We ordered the afternoon tea set, a classic I've had many times here. But when it arrived, the quality was frankly shocking. Not only was there visible dirt hanging off the bottom of the tray, but the food itself was of unacceptable quality. The sandwiches were completely dried out - I don't mean toasted, I mean visibly desiccated and wilted. The salmon had clearly oxidized edges that had already turned hard, an obvious sign that it had been sitting around in the open for hours. The roast beef sandwich was soggy and thoroughly soaked through. The tuna had begun to bulge and run out. The petit-four cakes were even worse. Not only were several of them also visibly dried out and tasted like it, too, but one of the cakes was missing half of it, looking like someone had taken a bite out of it. The Punschkrapfen was almost inedible, a congealed filling and top that had already started to crystallize, so it could barely be cracked or cut. Another sign of something that has been sitting in the open for hours. The tea did not appear to be freshly brewed, either. Usually we would get a tea pot with leaves inside, to steep directly at the table (a given in good tea houses, really). This time, however, we got a pot with ready-made tea and no leaves that tasted stale and flat. This would have been complaint-worthy and completely unacceptable for any average to low-end restaurant. For a price of just over €50 for two, it is quite frankly an insult. The only reason I didn't raise a ruckus right then and there was the fact that I was having a business meeting and a train shortly after. Haas&Haas used to be something, but this most recent experience was shocking to say the least. Be warned - this may not be the tea house you remember.

It was a lovely summer day, and they sat us outside in a covered area. You would not even know you are in a busy tourist area. The ambiance was adorable, and I felt I went back in time when they sat us in the corner next to an older gentleman painting watercolors. The tea was perfect and just what I wanted. We opted for breakfast and were not disappointed either. I recommend making a reservation. We went on the off chance that we might get a seat and lucked out because the rest of the day was fully booked. Also, stop by the tea shop for your tea supplies. I found things there that I was not able to find in the states.

They have a very interesting store front, with a vast assortment of dried teas, accompanied by ornaments and tchotchkes in the windows. Come to find out, Jäger Tee is Vienna's oldest tea shop (150 years!), and a very classy place. Its staff know tea inside and out, if that's possible, and can answer any question you could possibly have about their products, or tea in general. The shop has actually been in the family since its creation, which is pretty cool. The place itself is cozy and quaint, and a site to be appreciated in and of itself. There is even a charming, albeit small, tea room in the back of the shop. Not only will you be hard-pressed to find a place with a better tea selection in Vienna, but this place also sells some AMAZING shortbread cookies that are also made with tea! And this summer they had an iced matcha tea (green tea), that was liked by pretty much everyone at the Elite event (even people who normally don't like matcha tea, green tea in general, or iced tea!) Finally, while it might seem a bit pricey, for the quality of the products and given the fact that you probably can't find most of the teas at other shops in Vienna, the prices seem completely reasonable, particularly given the helpfulness and knowledge of the staff. They had a large variety of black, white, green, and fruit teas. Even wine and liqueur infused teas. The service was so great I found it hard to leave this quaint little spot.
