First, there is a cat walking around the shop. For framing, I imagine one would want a cleaner environment. Second, when I showed her the poster and she set it down, the surface she set it on did not look clean and I was worried my poster would get dirty. She pulled down frame samples and set them next to the picture. The colors of the artwork were a bit unusual so matching them was challenging. I asked if I could take down some samples and she had no problem with that, which was nice. In the end, we both agreed one I chose was the best fit. She asked if I needed it in less than two weeks and I said no. She gave me the option of paying half or all. I paid for all of it. Three weeks later, I called to check on my poster. She said she had been meaning to call me, that it was ready. I went to the shop the next day to pick it up. I looked it over and there was a red fuzz under the glass, right in the center under the text at the lower part of the gray and white poster. I pointed it out. She asked if I had a minute. She took a razor blade and cut open the back which had been sealed shut with one solid piece of paper. She pulled out the nails, and swiped a turkey feather under the glass until it was out. She then mentioned she is usually looking for cat hair. New nail holes were put in the wood frame and double sided tape was used to seal the not sliced paper back up. I was mildly displeased but when she said, "That should keep the dust and bugs out" I became distressed. Clearly having a solid back sealed shut is important. I had been so excited to present this gift but now I had a heavy heart. I had to wait a few hours to unveil it because I didn't want my upset to ruin the gift-giving moment. So there you have it. It pains me to write this review because I did want to love this quirky place and if this wasn't the second review, I'd probably give 2 stars. I'm not sure if I should have asked to have the entire back re-papered but I wish she had offered. There are lots of beautiful things in the shop, shadow boxes and other stuff. I'm sure lots of people had great results, but this was my experience.

They often involve a DJ/ live band, dancing and it's basically like an awesome house party where there is also art. There are also lots of little trinkets / art you can purchase here. I bought a framed "BUFFALO" photographer that spells BUFFALO out of different cropped landmarks (such as the Richardson-Olmsted Complex, etc). The art was by Brian of FacesofBuffalo -- really cool stuff. Lots of other local art that you can buy as gifts / decor from your house. They also offer studio space for artists for rent. Cool spot!

I kept hearing their name…read more It seemed that everywhere I went 464 Gallery was mentioned, had a place card, or someone was talking about it. My first "exposure" to it was actually at another opening at the Burchfield, I mentioned that I had been to a show in NYC and the conversation quickly turned to "Have you seen what's up now at 464?" I had not, was not even sure where to find 464 Gallery. I heard about the owner, Marcus, during that conversation. That he was focused on providing a space for shows, but also a space for artists to work, 464 Studio. Sadly, I did not go and seek out 464 then. I should have. I read about them next in ARTVoice one week, and thought again I have to go to this place. Then I saw the address and realized it was located on Amherst, just near Wegmans & Lucys, both places I frequent. Then I went to City of Light and talked to an artist who has an upcoming show at 464. And saw that they were major influences at the Silo City event as well. Then they were at Elmwood Art Festival. And I saw the sign for the new spot called Glow on Allen, which opens in a few weeks. Off I went, finally. Found parking, easily, on the street. It's a nice space on Amherst, 2 rooms, lots of different artists work for sale when I went. Some I liked, some not as much, but all local and all interesting in some way. Marcus happened to be there and so we chatted for some time. He opened a few years ago in Blackrock. He said that he does a lot of "events" and the like, which is where a lot of his business comes from, not to mention that fact that his Gallery is on everyone's tongue. Like me he has noticed how much Blackrock is picking up, even in the past year, and hes thrilled by that of course. He lives in the area as well. Galleries can be very hit or miss. You like the show or you don't. Its really that simple. Hes done it a little differently, his gallery does shows, does events, and sells pieces from locals. He does a little of everything. I'm looking forward to going to Glow in a few weeks for an event there as well. I go to a lot of Galleries, large and small, wherever I happen to find myself. I have always enjoyed them. This is one that is committed to the city, the craft, the artists and the community. Its really a "whole package" kind of place, and that's really nice. Marcus is himself a photographer, but he does show other artists' photography in his space. He is an incubator of talent in many ways. He promotes himself of course, but he promotes others as well. Overall this is a Gallery to watch, and I'm sure Glow (on Allen) will be as well.

The K Art Gallery just opened to the public, and is a "Native American owned commercial art gallery…read morewith a primary and robust focus on national-level Native contemporary artists." It's the first of its kind in the U.S. The art gallery spans over two floors, and is also used as a shared workspace. For the shared workspaces, there is table seating (with dividers), offices, and a video conference room. It would feel great to work in a space like this surrounded by art, I would feel very creative and inspired! I came with a friend to see the current exhibit titled "More than a Trace". Currently, you need to book a reservation online prior to visiting, and sign a covid waiver upon entry. There is no admission charge. Although I checked out some of the art in the exhibition on their website prior to visiting, I really enjoyed seeing it up close and having the chance to reflect on each piece. Although this is contemporary art, there were a few pieces that had strong historical ties, including the Treaty of the Seneca, and Antipode (Study in Dusty Rose). Overall I would highly recommend visiting this gallery if you enjoy art, and the opportunity to see work by contemporary Native American artists. This space is on the side, no Main Street facing storefront. However, once you find it, and park your car (in the large easy spaces they have), you will be thrilled. First, Freddie (Frankie?) will meet you at the door. She's (yes, she, name notwithstanding) a fabulously beautiful dog. Midsize and super friendly. You don't have to be a dog lover to appreciate her. Once inside past her "gate" the space is surprisingly large. Lots of material on display and then a large room in back with all sorts of quilts and quilters. The quilts were on the wall and the quilters at the table. It seemed like a friendly group. The material is displayed mostly by color, but there is a "fun pattern section" too. I was there to pick up a "row by row" pattern for someone. They have them behind the counter waiting to be asked for. If I were a quilter Id come back here for sure. I may come back to get some material for pillows we are making for the outside furniture.
