I had a few free hours to myself during a recent trip to Arcata so I searched for a beach near me…read more Mauren Beach was less than a 10 minute drive from my rental house, so I set off. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to find, how short the walk is from my parking space and how clean the beach is. There were a few people along the beach as well as a few surfers in the water. Polite dogs and their walkers would stroll by on occasion. I thoroughly enjoyed lounging in my chair and reading while the sound of the waves calmed my soul. I look forward to returning on my next visit to the area.

First of all, the scencery is absolutely stunning. It's pretty easy to drive through the park and pop out at scenic spots for a view of the ocean (such as Wedding Rock, so named as a beautiful spot for a wedding). There's also wonderful hiking, including the Rim Trail and the path down to Agate Beach. Also... beachcombing camping learning about the history of the area at the Visitor Center biking nature photography and much more! There is an entrance fee; however, if you avail yourself of the California State Park Library Pass, it's free! Either way, definitely worth a vist.

It is nothing like the beaches in SoCal which is everything that I wanted to experience. I enjoyed how cool the weather was and the smells of the clean, crisp air. It was just under $10 to visit for the day and we spent about an hour solely taking in the views. Overall, highly recommend if you are in this neck of the woods.

People ride horses, you can have fires, cool stuff, but it's windy. Like it can get really windy, no where to really chill and hide from the wind. However, if you want to find sand dollars that aren't broken, this beach is the place.

It was drizzling, but, I've been here a few times before on sunny days. NorCal beaches don't get SoCal scale beach crowds so parking is a breeze. No one really sets up for the day with their cooler either, even on the hottest of days here. It's calm and peaceful. There are small hidden tide pools nearby too. They're hard to find, but, we've located them twice now, so it can't be that hard.

Baker beach was a nice place to visit. It does have a bit of a trek down to the beach with a…read moreslightly steep path that leads down to steps and a makeshift ladder that you have to use to climb down to the beach. I recommend backpacks so you can keep your hands free. You will see many different people here from those taking advantage of the clothing optional experience or those taking a much needed smoke break with their bong (as it is Humboldt after all) or those attempting body boarding. You can also observe tide pools with beautiful sea creatures in them. Overall it is a nice place to come and relax just take your time on the trek back up to the mini parking lot.

Roadside parking at both the south and north trail heads - you have about a 5-10 minute leisurely stroll through the dunes out to the beach and ocean. This north humboldt bay beach has some serious waves and some of the roughest water around. Great for viewing and walking, riding horses, etc. but it does not look like a great place to swim or surf. Very aggressive waters here. You can access this beach from either traveling to the north end of Clam beach drive or taking the 725 exit off the highway - the beach is located immediately to the west as you exit - just circle back towards to ocean (west) and parking is right there on the corner - this is the entrance to the north trail head. A half a mile or so down the road is the south trail head entrance and road side parking. There are literally miles upon miles of trails - some marked others not, an amazing view of the north Humboldt bay, Camel rock and Trinidad are all had from this vantage point. A nice state beach, very often overlooked and driven right past. Worth the effort to pull off and explore - I often find I am the only one out there. Its peaceful, serene and very much back to nature on this beach. Awesome views of the rugged north coast . Little River State Beach - open basically from sunrise to sunset - is a day use beach. Gold Bluffs Beach and Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a remote beach in northern…read moreHumboldt County. I personally love how secluded this beach is that stretches out for miles. This beach is great for walking along the shoreline and/or enjoying a picnic at. In order to get here you will have to drive on a somewhat twisty road for about 6 miles. It is right next to Fern Canyon so I love visiting both at the same time due to the close proximity to one another. There are unique hikes in Fern Canyon due to the fern-covered walls you can walk through. This is such a beautiful area. I have not used the campground and only visited the beach so I can't speak to the campground aspect of this area. It is very peaceful and serene and a place where you can often spot elk.

Gold Bluffs Beach extends for 10 miles along the Humboldt County coast in Prairie Creek Redwoods…read moreState Park. It requires a day use permit to enter because of the volume of visitors that come here. Mostly because popular Fern Canyon is next to it. Gold Bluffs has a campground with 26 sites. Permits are not required if you have camping reservations. To reach Gold Bluffs Beach, you have to drive on a 6 mile windy dirt road called Davison Rd that you can access near the Elk Meadow picnic area. Trailers are not allowed on Davison Road. Visitors will need to pay the day-use fee, or show their federal pass or CA state park passes at the Gold Bluffs Beach entrance station. You can also hike the 11-mile James Irvine loop trail from Prairie Creek Visitor Center. No permit is required if you are hiking. Gold Bluffs Beach was named after a gold discovery in the 1850's that attracted some interest by miners. If you are going to come here, make sure you check out nearby Fern Canyon. It is a must-see! The 1,200 mile California Coastal Trail runs through Gold Bluffs. After hiking Fern Canyon, I walked over to the coast of Gold Bluff to walk in the water and soak in the sun.
