Raviz is yummy cheap Indian food! This is my family's local choice of Indian and I really would…read morehave to rate it. As boring as it sounds I just cannot go past their butter chicken and poppadum's; unbeatable combination. The nan bread is also worth getting. Located on the corner of Ladies Mile and Main Highway in Ellerslie, you cannot miss where Raviz is based. Many years ago I'm pretty sure it was a gas station and from its external appearance you can definitely see that it could have been. This area has now been turned into onsite parking. What I think is great about Raviz is that they have a lot of daily deals. For example, on Sundays kids dine for free when accompanied by a parent. How cool is that! They also have great $12.95 lunch specials. So come on down to Ellerslie and try some yummy cheap Indian, you'll be impressed.

This place should be avoided, as it has been consistently and rapidly going downhill. Tonight's…read moreexperience topped this off, and it will be the last time we get take out from there. First off, we were kept waiting an additional twenty minutes for our takeaway order. No apology, no explanation, nothing. This is standard at this place. When we actually got our takeaway home (a two minute drive around the corner) the whole lot was cold. Not lukewarm - cold. The onion bhaji was honestly disgusting, it was dripping in grease, the batter was raw, and so were the onions. Inedible. The naan bread was undercooked and mostly dough. Inedible. The curries themselves tasted of nothing, and were stone cold. I don't really know why we waited the unexplained additional twenty minutes, or what they were doing during that time, but it certainly wasn't cooking this meal. When we called, we explained the issue and requested this to be refunded. We also explained that we were regulars and didn't want a fuss or any reason to be put off eating there. The "manager" on he phone was unhelpful and rude. Their solution was for us to give them the food back and get another order. We again requested the refund, as we didn't want to wait another unreasonable amount of time for a sub-par meal. The next solution was for us to give them the food back and maybe they would give us a discount or some cash back. The whole conversation went on and on and on.... In the end - we have no meal, and no refund. This was probably the worst example of customer service I have seen in Auckland - such a shame. Had all of this been when the restaurant was busy, we would understand more - the place was literally empty (rightly so if this is their standards these days). It is so disappointing to have to write a review like this, as this has been our local for a number of years. We will never give these people our money again, and I would strongly advise others to avoid being treated in the same way.

That's why I leave it at 4 instead of 5 tbh. The samosas are legit - big, fat, not oily and chock full of potatoes, peas, and spices. It comes with imli chutney (tamarind) but if you ask nicely they'll throw in some mint chutney as well. Our usual order is dhal makhani and palak paneer - both are super yummy and come with nice threads of fresh ginger on top - amaaaazing. Note: they do mild, medium, hot, and Indian hot. I can usually take pretty hot and medium is plenty here - it's no joke. The best thing here is easily the naan bread. They've got a tandoor and their naan is delicious for a little takeaway shop. Not greasy, you can order online, it's a short walk from the Glen Inness train station, and they're super friendly. Oh and if you live nearby, they deliver! Easy to see how they've made metro cheap eats a few years running. Check it out, be happy!

Not to mention the lunchtime special is only $10 for a curry of your choice + rice + naan bread. They serve large portions too, which often makes it a struggle to fit it all in. But you know that feeling when you know you should stop eating, but the food is just so good? That's the feeling these curries deliver. The staff are friendly; the girl who usually takes the orders is always smiling. Not the fanciest restaurant as a dine-in option, so probably not the ideal place if you're looking to impress a first date, however the food fully makes up for it.
