It's always a delight to come into this shop. I consider GTO a sure bet for gifts - or when I'm just in the mood to purchase something lovely for my own sheer enjoyment. It seems as if the buyers here really scour...the product assortment is classic, but usually with a interesting twist... almost everything they have on offer is something distinctive and really worth having. The products run the gamut of home furnishings... vases, dishes, accent pillows, hard bound books... even bath and body products. I'm especially a fan of their glassware... it's all very sturdy and uniquely decorated - I once found some very elegant, very masculine, tan-coloured tumblers that looked like they'd be at home in the hand of James Bond - the guy who got them thought they were marvelous. They also have a charming card and stationary section... really different and lovely.

Basically, they sell three things: - expensive vintage European (not really antique) Asian and European furniture and accessories (leather armchairs, side-tables, elephants carved from driftwood, pond yachts, stone Buddhas) -Serious home things - porcelain, lamps, framed prints, soaps and fine linens, all with a fairly traditional style - All manner of gifty things, especially at Christmas - joke books, small toys, decorations, silver picture frames, scented candles... A good place to come and look for presents, or a nineteenth century brass telescope on a tripod at a 300% markup. (Update - the cafe has gone)

I hardly even thought this store would be worth visiting again until I'd come to the very end... and then things started to get interesting... This is where some intriguing antiques are to be found. Old pictures, and books, and mirrors... but for the crème de la crème of this place, don't miss the treasures on display in the (locked) large china cabinet in the right-hand corner - full of whimsical antique curiosities. Ms. Phillips also takes commissions for interior design... not only using the sort of items you see in her shop, but also using some of her own original designs and any individually specified piece.

It may seem odd to give this delicious little store 5 stars but ultimately when one is shopping in London a calm sanctuary is always preferable to west london crazy. This review is only for the Daniel Craig tea towel…read more I first saw the tea towel at a small shop in Kinsale, Ireland but the shopkeeper would not sell it to me because it was part of their store display. I begged, pleaded, and groveled to no avail. She simply shooed me out of her store as it was closing time. Dejected, I went back home a few days later but found that it was available through Emma Bridgewater online however it would have cost almost twice to ship to California. I simmered on the thought of purchasing a tea towel for nearly $50 and decided against it. A few months later my birthday comes around and one of my gal pals surprised me with a "I HAD A REALLY NICE DREAM LAST NIGHT ABOUT DANIEL CRAIG" tea towel. I was over the moon. Apparently she has a friend who lives in London who bought it for her and sent it to give to me. That was thoroughly sweet and thoughtful. I love my Daniel Craig tea towel and refuse to use it for anything other than a wall decoration.
Putting slightly irreverent, post modern slogans on tea cups just isn't the same as putting them on…read moret-shirts. Putting it on a t-shirt might say lots of bad things about you but it also says I'm not afraid to emblazon this on my chest, I want you to know what I think. And what I think is that 'Everyone must listen to ghostface' or 'Paris Hilton s*cks'. It's in your face and it's hard to know exactly how it relates to the person underneath the skin underneath. A cup is different though. Whatever you write on a cup it inevitably just ends up saying 'I really find peppermint tea helps me to digest better' or 'I drink green tea and therefore I FEEL ALIVE ALL THE TIME'. To be fair, the Bridgewater slogans don't ever allude to Paris Hilton and in general they are fairly sweet adding a little bit of personality and lightness to kitchen stuff. They do loads of it, there's whole crockery sets on offer, for kids too, as well as mugs, cups and utensils. The company slogan is 'some of the nicest things in your kitchen' - pop in, they probably will be.

They pride themselves in having their products hand made, on the most part, in the UK and Europe. It is part of their 'green' commitment. They also source their wood and glass (for their mosaic collection) from sustainable forests, 86% of their glass is recycled. The most educational part of my visit to the store was their fully fitted 'library' it had paint samples, tiles, rugs and wood sample that you can also experiment with and mix and match, very hands on. Products are displayed concisely and intelligently in what can only be described as a quality environment. I am contemplating showing them my hand made tile collection, it would be amazing to have my creations alongside theirs.
