I am a member of Asian Sun and although I typically attend classes at the Green, OH location, I…read morehave been up to the Brecksville-Broadview Heights location on occasion. The facilities are very large, open, and very clean! The staff (Master Plain and his assistant instructors) are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! They push you hard to do your best and succeed! As a matter of fact, if it were not for Master Green, former head instructor and manager of the Green, OH location (he moved out of state or he would still be there!) and Master Plain of this location, I would not have the knowledge, skills, and discipline required of me to earn my 1st Dan Blackbelt back in December 2017! All Asian Sun locations practice the WTF format (World Taekwondo Federation) under the tutelage of world class instructor 8th Degree Master Andrachik. This particular location offers children and family classes, as well as Tiger Tots for the littles, children's only classes, and classes specifically for children 10 and under. In the mornings (M-R & S) they offer either TRX Body Blast or Cardio Fit Kickboxing, depending on the day. On the weekends they also offer Cho Dan Bo and Blackbelt only classes, Blackbelt Club classes, and Level 1 Team training! If it's your first time trying out Taekwondo, I suggest you call and make an appointment so you can get one-on-one attention from Master Plain, however, they do not mind if you drop in and ask about their classes!

Asian Sun in Broadview Heights was awesome until this week. The former teacher Master Plain was…read moreawesome with the tiger tots!! He was commanded respect yet the tiger tots learned a lot and really had fun. The kids used to be engaged the entire class. The new teacher that started this week has made going to Asian Sun unbearable. There is far less skills being taught to the tiger tots now then with Master Plain. Class now consists of students sitting for much more of the class with a major underutilization of the other helpers in the class. In the past students would be broken into groups based on ability and split between the different teachers. Now the other teachers just sit with the students as one student at a time is participating in an activity. Honestly I believe Asian Sun could go back to being a great place for tiger tots however not with the current teacher. Update: I am glad we received a refund and can move on to a new place that will continue the progress we saw under Master Plain. The owner seems like a nice guy, but he is blinded by his loyalty to the new teacher. Yes the new teacher has many accolades in the martial arts world, however that does not make you a good teacher or coach. I am very thankful for everything Master Plain did for my son! I know we will not find another Master Plain. I wish him all the best as he moves on unfortunately for Asian Sun I believe many other people will now leave now. I truly believe the new teacher could have learned a lot from Master Plain when she shadowed however her ego got in the way.

His patience is legendary, we started attending…read moreKarate when my son was a very rambunctious 4 year old and I was concerned my son wouldn't be able to stick with the program because he was a rowdy little guy, but Shihan never once lost his patience and helped my son practice regularly. We are now 3 years into lessons and I recommend the program highly. Its a great way to stay on a consistent schedule in the summer and to get out of the house in the winter. From a practical view: there's lots of class times across the week, a weekly e-newsletter you have regular access to updates, there are regular belt promotions that give students small goals. Shihan also has students work on weekly goals and has them work on positive mantras while they are younger. Like "I will always try my best." Personally, while we started the program when my son turned 4, he's now 7 and still enjoys Karate. He practices katas which are series of moves in a row (like 10-12) they take weeks to practice and offer my son a great way to practice his left/right and focusing on his foot positions or his stances. Due to his early access to these classes he easily takes to new spaces, over the summer he participated in wrestling summer camps. These were completely new for him but because he was already in the practice of working with students, teachers and sensais he took to the camps easily. He didn't hesitate and take a ton of time being shy in the space but instead was confident and even understood physical boundaries with other students. He knew how to practice wrestle with little instruction. He even volunteered to go in front of the group to practice moves.
