This truly authentic Indian restaurant is the brainchild of Head Chef Sanjay and Front of House Manager Pawan. The team have put a lot of effort into this place. It is ideally located and has plenty of car parking and seats 85 people. The ribbon was cut by the landlord and then Sanjha opened for business. There was a Prosecco aperitif on arrival, followed by popadoms and chutneys. Starter for me was a mixed platter of chicken, salmon, shami kebab, aloo tikki and onion bhaji served with spaghetti salad and chutneys (mint and mango). The starters were amazing and set the bar high for the mains. The main course duly arrived and consisted of butter chicken, Rogan josh, saffron rice and nan. The taste was so real it was as if I was sitting in India and eating it!!!! There is an extensive wine and cocktail list- which looked very appealing!! The speed of service was pretty efficient given that the order was pretty large and they threw in a 1.25 litre of Diet Coke as well as the usual dips that are routinely complimentary. One novelty here was the food serving hatch. We were cramped into the ground floor entrance space with the kitchen upstairs and the food orders arrive from above via a dumb waiter above head level where the guy sits who takes the orders. I chose the butter chicken. There was a chicken tikka masala, a chicken biryani and another main. I also sampled a paneer side dish but didn't get round to trying the aubergine curry. The paneer was very good. The nan breads were good too. The only dish I wasn't impressed with was the onion bhaji starters. It really is a wonder how they can give so much food for the money. One of the highlights of the evening - apart from the large bottles of icy kingfisher beer that flowed - was the arrival of a fresh Carolina reaper chilli cut into shards. The worlds hottest chilli with a distinctive tail that gives it the reaper title. It averages over 1.5 million on the Scoville heat scale with individual chilli going over 2 million. The one in front of me was supercharged, fruity, complex and enough to make me go purple, which provided some hilarity around the table. So I had another shard which was equally explosive. We ordered online through Hungry house and ordered 2 mains which came with a choice of side (rice or chips) and a peshwari naan (I can't order an indian without getting this)! My main was the rajastani chicken which was described as hot and spicy which is exactly what it was. Just enough of a spice for me - any hotter and it wouldn't have been enjoyable! I'll know to stay away from the extremely hot ones! My hubby went for the lamb rogan josh which was the perfect medium spice. This is the only one I have been to, but as far as I know they are all quite uniform so it shouldn't be to much of a problem! The décor is quite modern, lots of use of colour in the terms of fixtures and fittings which takes the harshness off the heavy steal chairs and dark leather padded booth seats. I'd heard a lot of mixed opinions on this place. Some people thought it was the greatest of all Indian restaurants, whilst others have declared war on it, trying their best to make sure no one has to experience what they thought was an all together rubbish night. Deciding to make up my own mind, I went one evening with an old girlfriend of mine to see what Indie had to offer. As I've mentioned before the décor is fantastic, cannot fault it. The décor was all but important by the end of the meal. In terms of price, most Indians are quite expensive in Belfast, but Indie takes it to a whole new level with the menu dividing and pricing everything, by the time you've constructed your meal from the massive selection available, the hopes of a movie afterwards becomes a prospect that could lead to financial ruin! The food was quite nice. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and so did my company. We did however have a problem with the staff. They weren't particularly rude or unhelpful with our orders, but our seats were quite near to the register. A quieter moments, they would gather round the till and scream and shout to each other. Ok down to the nitty gritty, what's the food like? The menu is very extensive with a great range of fish and veggie dishes, as well as all the usual meat dishes you would expect from an Indian. I had one of the specials (It was either Crayfish or Langoustine) Ko-Rathi with a garlic Naan and some pilau rice. I have to say it was cooked to perfection and absolutely amazing.
