Let me start by saying the resort and their people are wonderful. This is a rustic little city with a quaint atmosphere with serene views as far as the eye can see. The cottages and boathouse are nested away a beautiful shoreline that incases Lake Simcoe. Here's where we met Andrew; an amazing chef at the Briars that would give Emerald and Bobby Flay a run for the money. Andrew created a fabulous dinner with an amazing presentation, phenomenal service; enough to challenge the best NY restaurants! Pay homage to a great chef, before he is sought out by the big restaurant owners of Ontario, New York or abroad, and disappears from this little non descript hideaway. Cheers to the Briars for holding on to this amazing talent.

Calamari was not the freshest but had a decent level of freshness. The breading was nice, with a touch of spice, & it was fried pretty well. It wasn't served with lemon but 2 sauces, both creamy. Freedom burger with blue cheese & onion was good. It was juicy, with a good flame grill taste. The cheese was generous & very strong. Steak wrap was tasty, with a lot going on inside. There was a good amount of steak. The exterior was grilled for added aesthetic appeal & flavour. The fries were good: hearty & garnished with parsley & other herbs. Our recent stay at Friday Harbour was unfortunately very disappointing. We stayed in the Beech unit…read moreand booked directly on their website. From the moment we arrived, the experience was frustrating. The unit was difficult to locate, making check-in more stressful than it should have been. One of the biggest disappointments was the pool policy. Guests are limited to one two-hour pool session per day, and when the pool was closed during our scheduled time, there was no alternative booking, compensation, or accommodation offered. The unit itself was not properly equipped for the number of guests we booked. We reserved the unit for three people, but there was only enough dishware for two, and the pull-out couch didn't have a duvet or extra blankets, making it uncomfortable for the third guest. To make matters worse, the Wi-Fi did not work for our entire stay. We contacted the Welcome Centre in the morning and were told someone would come to assist, but the issue was never resolved. When we reached out again about the missing bedding and other concerns, we were told these were the responsibility of the unit owner and that the Welcome Centre could not help. Since we booked through Friday Harbour, we expected better support regardless of who owned the unit. Please keep in mind, if it rains, there is essentially nothing to do on the property. After we explained our various frustrations to customer service, we were fortunately refunded 50% of our stay, which helped. Overall, the lack of communication, unresolved issues, and poor customer service made this stay far below our expectations. While Friday Harbour is a beautiful property, our experience was overshadowed by these problems. We hope management improves both guest support and quality control so future visitors have a much better experience.

There are also plenty of lights at night. Cell phone reception and mobile data reception is poor at some spots. Most vendor have free WiFi. There is site-wide free WiFi but when we were there, you can connect but the internet connection didn't work. A few restaurants are quite expensive. Some clothing and interior design shops are extremely expensive. All vendors charge a 3% resort fee that goes to the resort for cleaning the exterior and public washrooms. The vendors also pay the resort and additional fee. There is free WiFi. The promenade is wheelchair accessible. There are some separate male/female washrooms. Once in room was looking to get some ice and found the area where the ice bucket was nasty. I will attach pics but they didn't capture all of it well. The sink had old food (egg) stuck to the drain, coffee maker was full of dust and grime. Ironed my clothes and thankfully was ironing blue slacks because rust came pouring out of the iron. I went to the front desk the next morning to let and showed them pictures (manager present) and they said they would take care of it and apologized. Upon arrival that evening a housekeeper had been in my room and straightened the bed but did not touch the gross items. I notified the front desk on the way out again and they said thank you. I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel if you are in Barrie. Very nasty.

I booked this after wanting to book the local holiday in and I guess with their take back to room host serve, prices moved 1.5X. Very frankly I was hesitant to book this after reviews were suggesting the place was tremendously mismanaged because of (maybe) short staffing during this pandemic. There were reviews about amenities just not available but the pool seemed to be operating. On arrival, the check in was easy, the room was okay, inspected the bathroom, checked the space it was okay. When you look into detail, the sheets are riddled with holes, there are "mystery stains" in the comforter, there are yellow stains on the bathroom wall paper, there are mosquitos in the room to suck you dry. Towels were rough, not soft. The breakfast buffet was typical. For a Hilton brand, I guess I expected something a little more than typical but acceptable. Only feedback was the options were not very diabetic friendly-that's bread option was whole wheat and white Texas toast and white bagels. The muffins were "plastic bag" stuff you would see in the states at low tier hotels. Really my diabetic travel companion could only eat whole wheat toast? The eggs were with cheese, with hame and red paper (so pretty much not halal) and pork sausages or pork sausage patty. The oatmeal was made in a pot for patrons to self serve, did not touch it, it was Covid -and not sure if sugar was added. The green cheese option was only whole fat and yogurt was only whole fat options. Juice was not fresh squeeze like some Hilton locations, it was your concentrated bags diluted. Parking was easy to get to, air conditioning worked. This hotel is not far from Tyndale park. Rating 4 - room was okay, -1 star for wall stains(of what I could see) Rating 2 - cleanliness and quality of sheets, towels (sheets had stains and holes) Rating 2 - limited food selection for breakfast. The local Holiday Inn had more breakfast selection, I would bet the comfort inn would have better selection too.
