It was a sunny, muggy day. We needed a shady place for a walk with the dog. We headed to Indian Crossing Trails Park in Tecumseh. There is a one-mile trail that is mostly shaded. The shady southern end is a bit buggy, which encourages one to keep moving. There is more parking at the southern end of the trail, accessible from Chicago Blvd. The far northern end of the trail is off Burt Rd. and has a large dam/spillway. Walk over the metal grate and you'll be on the sunnier part of the trail. The trail is well maintained. Exposed tree roots on the trail have been sprayed with fluorescent paint, to prevent tripping. If you don't know what poison ivy looks like, STAY ON THE TRAIL. It's all over the place, but easy enough to avoid if you just stay on the trail. Don't let your dog run off into the underbrush, since that's likely to trigger a family-wide poison ivy attack. There are picnic shelters with grills and tennis courts on the southern end of the park. The old mill, which was built in the 1830s, was the town's grain mill. Later, the wooden water wheel was updated to steel by Henry Ford. The modernized building is now the Tecumseh Community Center, which houses the senior center, a physical therapy office and a health club.
