I USED THIS CENTRAL STATION A FEW TIMES DURING MY STAY IN MUNICH…read more=============================== My husband and I took one of the regional ICE (white and red) trains from Munich to Stuttgart on Monday, April 20th, because I had tickets for the Porsche Factory tour. Everything worked out pretty well, but you will need the PIN for any credit cards you use in the machines to buy tickets. We didn't have that. We then had to find out where the information office was and purchase tickets at the counter. You could also buy your tickets in advance on one of the aps, but I couldn't get the DB ap to work at all when in Munich even with a full cellular plan. Trainline seemed to work a lot better. My main point is that you probably shouldn't wait until the last minute if you need to be in another city at a set time. Also, carry lots of Euro coins while in Germany. You have to pay 1 1/2 Euros at this station to use the restroom.

Normally you would expect a station like this to have multiple options but really this one only has a couple of kiosk style places. It's not nothing, but more limited than I would expect. However, the signage is very good and getting to your train doesn't seem to be an issue. The platforms are high so there is no huge step up to your train. As a terminal station for most trains it's also a great place to depart from as you typically get extra time to board.

They have automated ticketing kiosks that accept credit cards. Unfortunately, when I went and tried the English version, it still wasn't too clear, and apparently, I purchased too expensive of tickets for the route that I was taking. D'oh! I ended up getting told by the ticket taker on the train that I bought tickets that were more euro than what I needed. Oops! The train station is attached to a shopping mall, so there's places to grab a cup of coffee or grab some chocolate. All the platforms are outdoors, and it gets cold out there! They had stacks of salt stowed away to thaw out the platform when it freezes over. The station did have elevators leading to all the platforms, which was nice when travelling with luggage. I ended up departing from here to Munich. The train ran on time.

Across the street is a large station where you can catch a tram or bus. A little further down the road are the long distance bus station where you can catch busses to take you all across Europe. There is a large taxi stand out front of the main hall and cabs are always lined up ready to take you anywhere. There are of course ticket machines, but also a ticket office if you need help with trip planning or ticket purchases. There are plenty of restaurants and shops to hang out while you wait for your connections. A personal favorite of mine is the large bookstore. I shop there even if I am not travelling.
