It should be pretty…read moregood, though; it's on a patch of land by the parking lot to the West Sixth Brewing building. I missed this the first drive around the area looking for murals, so I'm glad I swung by a second time. This adorable patch of land was created as a free garden by The Bread Box, an art gallery 100 or so feet away. It's not a community garden in the usual sense of that term, hence my calling it a free garden: The signs welcome folks to take whatever they wish that is ripe. When I was there not much was ready for harvest, but what was planted included basil, cilantro, dill, squash, and tomato. The dill was ready, actually; some of it was flowering and so deliciously fragrant. The smell of flowering dill always makes me think of my grandpa, because he would use it in his dill pickles and that's what made them so delicious (to this day I can't eat any other dill pickles than what he taught me to make because they aren't as piquant because he used a lot). It made me want to start canning some dill pickles. This is a really sweet addition to the neighborhood and a lovely gift. I really wish free gardens and edible plants for municipal landscaping would take off; it's such a great way for neighbors to care for one another.

So this was cool to see it on the outside of the barbershop that seems to be pretty popular but this was a very pretty mural and very lifelike as well

Of all of the murals in Lexington, this one was the most controversial. It's located on the outside…read moreof one of the outside walls of the an old warehouse in the distillery district. That "old" warehouse is now home of several the James Pepper Distillery District businesses. Specifically the building that is the home of Fusion Brewery and Battle Axes. When it was first painted, back in 2015 there were only two businesses open in the entire district. And as cool as the area is now, I know that this bad ass mural was part of that growth, for the good. So why was it so controversial? You know those kind of people who like to complain about everything, yeah those are who made it controversial. Although it's a self portrait of sorts, in the mural, he's spelling "Mo" with his hands. NOT a gang sign. I'm serious, people were saying that it was going to cause gang related behavior, and encourage graffiti. Now, I wonder what all those naysayers say about it after how far the district has come along in just a few short years. It's literally one of the most booming areas in Lexington. I met the owner on FB and he and I struck up a friendship. This guy is a collector but also sales bottles as well and is always willing to work a deal with you. He is very fair. His store is clean. He is someone you can trust and so forth. This store is in the new stockyards in Lexington that burned a couple of years ago. I suggest you check them out. He also has a lot of Kentucky stuff for sale.

Cork and Barrel is a bourbon store in the Lexington Bluegrass Airport. I am not a bourbon drinker…read morebut I am a fan of my home state of Kentucky so I checked it out. It's a small store but it's packed with some pretty cool stuff. I was impressed that none of the bottles, and there were many, or shelves had any dust. A very clean store! Primarily you will find Kentucky bourbon. Thomas was very helpful and friendly. I told him I wasn't a bourbon fan but I wanted to try something different. He pointed me to the Wild Turkey honey flavor, $15.99. I put it on the rocks and added a little lemon juice and it was pretty tasty. I also purchased the Preachers Truffles, four for $10. Yes, expensive, but well worth the money! I've already checked online to see how I can order more LOL. These truffles were made from the bourbon that seeps into the barrel while aging. They extract the bourbon and use it to make these absolutely divine chocolate delights. You can also find wine openers and bottle stoppers. If you are looking for KY items, there were coasters and books. Stop by and I bet you will find a treasure to take home.

I did buy a bottle of Lexington Bourbon to get things started! Since I've collected all eight horse stoppers, upon my departure, I bought the Blantons horseshoe glorifier & bottle for the middle of the ingredients that it takes to make bourbon. I also found a super cute red gem wine purse holder for the table or bar & some cute jockey/horse wine charms. Love this airport & store! They also have a bourbon tasting at there other location.
