Now I'm moving back into the area, once again it's a haven of everything old, cheap and totally not antique. I while ago I bought a really old heavy oak table here. It was covered in graffiti but with a little bit of sanding and a lick of paint, it's now a piece in my room that people comment on. It makes me even happier that you can haggle for prices, if you can understand the very strong Irish accents going on that is. I did struggle but eventually, we cut a deal and for £35 I could have the table delivered. They have books, vinyl, vhs, laps, wardrobes, chairs, dining sets. Every weekend it's something different so get there early if you want to have the best pick of stuff. Bring cash, no your spending limit and don't pay more than a tenner for delivery.

I left with a suitcase with detachable rucksack (a suitcase that can be carried as a rucksack, with arm straps!) and a huge duffel bag to stow the carseat in. I thought the prices to be competitive (the duffel bag only £14!) and the service top notch. The guy helped me with everything, took it to the counter while I looked around, helped me with the Summit Club membership and packaged it all up smoothly so I could get it back to my flat. The Kathmandu items are high quality and have already made many trips. They are durable and sleek, and high performance. Just what I needed. The last thing you want to deal with while traveling (with a baby or not) is crap luggage. I always believe 'outdoor' stores were specially for extreme snowboarders or wannabe Nepalese-mountain climbers. Boy, was I wrong. Set right next to Spitalfields Market and boasting some rather fit staff, Kathmandu has everything for the civilian to adventurer. Water flasks, jackets, thermals, little key ring things with torches on them, it has it all. I actually found heaps of stuff I wanted to buy - probably more in the way you deck yourself out with designer gym wear after only one visit, to realise you're not quite the gym junkie you thought you would become if in fact you had the correct gear. It was fun anyway.

A few years ago this was mainly a DIY place where you could pick up paint and the like. However…read morethey have put in a first floor, which doubles the space and it now has kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, making it far more useful. There are invariably lots of sale items and it is certainly worth a look if you fancy a new kitchen. However it still stocks the usual suspects.

Inside you'll find garden furniture galore, BBQs, water features, pet supplies, tools and lots more. At Christmas they have a big selection of tree decorations, as well as cut and living trees. What really helps to make this place special is the aquatic section - it's like a mini aquarium. Whenever we come here as a family we must go to the aquatic section to look at the beautiful tropical fish, the slimy snails and the koi carp, to name but a few. I've always found the staff helpful. If they didn't know the answer they would get someone who does. If you're looking for something for the garden, you may want to try here. I certainly never seem to leave empty handed.

Bit of a nuisance not being able to pick up small furniture, such as a mirror, straight away. It has to be delivered at cost which I think is a bit of a rip off.

Shout out to Megan who gave us some great service. Went there during the sale and bought 4 pieces…read moreof Balmoral furniture (fancy!). Unfortunately one piece, the single bookcase had just been discontinued and we weren't able to order it. Megan then offered the store model as an ex display piece and seeing as I wanted two, called round all of the London stores looking for another one. Unfortunately (again!) one couldn't be found so she took us round the entire range until we found a suitable replacement. We also bought another store piece and completed the order. I had everything finally delivered yesterday and delivery was also good, the Laura Ashley people have me an expected time a couple of days in advance, called beforehand and delivered the ones from warehouse without issue. The independent delivery guy, Desmond, recommended by the store also delivered early. I felt really bad as I live on the fourth floor and one of his pieces didn't fit in the lift, he'd already told me that if this was the case there would be an extra fee, but the speed and professionalism he did it in meant that I had no problem in doing so. I'll definitely check out Laura Ashley again the next time I'm looking for furniture!

Disappointing experience in this store-although there are some nice items available, the old lady…read morewho works there on Sundays was unpleasant and snobbish. Not only was she complaining because I had gathered 'too many items' to try on, she was nudging me to go into the changing room because I was 'taking stock that others could buy'. There were plenty of fully stocked rails plus this was near closing time so this was all a bit ridiculous. Then because I wasn't out of the changing room quick enough she almost yanked the curtain open asking if I'm 'ok'. She also complained that I was in the shop far too long. I mean talk about bad customer service! I advise you give your money to a different charity, have also found the staff at Stamford Hill's All Aboard to be highly unpleasant. Will definitely not be returning and will be telling friends and family not to either
