There are over 50 languages spoken at the school with a constant flow of immigrant and refugee families. Given these challenges the teachers, staff and administration work tirelessly to meet the needs of these children. All students take drama, music and dance in addition to academics. While state test scores may lag behind the general population when one looks at year to year gains it is clear the teachers are doing an amazing job. It is easy to generalize from test scores without digging into the whole picture. I will send my child there as soon as they are old enough. I want them to learn to negotiate the real world and make friends from a diverse group of children.

Student achievement has worsened from D to F since she came to her position. In 2018 rankings, just 2% of students read at grade level. The school scored in the bottom 5% of all NM Title 1 schools, and has been targeted as needing level two NMPED intervention. Clearly Sigmon's record shows her to be a vastly overrated educator with friends in APS administration.

She makes learning something to be discovered, like treasure he finds every day. He is always wanting to learn more about whatever they are currently studying. The Kindergartener loves his teacher too. He is learning so much and becoming a very inquisitive child. He is making great friends with the other children and learning how to talk with adults. It's wonderful that both kids are encouraged to interact with God on a personal level every day. They are asked to memorize scripture and pray regularly. Eastern Hills Christian Academy is an amazing place where my children are safe. They are learning every day and are being taught by people who want the same things for my children that I do. I never doubt that the people who work there love their jobs.

After a bullying problem at one of the other Catholic schools in town, this was a breath of fresh air. Students and staff were very welcoming and was such an easy transition (for an awkward 13 year old girl that is). I learned a lot academically and personally that year. I became better at math and science, and my math teacher (Mrs. Stratmoen) had actually inspired me to pursue math further. A little more expensive than some of the other Catholic schools in town, but well worth it

I was told that Del Norte is the smallest high school compared to all of those within the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) district. Back in the day when DNHS opened in 1964 it was the most northern property in the city (hence, the name), so nothing was more north than the campus. My has this city grown! SIDE NOTE: Very few of my yelp friends know that I substitute taught for three consecutive school years; I made my schedule open to all high and middle schools, yet I only subbed at certain elementary schools because I already knew I was a better fit for older students. In those three school years, I discovered that I really work best with high schoolers compared to any other age group; therefore, I just had to find a location that worked best with my volunteer and family schedules. I found my spot. On a funny note, DNHS refers to its campus as the Castle. So, the Queen of Albuquerque found a place for her crown. ;-) Anyone using the yelp app knows who sometimes holds this title. *wink* What I love about Del Norte High School: ODE TO DNHS. Okay -- my heart is really signing this and not my voice. I appreciate the staff and faculty, the new building, the location, and the students. As of the fall semester of 2014 the cafeteria is still being built, so if you drive by the Castle, you'll see the construction underway. The projected completion date is the fall semester of 2015. I gave Del Norte 4 stars, but that requires an explanation. Ranking wise Del Norte is a below…read moreaverage school. However based on two things occuring it can provide an above average education. First your child must be self motivated and proactively pushing their own education. Second there needs to be significant parent involvement in what classes they take and addressing issues with the school administration when they come up. With these two things your child can get an above average education at Del Norte. Without them you are looking at average at best.
