NCE in general offers so many classes, many language, skill learning, physical education, technical etc that there is really something for everyone. Their prices are very very reasonable (if you are thinking about learning a language look to NCE first - the others are very expensive). Our classroom was on W Charlotte in an old high school that was turned into a learning center, air conditioned, easy parking, a very nice learning environment. It is sponsored by the City of Nashville, and you can see their quarterly classes on line and download a quarterly education catalog (spring, summer, fall, winter). NCE is a great low-risk, low-cost way to finally get out and learn something new!

They have trained counselors that work 24/7 to tackle abuse. They have support groups, outreach and advocacy, transitional housing and other resources. They also provide free GED education to men and women and mentor middle school girls. They try to educate and encourage and break down barriers of racism, violence, and hopelessness. They also started 2 new programs in 2013 that try to help individuals (after having moved out of abusive households to safety) to go to the next step of self-sufficiency. They typically needed to practice speaking and reading English and were highly motivated. Sure, $320 a month isn't cheap,…read morebut breaking it down into a weekly lesson and a band rehearsal actually amortizes pretty well. I walked into my trial lesson fully intending to sign up. I wanted private instruction to help me move past the intermediate plateau--learning the fretboard deeply rather than just robotically regurgitating tabs. Unfortunately, the trial was highly disorganized. While the instructor was a skilled player, he ran a complex exercise that didn't match the baseline I had explicitly laid out. Instead of pivoting when I clearly struggled, we just burned through the clock. Worst of all, we spent zero time on what is supposed to be the core School of Rock curriculum: breaking down specific song parts to learn the technicals. Just as we were finally about to start, he ended the lesson early. Assuming the trial lesson was meant to mirror a regular lesson, I was shorted a significant chunk of the advertised time. This place seems excellent for beginners, and I'd highly recommend it for kids. But the onboarding for adults needs work. When I gave honest, non-harsh feedback to the studio manager about my experience, the response was a rigid ultimatum: no further trials, but I could pay $65 for an extra lesson or just commit to a full month to "see how it feels." I might still roll the dice on a month because the performance-based concept is incredibly cool, but hitting a warm lead with a low-effort cash grab after a provably bad first impression isn't great salesmanship. It feels like a massive risk to drop that much cash on a "maybe."

I like the safe and nurturing environment for my kids as well. The owner is very hands on and because she is a mom I know she gets it. I like that she treats my kids like her own and runs a tight ship. The only blip was when she hired a GM from another music program who was rude and just didn't get it but they fixed that issue quickly and the program is moving forward once again. I would highly recommend taking your kids to any of the Schools of Rock here in this area - they are top notch in every way and I love the shows.

After sitting through the half-day class, I learned that I didn't know much about the markets. This school really put it into perspective for me. I had no idea about most of the things that money managers do to cheat you out of money. After seeing how it works and learning a few other things I didn't know, I decided to come to the 3-day orientation. Wow!! Talk about not knowing anything. I thought I learned something from the half-day class, this 3-day orientation was a lot more. At this point I knew I had found something that not many people would come into contact with. Sure there are programs and other things you can do to learn about the markets, but none of those programs had an actual campus...and 48 of them worldwide. I decided this was for me and became a student. It has taught me so much about how the financial markets work and I now can say that I am a trader. Great education, great atmosphere, great instructors, and great people all around.

So, it goes like this... You listen to their weekly, uplifting (infomercial) radio show which…read moremotivates you to try the free one day class. You arrive and are greeted by warm, friendly "counselors" who make you and the other attendees feel like part of a wonderful family. The class is lead by a strong motivational speaker who tells stories of how he used to work for an investment firm that made its clients tons of money while at the same time, he was just getting by. He leaves the firm, signs up for an OTA course and bam, now he makes tons of money and has secured his family's legacy. No actual useful trading information is shared during the 6 hour class but it is motivational and fun and there are breaks and refreshments. Several hours before the class (infomercial) is over, a flyer is passed out which invites you to take the first step towards financial freedom by signing up for the three day class. The price is $300 but the speaker stresses that the fee is there to weed out the people who aren't serious and end up not showing up after reserving limited class space AND it's totally refundable if you ultimately decide not to sign up after the three days. Cool. Before attending the three day class, you fill out a questionnaire that details your goals and motivation o join OTA. Your counselor will call you a few days later to discuss this information with you. The three day class is lead by a wonderful motivational speaker who flew in from Los Angles. The guy is great. He's articulate, funny and certainly seems to be an investment expert as he explains and demonstrates the patented OTA method. He even trades live and makes money while allowing select students to help make decisions with his money. Was that real? There's no way to tell but again, it was fun, entertaining and motivating. The class breaks for the free included lunch (sub sandwiches) and students are called in for personal meetings with their counselors. The end of day one leaves you very motivated and though you can't pinpoint having gain any real knowledge about trading, you are confident and excited. The second day of the three day class is more of the same until mid day when a new flyer is passed out. This time it's serious. There are three packages for sale and the prices range from 22k to 59k. Soon after, students are pulled out of class for private, closed door discussions with their "counselors" who lean in pretty hard to obtain a down payment with the promise that if you lay down at least 1000 today, they can probably offer a "scholarship" which would reduce the cost a few k. I told my guy that I had planned to finish the three days before I committed to such an investment which did not go over well at all. He was visibly not happy with me. The rest of the day was pretty uncomfortable as signees we hailed and applauded and those who left were quietly termed "quitters". When the class was over my counselor called me into his office one more time. At this point I was so overwhelmed by the motivational peer pressure I conceded and handed over a thousand dollar down payment. The following morning I woke with a clear head and realizing that 22k (or even 17k with the so called scholarship) was an insane price for a 5 day... yeah, five day class so I drove to class early and told my guy I wasn't taking the course. He had the nerve to say, "okay... let me go get a quitter form." The "quitter" form was actually a refund form and to their credit, OTA did refund my entire $1300 after I returned all the classroom literature which was required. Later I did some research and found that their patented techniques aren't really that unique and there are plenty of educational videos and teachers who use the same basic principles. It's not magic and you don't have to lose $17k before you even make your first trade. Also there's no excuse for their peer pressure based sales technique to get your money. That is just creepy.

Enjoyed my first Italian class at Cohn that was sponsored by Nashville continuing education…read more The building appears to be an old high school the have repurposed. It is easy to get to with lots of parking in front and on side roads. We were in basement classroom and the room was showing signs of wear with crumbling wood and paint around the windowsills. All in all a good experience and nice enough rooms and clean building overall.

We visited Trevecca Nazarene University to attend the Tara-Leigh Cobble "Bible Recap Live" event…read morelast Saturday. I believe it was held in the Boone Convocation Center. The venue itself appeared to hold about 800 people or maybe 1000. There was a good-sized crowd in attendance! The lobby was small. The patrons were primarily women. There were several decent sized monitors hung throughout the venue; however, Tara-Leigh Cobble and the activities (trivia, other people talking, etc.) were not projected on the screens. Also, there was no stage, no elevated area for the star, Tara-Leigh Cobble, to stand on, and the seats were stadium-like in that they were slightly elevate. Anyway, getting a good line of sight to the stage was not easy. Because it was female-centered, the women's restroom quickly got messy, with water dripping all over the floor, paper towel dispensers crapped out, etc. It would have been nice to have folded paper towers in baskets beside each sink vice having to walk with dripping hands to the wall mounted dispensers that quit functioning early in the night. Were all the amenities I prefer available at this venue? No. It looked like the "convention center" (my words) was adjacent to a dining hall. There were no food, drinks, or adult beverages available at this event. No food trucks, nothing. This was understood prior to attending, as they advertised you could tailgate in the parking lot as maybe a dozen or so were doing, when we arrived. The campus was clean, parking was ample, and the few staff we engaged with were kind. Did I enjoy Tara-Leigh Cobble? Absolutely! Was her show well executed? It was! Would I attend again if it were held at Trevecca? Yes; however, I would prefer more creature comforts. There was a 15-minute intermission with absolutely nothing to do, except browse Tara-Leigh Cobble's merchandise, most of which is available online.
