Tried this place out last night while staying in Canmore for a few nights and really enjoyed it! Vaani was amazing! She was so sweet and accommodating. We felt bad because it was very busy and she was doing it all herself. We were quite impressed with how she juggled everything. Food was really tasty. I got the Aloo Gobi and we also ordered basmati rice, bread, veggie samosas, and chicken tikka masala. Great flavor, beware that medium spice is pretty spicy even for a spice lover like me! If I could give any recommendation it would be for the ambiance (I'm not going to take a star away though). The song was on a loop and almost put us in a trance of relaxation lol Not necessarily a bad thing but maybe switching it up could be nice throughout the meal. Also the location itself looks a bit dated, great for the homey feel but you can see it needs a bit of a facelift (water damage on ceiling, tears in chairs, etc). I also think if Vaani or Raj had help up front to keep up with cleaning it would feel more welcoming. We asked for the table to be cleaned again as it had leftover food/spills when we sat down. Casual Indian spot when you REALLY need some Indian food after a long day of hiking. Especially for if you're Indian and need a break from eating American food hahha. Service can be a bit slow but that's anywhere. Decor is classic casual Indian. Our server was AWESOME and she was very attentive! I believe our server was khushi. Portions were big. We got the: Manchow soup - 9/10 super spicy but great if you are sick. VERY flavorful! Amritsari fish tikka - 9/10 very well cooked and well seasoned Shahi paneer - 6.5/10 good in a pinch and def will hit the spot if you're missing Indian food. I just wish it was more spicy and flavorful. Also a bit too sour for me. Dal makhani - 6.5/10 again wished it was spicier but still was great Schecewan cauliflower - 6/10 I just wasn't a fan of the one dimensional flavor but again i was def appreciative given how remote we are! The restaurant closes at 10:30 and even though we arrived near closing the staff was very accommodating and seated us after a short wait. Vani our server was very polite and quick with the service. The food was DELICIOUS! The chicken Biryani was very fragrant and well seasoned. The Paneer Masala and Tadka Dal was very tasty as well. Would highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

We went on a day when it was pretty busy and they were short staffed. It took a while for the food to arrive. We were also disappointed to find that the curries were swimming in oil. Later the owner asked us how we found the food. When we pointed this out to him he was very defensive and said they would not change it! We went to this place for our first meal of the day which was around 5 PM. The place was empty at that time. We tried the chicken Rajasthani, masala fish curry, paneer naan, and tandoori roti. Loved the taste of food. The Fish curry was medium spicy with good layers of flavors. Paneer naan was super soft and I was simply overjoyed by eating it. This is by far the worst food my friend and I have encountered on our trip to Banff / Canmore / Calgary. The waiter came out after we ordered chicken pakora and told us that they have very bad reviews and to get the fish instead. The fish was crispy and flavorful, however the battered breading was very thick. It was served with raw onions, tandoori would have been better. Next, we ordered chicken vindaloo, however we got tomato vindaloo. It was the only flavor you could taste in the curry. The chicken pieces were tender and well cooked. Further, the meal took over an hour and there was only one other party in the restaurant. We asked for our check and didn't receive it for over 15 minutes. Our water was empty and not refilled for 10+ mins after asking (might I add, he even looked at the empty water pitcher several prior interactions, and decided to not fill it). Also they charge for rice with the curry which perhaps is the norm, however in experience, rice is not charged for. Do not go here and save your money, time, and keep your irritation and annoyance levels low! read more

Ambiance was terrible. Service was pathetic and downright rude. Quantity of food was not enough for the money charged. There was scraps of food all over the floor and usually there are rodents in that kind of environment. The owner, manager who goes by 'Raj' was downright rude and obnoxious. The food took forever to come. Wish we had just left and gone to some other place. The place was empty but he refused to have customers seated and kept saying, 'wait wait, you will be seated'. Great little place for some decent Indian food. Went with a local who said it was average, if you happen to be from the region. But I definitely liked it enough to go again if given the opportunity! Came here starving right after a long flight and it was the best choice we made. Everyone in our group of 6 loved the dishes -- family style shared everything. Chicken tikka masala and saag paneer classics were 100% on point and freshly made to order. We also got the garlic naan and coconut naans which were so crunchy and soft. Great place for an amazing Indian meal in Canmore. We stopped here while going to Lake Louise. It's very close to the main highway so you don't waste much time on the detour. While they do have an a la carte menu but we went for the buffet. The buffet had three different types of salads, Raita, Samosa, Spring Rolls, Rice, Dal Tadka, two vegetarian Sabzi, one non-veg Sabzi, and Gulab Jamun. Naan and Roti were a part of the buffet but had to be asked. We loved the salads. The samosa was great as well, though the filling could have been more. Spring Rolls were oily - didn't really like it. Rest everything was amazing, especially the Dal Tadka. One interesting thing we found was that they don't provide bowls for Dal. So, we're supposed to take the Dal in the plate itself (having said that, Dal is thick enough to be taken in a plate). When we asked why, the gentleman attending us explained that it was to reduce the wastage of food. A lot of people will take a full bowl and then couldn't finish it and then left it to waste. The service (for the rotis, naan etc) was very good. The gentleman attending us was very friendly and helpful. There is a shared parking lot of the plaza of which the restaurant is part of. So, that shouldn't be a problem. Overall, the location is very convenient if you want to stop for a great meal and don't want to waste much time in the detour. read more

Glad we found this place! No waiting and really fast prep time. Just the right amount of spiciness and the flavors were as good as any Indian food I've ever tried anywhere. Staff were particularly kind and had great customer service. The only thing that made me wonder about the "authentic" claim is the menu had beef on it. I've never seen beef on an Indian menu before. Ghar ki yaad aa gayi. (Reminded me of home) My wife and I stopped here for dinner last evening on a complete whim; we were staying in Canmore for a day and decided to try out the new Indian place. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a friendly host; the music was DDLJ instrumental with the backdrop of the snow covered mountains which automatically made us smile. We ordered the Tandoori Chicken and the Palak Paneer. The host gave us fail warning that it would take 20 minutes since kebabs are made fresh to order. We decided to go for them anyway; that was a good decision. The Tandoori Chicken was absolutely delicious. It was so tender and juicy, perfectly marinated with masala penetrating all the way in and just superbly cooked in a tandoor with the right smoky taste and slightly crisp charred bits on the surface. I've been living in North America for many years now and this was definitely my favorite Tandoori Chicken till date. The one thing I would nit pick over is it would do well with a dash of lime and a sprinkle of chaat masala right before serving it. That would be perfection. The Palak Paneer was really good. The curry was a tad heavy on the khade masale (whole spices) and lost a little of the smooth subtle flavors as a result but you could barely notice because it was really delicious. The Paneer itself was very fresh and good quality and also tasted nice unlike many restaurants that just throw it in right as the end. The Tandoori Roti and the Naan were both flawless; perfect crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The owner Raj is extremely friendly. He spent s few minutes talking to every guest and made us feel very warm and welcomed as we chatted a little about the food and his story. Whether you are a local or traveling through Canmore, whether you are desi and like is spicy or have a more subtle palate but want to try some bold flavors, I would very strongly urge you to stop by here and give Raj and his food a shot. You will leave very happy and satisfied. p.s. I usually click pictures of the food but I honestly forgot about it and just gobbled it all down as soon as it came out.
