Blair House Heritage Breakfast Inn - The breakfast room.

Blair House Heritage Breakfast Inn

(4 reviews)

I reserve the 5 star rating…read more In order to get one from me you need to stand out. You need to want me thinking about returning almost as soon as I arrive. The Blair House most undoubtably deserves this rating, no question. A happen chance to find, we had to do a last minute drive from Halifax to St. Stephen and were too exhausted to make the return trip the same day. A combination of Tom Tom and Yelp said this little gem was less than 2km away from the border. No pictures, no reviews and no way of knowing what we'd find we gave a call. The owner David answered despite the lateness of the evening and said he indeed had one room available and we could come right on over. First off David may be one of the nicest people I've met in a long time. He didn't hesitate to spend a little time getting to know us even though it was well past "guest hours". At 9p at night he advised us to go out and find some food then return and take care of the paperwork...seriously who does that? The house. I won't even try to describe it. I can't do it justice. It's divine. Trust me. The room. We were given the only room on the main floor so I can't speak to the other rooms but this one was lovely. Queen size bed with super comfy bedding (the kind that makes you want to stay under covers all day). Extremely clean and stocked with those scratchy kind of towels you Canadians seem to love so much...oh the reason for the scratchiness? Yhea that's because they hang those towels out fresh on the line to dry all year round (as permissible). A lovely personal touch if you ask me. We woke up the next morning and sat down to a delicious home prepared breakfast of which David took before retiring the night previous. Didn't write a damn thing down and what do you know; everything came out just as we asked. You'll get your choice of grapefruit or fresh fruit cup (I had the fresh fruit with a dollop of greek yogurt). Then you'll either enjoy blueberry pancakes or a standard English breakfast of eggs, sausage, grilled mushroom, tomato and toast. Your meal will be topped off with coffee and a carafe of orange juice if you please. This place is the epitome of "Home sweet home". Other awesome things to know: * Tea is available 24 hrs/day * There will be a stash of cookies with said tea * This place won't break the bank (Summer rates are between $100-$120 / night) * Each room comes with a "faux" fire place * Cable TV/Wifi is provided for guest * Lots of nearby restaurants * The US/Canadian Border is less than 5 mins away.

I just noticed that there was only one review on this site. I have previously posted very positive…read morereviews for Blair House on TripAdvisor, but must not have done Yelp. It is a wonderful place to stay. It is very clean, comfortable, the breakfast is always outstanding, and Dave couldn't be more congenial. We stay here every time we go to and from Halifax or points further north. I highly recommend it.

Peggy & Murvin (the owners) were very friendly and inviting. The room was spacious and comfortable. We had freshly baked bread and home made jams with breakfast--which was delicious! The view from the room overlooks the Bay of Fundy and its really beautiful! It's about an hour drive to Saint John where you and catch the ferry to Nova Scotia. Theres not to much to do in the town of Saint George which is about 10 mins from the B&B but its a cute town and wonderful place to relax if your traveling the Canadian Coast. Wish we could have stayed longer!

The accommodations truly feel like visiting the grandparents' place, too - the rooms are in the lower level of the house, with a slight basement feel to it, but with a great entrance to the back yard that has chairs to sit and look at the bay (we even saw some seals). Unfortunately, the mosquitos can be a buzz kill to that serenity, so bring along some bug block, and pack in a bottle of wine or a few beers to sit and enjoy the view. The walls are a bit thin, but with only two rooms, the place doesn't get too rowdy. Breakfast was pleasant, and our hosts sat with us while we ate, which was nice to chat and learn more about the area. They are both born and raised natives of the area, and know the area quite well. This place is a great alternative to staying in St. John's, as it's only an hour away and in the direction of the border, if that's the way you need to be going. It only takes a few hours to get from here to Bangor, so it was a perfect place to stay after our ferry ride from Nova Scotia to break up the distance and time of traveling, and to avoid both Bangor and Saint John's for a more fresh-air stay for the night. However, please note that if you take the late afternoon ferry from Digby, you should stop and eat dinner in Saint John before coming this way. There are almost zero options of places to eat in the area.

You will never go wrong by choosing to spend some time at Brennan's…read more The rooms are elegant and comfortable, the beds are clouds that embrace you, and the hosts Noreen and John are the kindest sweetest people I may ever have met. The heated bathroom floors were a treat that I was not expecting in such a grand old home but that just proved to me once again that nothing is overlooked when it comes to their guests' comfort. Breakfast is always wonderful, and what delights me every time is that the people with whom we share the table are always interesting and delightful breakfast companions. If you are visiting Fredericton, treat yourself to Brennan's.

On par with Grey Gables, ("the place by which I will forever judge all other accommodations in…read moreevery possible category including price and atmosphere") Brennan's B&B is a beautiful old home located on the Saint John River within walking distance of the downtown area and all it has to offer. My girlfriend and I stayed in the King Suite which included an amazing bathroom with a huge Jacuzzi tub (Best. Bathtub. Ever.), fireplace, flat screen TV, kitchenette and super comfortable bed. The house is gorgeous inside and out and the hosts make you feel at home with helpful tips for what to do in the area and a genuine interest in your travels. The big breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, jams, ham and your choice of eggs. If you need to stay in the Fredericton area, do yourself a favor and look no further than Brennan's, you won't regret it.

With that said, construction and maintenance was a daily thing. Our room was comfortable and had a porch. It badly needed painting. Construction on a path below our room was ongoing into the evening. Did not try all the dining venues but what we had was great ie fish and chips, mussels, artichoke dip, Canadian beers and gin and tonics. Beautiful views, recreation included 2 pools, fitness room and bikes. Staff was very polite outgoing and attentive. Would love to return.

My room is a lot lot smaller..,,it is very nice and clean. But who doesn't put a closet in a hotel room?!!!!! There's nowhere for me to hang any of my clothes. I am on a work trip and I have to hang up nice shirts and dresses. There's nowhere for me to put anything except for two drawers. And No ironing board??? I mean... Do they want me to have to call down there and ask for someone to bring it to me so then I have to spend $10 and tip somebody? No. also, the amenities in the room are very lacking. There's one teeny little thing of body lotion and a little small bar of soap. Usually at least you get some cotton balls and some Q-tips :-) there is a coffee maker but no to-go cups so I can't take it in the car. Then I was starving and when I got here and checked in at the front desk, I was told that I could order from Braxton's and take it up to my room and I could not wait to get a steak, but they wouldn't even let me take a steak to my room. Their response was no you can sit at a table but we can't let you take anything to go. The steak would not be good by the time you got it up to the room and would not be the right temperature. Wait what? I'm on the second floor. The hotel is very small. It's two seconds to my room. And what about what if I want that?! I said i didn't care if it's a little warm when I get it to my room. I said I wanted a steak. And you're not gonna let me take it to my room? I don't understand. I did not want to socialize. I've been traveling all day. I did not want to have to clean up and sit in a loud public place. I just wanted a good steak and a Caesar salad. So I had to order room service, which has maybe 5 entrees to choose from. Lastly- When I called about two weeks ago and asked since I've been in marriott bonvoy customer since 2008 if they could upgrade me to a balcony room (and for context last time i did not have any trouble doing that - they upgraded me with no )....this time they told me that they would have to charge me $150 more a night to do that. Good thing that the company is paying for this because if I was, I'd be furious.
