So while it's 5 stars here let me deal with the single biggest criticism I have - bloody chemically made red food dye (quite literally, as well as figuratively) - in their chicken tikka massala (see photo) and likely also in one of the free poppadum dips.
The use of chemicals like these food colours is 1 star as I can't make it zero.
The good news is that the food is really tasty (which is the only reason it's 5 stars) and chemical food colours are not needed as it adds nothing to taste, and in the 21 century, with genuine well-founded additive health risks/scares it's surely not the image they want, especially as all the meals here are priced right at the very top dollar end - so value for money is barely 3 stars.
We were there early evening May 2021 and they were very busy - maybe a post lockdown bounce?
Staff were attentive and gracious with it.
I had muttar paneer, a sort of cottage cheese in a delightful curry gravy with peas (see photo).
Although it was very tasty indeed, with a fairly good portion, it had to be as the mark up has to be over 700%. The addition of grated fresh ginger added depth to the dish and was very welcome too.
My wife and I shared an overpriced yellow pilau rice (hopefully coloured with turmeric) and an overpriced: peswari nan (which was sadly more of a thin crisp bread than bread and 3 star) with the mark up here too at least 600%. At its price it should be a proper, fluffy, large nan bread.
In short, they must have extremely good profit margins so this should be consistently reflected in the quality of healthy food served up - if it's called nan bread, as it is, and instead it's a thin crisp bread, as it is, then it's well overpriced and it is.
I also tried the balti chicken and again it had a really delicious and balanced flavour, but as I close this review their unnecessary use of industrially processed, chemical, sunset red food dye in dishes that are certainly priced much more than high enough to contain only natural food, just bugs me and if I keep thinking about it I'll drop the review overall to between 2 & 3 stars. read more
