Took the high speed bullet train from Roma to Milano. Amazing to be able to see the countryside…read morechange as we travelled from city to city. The Central Station is stunning. Love the 1930s architecture. It is the second busiest train station in Italy after Roma and is the largest train station in Europe by volume. The station is a blend of architectural styles including Art Deco and Liberty. Approximately 120 million passengers use the station annually. The station played a very sad role during the Holocaust. A secret track known as Binario 21 was created under the station to deport Jews to the concentration camps to be murdered at Auschwitz's death camp. 15 deportation trains left with 1200 victims. Only a handful survived. The tracks were mostly forgotten for decades after WWII. Today, it is the Holocaust Memorial in Milan. A very sad, but interesting place to remember victims of the Holocaust.

We purchased our bullet train tickets…read moreto Venice a day early at a machine but had difficulties with my credit card since I don't have a pin. Make sure you know your PIN number! I never had to use one before. I also had it in Apple Pay which doesn't require a pin but even it wasn't accepted. A customer service person arrived out of nowhere to assist and we attempted it on 3 machines but it wouldn't go through. Most restaurants have a handheld that they bring to the table and they will have you sign instead, if you don't have a PIN. I love how easy it was for us to first find the metro and purchase 3 day passes allowing up to travel pretty much everywhere we needed. We will return to pick up our rental car here as well.
