Each floor tells a story about a specific part of the artist's life and work, and the execution is flawless. Lots of good storytelling both in the walls descriptions and the art itself. The layout was truly excellent. The building takes you through a variety of presentations across the floors, whether the cavernous hall for the big pieces; the mockup of Munch's home; or the unique floor plan for the scream and the other concepts. It makes you feel like you've been through a whole journey by the end. Definitely worth the price of admission!

Plus of course many of his works including a rotation of three of his "The Scream" works. Some aspects of the exhibit are a bit depressing as he was a very troubled person with many medical issues. There are also sections with adult content so parents with children should be aware. Be sure and have a drink at the rooftop bar for excellent views.

Highlight of our Oslo trip hands down!…read more There are indoor and outdoor exhibitors, making this museum agreeable to whatever the weather has in mind for the day. While the indoor exhibits are fun and educational, my family and I found the outdoor displays especially interesting and fun. Tons of photo opps, and lots of places with shade if you're worried about sun exposure. Inside there are even legos and books (in Norwegian) for children. Be sure to look for: -Kong Oscar church (absolutely beautiful) -the horses! -staff dressed up in traditional Norwegian clothing Keep in mind: -outdoors has some inclines (not the most stroller friendly, but doable) Tip: bring a selfie stick to get some photos in front of some of the very tall outdoor displays!

The architecture is outstanding, and the opportunity to walk on the roof makes the visit even more special. The surrounding area is beautifully landscaped and offers many excellent spots for relaxing and taking photographs. The building feels impressive and monumental while still maintaining an elegant appearance. Even without attending a performance, it is well worth visiting to experience the atmosphere of one of Oslo's most iconic landmarks. Operataket Observation Deck - The free observation deck on the roof of the Opera House is, in my opinion, one of the places that nobody should miss when visiting Oslo. The climb is easy and the reward is a stunning panoramic view of the city, the fjord and the harbour area. I especially liked that the roof is freely accessible and provides plenty of space for walking, relaxing and taking photographs. The combination of the building's modern architecture and the surrounding scenery creates a truly unique experience.

The Vigeland Sculpture Park was quite an impressive collection of sculptures and wrought iron works…read morecreated by Gustav Vigeland. It was one of the world's largest outdoor park by one artist. From the entrance gate it confirmed Tony's just how far we'd have to walk to see all of Vigeland's works. The intricate wrought iron gates at theme trance was just a taste and more of that seen as we god into the maze section (closed at the time of our visit). The bridge contained more statues and the most popular was the Angry Boy. A must see with that expression so plainly etched on his face and the in the position of the body. The massive fountain formed from bodies holding a huge bowl on top was a reflection of the burdens we shoulder. The tree of life was reflected plaques mounted all around the fountain and showed our life to death progress. The Monolith at the top of the hill was carved from a single block of granite and was a site to behold with the many carved bodies intertwined together reaching upwards. The Wheel of Life sculpture at the very end was the final piece in this part of the park. The museum was located ten minutes away from the park in a building erected by the City of Oslo for Vigeland. He turned over all of his work to the city after his passing as part of his agreement and funding. The museum housed many of the models used for those sculptures in the park as well as the wrought iron works that were never installed. The portion of the museum where Vigeland lived was only open at certain times but not during our visit. Well worth taking a short tram or bus ride away from the heart of Oslo.

This is a sculpture garden filled with over 200 sculptures (and over 600 individual figures)…read moredesigned by Gustav Vigeland from 1940 to 1949. I doubt you have ever seen anything like this. I am including lots of photos because it's impossible to describe what this is like. The focus of the sculptures is the cycle of life and this is literally shown as babies turn into children, who then turn into adolescents, adults, and old people, and eventually die -- as the circle continues. You will notice that the statues are very realistic and are not romanticized in the least. They are regular human beings. You will also notice, of course, that they are all naked. The purpose of this is to emphasize their humanity without relying on class or wealth that becomes more obvious when people wear clothes. This might make some people uncomfortable, but it is done without any intention of being erotic. The inspiration for Vigeland's work comes from Rodin's nude sculptures. However, the realistic human statues remind me of Pompei -- real human people caught in a fragment of time. That said, is it worth your time while in Olso? Absolutely! This will overwhelm your senses and be etched in your memory -- in a good way.

After going…read moreup the stairs to the upper levels, we realized that there is ramp that allows people to actually enter the ship. We had no idea that we would be allowed on, so this was a nice surprise. After looking around on deck we went down the steps to explore the ship. The crew rooms, store houses, dining hall and engine room were all made into beautiful exhibits. There are still books, tools, equipment, and clothing items left from the ships voyages. A real treasure for me was the vintage Singer sewing machine, it was stunning. Seeing the ships diesel engine was also really cool. In the halls of the building that surround the ship, there is a lot of information on the crew, the Greenland voyage, and much more. There are a few places for kids to enjoy, like the polar room. As far as accessibility, there is an elevator and ramp, though I only saw stairs that lead below deck. The stairs that are built into the ship are steep, so caution is needed. We bought the 2 museum combination ticket and I think it was worth the price for what we got.

It was quite busy given it was a Saturday at the height of tourist session. We were able to get a good discount and got the combo ticket to also visit the Kon Tiki museum next door. The museum is quite good and did a nice job of telling not only the story of the Fram and it's many expeditions but the story of other related explorers and explorations to the Artic and Antarctica. Most of this was new to me so it was quite educational. The two ships were fun to walk through and the many displays contained a ton of information (frankly way more than I could absorb). They do have a small snack area but it has a pretty basic selection if you are counting on it for lunch. Overall a worthwhile visit.

The large crab apple tree planted in the center of the large lawn was so abundant that there were tons of over ripened ones that had fallen all over and littered the lawn. This caused a bunch of bees buzzing around them on the lawn. There are also a lot of tourists walking the outer grounds of the castle, stopping to pose next to the cannons. The views of the ocean and blue skies are noteworthy. It was worth the long walk from the hotel.

We needed a quick bite to eat and we were thinking bar, snacks, and small plates. The restaurant had a really nice modern and slightly upscale vibe . It was nice and cozy. The service was really good too with the waitress explaining the menu to us since it was a new tasting menu they were trying . I got a local beer and we tried the miso, glazed eggplant with non-bread and the lobster roll . Both items were extremely delicious and surprisingly filling for being small plates style . From what I've read, they have live entertainment and music upstairs on certain nights, but we came on a quiet evening. If you're looking for late night bar snacks and a nice chill atmosphere this is definitely a place to go !
