These cabins are great! We stayed in Cabin K. Has its own private shower and bathroom. Amenities include complimentary coffee, heater, TV, WiFi, dinning utensils, microwave, mini fridge, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, makeup wipes, toilet paper, and plenty of towels. The bed is a little hard but slept fine through the night. Hot water worked. Located super close to Trinidad center and beach. The cabin itself it's really small perfect for a couple or solo stay. There was plenty of pillows which I loved. A little tip: I don't know if it had any correlation but when using the sink multiple times I only had freezing cold water. Once I turned on the shower later that day the hot water started flowing, I checked the sink again and I started to get hot water in the sink as well. read more

I stayed here in one of their smallest cabins (#26) and it surpassed all my expectations. There was a warm welcome at check-in at the camp office, with helpful information and clear instructions. They sell local wine, beer, camping goods & a few snacks in there, too. My little cabin was so fresh and spotlessly clean, I was shocked - It must have been very recently built and furnished, because everything about it looked brand new. The view of the forest was beautiful, and it was just a 2-min drive from downtown Trinidad. I also had a view of my neighbors from every window, because a place this lovely fills up. :) Emerald Forest Cabins did not disappoint, and the prices are unbeatable. What a lovely beautiful RV park. The giant redwoods are so soothing. We came during January so it was very slow. At most the campground had 3 of us which we don't mind at all. We like off season travel. And added bonus is this place is right off of 101 making it super convenient for traveling. Most spots have full hook ups. Some just w/e. They have a cute little u shaped area for pop-up campers. Not all sites are super level. Some are pull thru and some back in. Some spots back up to 101 but we became used to the sparse traffic quite quickly. The tent sites are mostly very private. They are nice. Perhaps the neatest places to stay are the cabins. They look so inviting. Some have full kitchens which works out nicely since this very well stocked grocer, Murphys, is just down the street. It was a surprising find in a town of a little over 300 souls. They have a hot bar too! Nice people abound in this area. The little store onsite is also well stocked. There are toasty bathrooms available and the showers, if needed, are coin operated. Fair warning: if you use starlink, there are a ton of trees! There is a "bark park". We visited all the cities/towns in the area including the absolutely adorable Ferndale! We highly recommend the beach in Trinidad. Just stunning with tons of soft sand. What an amazing site it is definitely a hidden gem. We made our first trip with our motorhome and it was an amazing staying. It was so peaceful and quiet. We stay in pull thru camp site #20. Staff was super helpful I called around 7 and kept getting disconnected due to service but Victoria was super helpful we got to campsite pretty late but it was not a problem. So glad they were open to help us other site closed at 5 and here they are open till 9. I am glad the other places were closed cause this place was perfect. I would definitely recommend this spot. read more

For the last couple of years, the Pandemic seemed to scare people in our lives from getting together for Thanksgiving... so instead of staying home, we decided to redo our "Thanksgiving in the Redwoods" that we enjoyed last year. With just a few weeks to spare, the delightful and compassionate souls at California State Parks decided to cancel our months old reservations at Patrick's Point State Park. In short, we were devastated, especially after having our El Capitan reservations cancelled by wildfire. Twice. Ever the optimist, Mrs. Picante jumped online to try to find a suitable replacement camping spot. She happened upon Emerald Forest, a privately owned camp spot just a few miles south of Patrick's Point, and still well within Trinidad proper. More importantly, still within day trip distance of redwoods, NorCal coast, and all the natural wonders for which we tow a trailer 700 miles north of our native SoCal. First of all, and maybe most importantly, the staff of this place is extremely nice. We had to make a couple of last-minute changes to our arrival and departure dates, and they were very accommodating. Secondly, the site has full hook ups, including electricity, water, cable TV, and sewer. Considering you have a better chance of finding a three legged ballerina then hook ups in a California state park, this was a bonus. Definitely added to our trip. Emerald Forest itself is privately on land hosting a stand of second growth redwoods, although there are some rather large trees. Nothing like the ancient old growth redwoods of yesteryore, but still very beautiful. Facility has indoor fully plumbed bathrooms and showers, gazebo, laundry facilities, And a front office that doubles as a convenience store of sorts. Just the essentials, but still pretty nice. The site also hosts cabins, ranging from two person deals to family size. Evidently, staying at a cabin includes hotel style linen service, cleaning, and the like. As for us, we enjoyed camping here in our 25 foot trailer. The camping sites were a little tight, and fairly close together, separated by a short fence and the hook up facilities, but no one seems to mind. One downfall if I had to be nitpicky is that our campsite was also right next to the Patrick's Point Dr. roadway, so there was definitely a little bit of automotive noise at certain times of the day, and a few people in the area really drive too fast. Then again, we've camped in lots of places with a lot more road and traffic noise. So it wasn't that big of a deal. Notably, there were no bear boxes or animal proof trash cans, and maybe they're not needed? After all, Emerald Forest is just a quarter mile or so from downtown Trinidad, and buffered from wilderness by the 101 freeway to some extent. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here, and the price was comparable to staying at the state park. That said, this privately owned facility provided a lot more flexibility for changes than any state park I've ever stayed at, and that makes a difference when push comes to shove. I definitely see us staying here again, and look forward to that opportunity. Thank you, Emerald Forest, for saving our Thanksgiving in the trees once again. read more

This was our first visit and we were blown away by the beauty of our campsite. We normally camp with an RV so this was my first tent camping experience and it was great. Tent campers are well spaced for privacy, facilities are well maintained and the staff was very professional and accommodating. We will definitely return! read more

My family spent four days and three nights at the Emerald Forest in Trinidad. The electrical and water hook ups were satisfactory. However, our stay there was less than satisfactory. What was most upsetting was how loud our campsite was. There was lots of noise pollution from the 101 highway. They told us that it would be a little loud, but we were woken up multiple times throughout the night by big trucks. However, what was most upsetting was that The staff would not return money that was used for showering to the amount of $1.50 because the showers would not automatically turn on. Each shower is $.50 for five minutes. we alerted the staff that our quarters did not produce water on multiple showers and we were not reimbursed the money. They stated that they would turn it into maintenance. This to me is unsatisfactory because if your money is taken without you receiving a good in return, that is theft. The campsite is clean and well kept however, I would not recommend it if you are looking to have a peaceful and tranquil night sleep after a clean shower. read more

If you want to experience multiple ways to enjoy Northern California this is your place. You can bring your RV, trailer, tent, or stay in a cabin. The location is ideal 5 minutes from the beach ( moonstone, luffenholtz, Trinidad bay), 20 minutes north are the redwoods and 20 minutes south are cute little towns (Eureka, Arcata, Ferndale, and Fortuna) Our cabin had a kitchen and all the essential cooking utensils- which worked out well because we ended up eating at home one night of our 3 night stay. The WiFi isn't the greatest so you need to take advantage of the surrounding beauty. We played cards on the patio. Also it was weird to be in such a damp area, towels don't dry as quickly as I'm used to but other than that it was so nice to enjoy cool temperatures in the sumner. The staff was friendly and helpful. We picked up additional coffee pods and shampoo in the office since they do not clean the rooms during your stay due to Covid protocols. read more

Great place to stay in Trindad for a weekend getaway! We got one of the cabins and it was comfortable and had all of the amenities we could need. Great location to go hike the red woods or go to the beach for some tide pooling. Also nearby to a few good places to eat including the Trinidad bay eatery, and headies pizza. read more

Used to be a nice place to stay. Now it costs you 50 cents for 5 min of shower and a minute of that is finding hot water. Used to have a laundry room, but no longer. You have to drive 20 minutes to McKinleyville to find a laundromat. Used to have cable TV, no longer. Now their internet service is with a company that you have to call to set up your smart tv. Used to be able to plug in your tv cable and get tv channels and wifi has so easy to log into. Now you have to call the company to hook you up. Or bring your Firestick or Roku with you. Very disappointed. Increased fees should be reduced for reduced amenities. Won't be back. read more

What a beautiful campground filled with redwoods! It took a little effort to level our motorhome in site 98 but it was worth it. Electric, water & dump at the site along with a picnic table and fire pit. Across the way was the very clean bathrooms with showers. Emerald forest, cabins, and RV park is a gem in the Redwoods. Now it's nothing fancy but the little cabin I stayed in, was pretty close to perfect. A little kitchenette that was up-to-date and will kept, a woodburning stove that worked great, and it came with wood for two nights. The bathroom wasn't very nice condition and clean. The bed was nice. There was also a flatscreen TV, which I could not figure out how to use. It was a streaming TV and I could not get any channels on it but I wasn't there to watch TV I was there to hike the redwoods and the beaches. My last thought on the place they could provide a laundry bag, a plastic laundry bag that you could throw your dirty clothes in when you went home. Other than that I would recommend this place to my friends and family and I will probably be staying there again. read more

I am upset I have to make this review, and never actually believed I would have to. I have been camping here since 2009 and has always held a special place in my heart. It has seen a couple different owners throughout the years with some upgrades and some downgrades. The sewage has been an ongoing issue the whole time and they have never seemed to figure it out. If you plan to book a specific site, be ready to pay more. (I think an extra $10 per night?) The worst part, you aren't even guaranteed the spot you want. We have shown up multiple times to the unfortunate news that our site has been moved for miscellaneous reasons. (Mainly sewage) This is a huge bummer when coordinating trips with groups that would love to camp side by side. Over the years we have encountered some very rude staff, I have been made to feel like I am doing something wrong or that I am a burden to them while checking in or asking questions. I can say, this year the employees were nicer but we still had issues with majority of our group getting their campsites relocated during check in. The showers used to be included in the price of your stay, and now they are quarter operated without any changes to the cost of your site. The showers are clean and have hot water. They also used to have coin operated laundry machines and those are gone now too. I showed up with a toddler hoping I could do a load if I needed to just to find out they aren't accessible anymore. You cannot put a tent in a trailer site anymore. Large dumpsters are placed right next to a nice green patch of grass so you get to smell them while you play with your kids and dogs (as long as the sewage isn't leaking into it) I would suggest this campground to someone who is an inexperienced camper because it does provide the amenities of the flush toilets, showers, a small store, a park, trash cans, and a place to do your dishes, but at this point, it's our very last resort. read more

without question the best spots here are the tent sites and the small cabins. The RV sites are pretty small and bunched together....unless you're able to get one of the larger sites in the back. Unfortunately, those sites are right next to the freeway. All in all, a very cool and convenient place, set in a small wooded area right off the 101 freeway. They're also dog friendly, and provide a small, fenced in dog run area. Besides walking around with the dogs and checking out the less travelled and more-wooded areas reserved for tent campers, we found the highlight of this location to be the really nice private shower and restroom facilities with heated floors. My parents stayed here this week for three nights in their RV. The place was crowded and cramped. It had the feeling of a mobile home park rather than a campground. The RV sites were crammed in together like sardines. There is no privacy. They are quite seriously shoved one next to the other where you can see in windows and almost touch each other. My parents were pretty bummed as the photos made it seem like you had trees and distance between sites. Driving around the place you can see how village like it is. There are a ton of cabins bumper to bumper, all facing each other in a ring, RV's crammed in the middle.... if you are looking for community and fellowship with strangers on your trip, this might be a place for you, but if you are wanting privacy, the illusion of seclusion, and a quiet stay, keep driving. It was noisy with all the dogs and traffic. When my parents arrived they were about to cancel their reservation and look elsewhere as this was not what they were expecting, but before they could, they overhead the front desk person telling someone else that they don't issue refunds if you cancel. So, there went that. They made the most of it. The hook up amps weren't what they needed and it wasn't a relaxing stay, but we were out and about enough that they were really only bothered at night. read more

We stayed at Emerald Forest RV Park in Trinidad, CA the first week of May 2021. The personnel at the park were very friendly and unobtrusive. Initially, we had reserved a site with water and 30A service (no sewer) but decided we would rather have full hookups. The staff were happy to accommodate us. We chose Emerald Forest because we travel with our dogs, and Emerald Forest happily accommodated us. They provide a small but clean dog area for off leash time but our dogs were welcome throughout the park on leash. The park itself is beautiful with big trees and natural, lush landscaping. The bathing facilities are clean, secure and well maintained. Our RV site (#72) was one that backed to Hwy 101 and, while road noise was present during the day when the log trucks are running but it was unnoticeable at night. The only downside was our RV site (#72) was VERY un-level. Not so much that a well prepared camper couldn't correct with blocks but... That said, the other RV sites seemed reasonably flat. The park is beautiful and well kept, VERY CLEAN. We stayed in spot #93, a pullthrough, and it is very large, even with a 35'TT. Hookups all worked great and there are multiple Cable Channels. Both 30&50Amp service. Fire Pit and Bench were far enough away to not crowd the VERY large space and no smoke blowing into the trailer. Did not see alot of maintenance crew, but quite frankly, the park is very clean and maybe they are Ninja's who you never see? I give it a 4 because it is LOUD. Highway 101 was RIGHT behind us. Between about 7AM-7PM, there is a lot of traffic. It really slows down when the sun sets, so the nighttime is not too bad. We are going to look for another campground that is a bit quieter, but love Trinidad and the surrounding area. read more

The spot we were assigned was in a bit of a hallow so we had a relatively secluded spot and were surrounded by redwood trees. The Office staff were not understanding knowing we were broke down and had to be towed from our site by charging us for two nights that we couldn't stay on a mid week day in the rain when they had other vacancies. Don't expect favors or compassion, paying customers are treated as anyone off of the street. My only complaint. There are nice hikes to local beaches all within a mile. read more

Totally felt mislead. The wife booked the cabin for family vacation, and the website information couldn't have been more vague or misleading. When I rent a family cabin that sleeps 6 people, I expected that it would have some kind of kitchen. Unfortunately, a microwave, Kurig coffee machine, and hotel fridge is their idea of a kitchen. I was hoping for at least a small sink, stove, and oven to cook our meals. I went to the office and was told some of them do, and some don't, and if we'd wanted one with a kitchen, we should have called them instead of online. And it's too late to try to get something else. Forgot to mention that we had to kill 3 sports. Never again, do a better job of reaching than we did, lol read more

ANOTHER YELP SUCCESS! I couldn't of been more excited to write this review. What an enchanted forest. I live in Sonoma County and hoped on Yelp to find a new place to take the TT (travel trailer). We drove 5 hours and 243 miles north on a whim to this magical enchanted forest and couldn't of been more pleased. The tent sites are DYNAMITE too ! We came the first weekend in May with our 7 mo old baby and 3 dogs. We found to much relaxation and peace and quiet. You can literally hear a pin drop. You are about a mile from the coast and protected from the trees. We stayed in site #20 which HUGE and a pull through corner site. There was so much room for our family to play. There are so many site here that are spread out. Take a walk deep in the grove, the tent sites are legit and tucked away with privacy. The bath house was the cleanest I've ever seen. It was cleaner than my bathroom. There is a fenced dog park, laundry facilities, arcade, cabins, store, gazebo, playground, grass, it's endless. Their store is open from 9am - 10pm We would absolutely come back here in a heartbeat. read more

Part of their sign is broken off so drive slow so you don't miss their entrance. Apparently it's an extra $10 tacked on to your stay if you have kids. Wifi doesn't work, there's 3 different ones that cycle for you to connect to but all have the same, non existent connection. We were only staying one night so really it was just a spot to pull through& park. However, when we pulled into our site we noticed there was no picnic table & no fire pit. Ok, weird but again we were just using it as a home base for the night. For the time we were at the site when we pulled in, we did notice a chunk of rusty metal in the middle of the site so my husband moved it off to the side so we could park & so the kids wouldn't get hurt on it. .. (later figured out it was, at one time, a fire ring) also enjoyed trash throughout our site (maybe previous persons trash bag opened? Overflowed? and a constant aroma of Marijuana (someone slept well lol). Again, whatever, gross, not staying again- were leaving in the am. Here's what pissed me off, next morning we leave and a few hours later get a phone call from someone accusing us of running over their fire pit. My husband explained to them what reality was and instead of, at minimal, apologizing in the least simply said well we'll have to check with maintenance. OK you do that & now, enjoy this review. Next time, maybe don't be rude & accusatory to your customers. read more
