I thought, OK, maybe they're having a bad day. So after a while I decided that everyone deserves a second chance, the next time we decided to order take away, they got that wrong too. The food was ... ok.... by no mean standards. The naan bread was dry (big disappointment) and the korma wasn't quite how I would expect. I'm a huge Indian fan so I was gutted when all this happened. i would love more excellent Indian restaurants around the area. One of the most unique dishes was the Horin-Er-Mangsho, a loin of local venison flame-grilled to medium rare and served with tamarind sauce on the side. The venison was super juicy, meaty, and flavorful, making for a delicious starter. For my main, I got the Kolkata Thali, described on the menu as "South East Indian Tapas." This metal platter came with a sampling of different vegetarian dishes including breaded paneer, aloo tikki (spiced mashed potato patty), stir-fried okra, shredded potatoes, dal (mixed lentils), chickpeas in tomato sauce, eggplant in tomato sauce, raita, rice, and plain naan. My favorite was the aloo tikki, which was nicely spiced--in general, however, most of the dishes on the thali were all toned down in spices to fit a more Anglo-Indian flavor palate. So while this wasn't the most authentic Indian food I've tried, the restaurant still made for nice trendy dining experience.

This is the only one I have been to, but as far as I know they are all quite uniform so it shouldn't be to much of a problem! The décor is quite modern, lots of use of colour in the terms of fixtures and fittings which takes the harshness off the heavy steal chairs and dark leather padded booth seats. I'd heard a lot of mixed opinions on this place. Some people thought it was the greatest of all Indian restaurants, whilst others have declared war on it, trying their best to make sure no one has to experience what they thought was an all together rubbish night. Deciding to make up my own mind, I went one evening with an old girlfriend of mine to see what Indie had to offer. As I've mentioned before the décor is fantastic, cannot fault it. The décor was all but important by the end of the meal. In terms of price, most Indians are quite expensive in Belfast, but Indie takes it to a whole new level with the menu dividing and pricing everything, by the time you've constructed your meal from the massive selection available, the hopes of a movie afterwards becomes a prospect that could lead to financial ruin! The food was quite nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and so did my company. We did however have a problem with the staff. They weren't particularly rude or unhelpful with our orders, but our seats were quite near to the register. A quieter moments, they would gather round the till and scream and shout to each other. It was busy for a Tuesday night. It was cosy warm inside too in contrast to a bitterly cold, dank evening outside. The welcome was friendly and the staff were thoroughly delightful and attentive throughout our stay. I opted for prawn puri with delicious puri breads. The portion of prawns was decent and the curry was only alright. 2 stars. The 5 star breads (see photos) were dainty, made from wholewheat, and not at all oily. The six served up were a first for me and probably equate to what is usually served - one piece-plate sized and usually oily bread. The menu didn't offer king prawn puri. I suppose I just should have asked. Another of our party got the lamb seekh kebab and liked it - it was a good portion. I had the muttar paneer (no artificial colour no sugar) main with peshwari nan 3 and 4 star respectively. So my sugar kick came from the peshwari nan. Both good tasting especially the cheese but the main portions were a bit smaller than I get in the places I usually frequent in Glengormley and Belfast. I also had pilau rice and disliked it very much as it didn't taste good to me. The others got fried rice with bits of vegetables in that seemed better. My rice was basmati for sure and perfectly cooked but nothing like I've had before over 40 years. It may well be popular in Lisburn but I wouldn't order it again and I just can't put my finger on why not. One of the party got korma the other a chicken tikka masala and both were over adulterated with sugar but the artificial red and yellow colours in them are a real turn off for me. Just to go off on a tangent - M&S sell a tikka masala with no artificial food colour added for £5. It serves two. They call it best ever. I add two teaspoons of brown sugar and two tablespoons of double cream to it when it's cooked and it knocks the socks of most Indian takeaways at a quarter of the price. So back to Spice: it was high end pricing for sit in so 3 star value for money. With these prices the food should be faultless, free from artificial colour and a good portion of meat to sauce. So it's a good 3 star on food/portion size against cost. With ever rising prices and inflation all round, price point will likely make the difference to survival for many places this year and quality will count. If it was just on friendly service and comfort it would be 5 star. I had hoped it would be better as it's closer to home for us but I'm afraid it's still Glengormley first (Indian Ocean) and Belfast second (Bengal Brasserie).

We weren't disappointed, their portions are big with plenty left over for another night. We opted for their chilli and garlic chicken tikka masala, and a korma (don't under estimate a korma and say they are dull, they can be so tasty and satisfying if done right). We had a side of chips and rice and peshwari nann, and 2 tins. It was all cooked well with lots of flavour, and no random bits of veg thrown in, I hate it when they throw a bit of cauliflower or a load of broccoli into it. It all came to about £20 which was certainly cheaper than going out for an Indian. This may well be our regular, everyone needs a regular Indian!
