23. The performers were good, dedicated to playing their artists. The bad part of the theater? The sound - they cranked up the instruments and we could barely hear the performers sing. I felt bad for the performers trying to be heard over the drums and electric bass. Another downside was the lack of the ushers and staff with seating. It didn't seem to matter much where people sat as long as no one complains. Not sure this is good for honest people who pay for decent seats. When we got to our seats there was a couple already sitting in our seats. They claimed that the box office sent them to our seats because they got kicked out of their balcony seats. Without having an usher nearby, we had to take care of it ourselves. They begrudgingly moved to the next set of free seats in the box grumbling about how they should have stayed in their seats. The people with tickets to their relocated seats showed up and the balcony couple again claimed they were placed there by the box office because they were told to leave their balcony seats. They were finally moved by an usher. I noticed them sitting across the theater in the empty box seats, not balcony. I guess no one checks tickets. They must be pros knowing not to pay $75+ a ticket, but to pay a lot less for balcony and sit in premium seats because no one will check. Other than this irritating situation, the show was okay. Parking was easy and free which was nice. Overall, I think we'd be back only if there was a performer we must see, but we will not be paying for main or box seating prices. It's a small theater.
