The staff here is amazing! They are incredibly helpful and will jump through hoops to get you started in the program that is right for you. They are also willing to work with you regarding job/scheduling issues to make the program work for you. Moreover, they care about your success and prepare you for the necessary certification exams for both the Allied Health and the Practical nursing programs. I taught at IOT seven years ago and it had it's challenges. I returned in July 2020, during COVID-19, as the Nursing Administrator. Despite the world's current state of pandemic, the instructors and leadership team are working ever so hard to create a new way of learning through social distancing and virtual education. Nearby schools, similar to IOT, have closed down (without notice) and we have taken in another 50% of our usual student population, to allow those students the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Nurses are needed now and will be even more in the future. I give IOT five stars today for the growth that has occurred in the last couple months and in foresight of what is happening currently, to better the community and the medical field, change lives, and grow students into competent, capable, professionals who will provide safe and conscientious patient care. read more

When I enrolled I was told that by completing the program and getting my certificate I would be able to get a job in ANY medical office. Not the case. I have a certificate of completion in Medical Administrative Assistant and in order to get a job in the offices that I've looked into they want an Associates or a Bachelors degree as well as medical office experience. I regret that I wasted both my time and money attending this school. I now have a very expensive piece of paper and no job. Finished the program in August 2012. read more

This school is the ONLY regret I have in my life!!! It was the worst school ever, it felt like a prison ran buy unqualified and unprofessional medical assistants!!! This for profit school will suck the life out of you. Lets start with the biggest issue we had to take tests BUT the "teachers" GAVE us the test answers 2 weeks BEFORE the test! So that we can study... I didn't learn anything from this school. On top of the loans I had to take out I had to pay OUT OF POCKET 80$ a month to the school. For what.... ( I dont know) They had also promised to cover the cost of my CMA test at the end and told me I needed to pay 200$!!! On top of it I am still in contact with people I studied with and more then half are either unemployed or working some where else. Once I finished up the "school" I was told by the director that I could be place for a internship in Salem because I do not have a car. Well... low and behold they try to sent me to Portland and then tell me that its my fault I dont have a car. The actually took me out of class to have talk with me and told me to rent a car! After throwing a fit they did place me in a internship.... wait for the kicker! The internship was NOT as a MA it was for a CNA at a rehab home. So I gave people water and food for 40 hours a week oh and mopped the floor! So after all that I was still determined to get a job I went to 5 interview in Salem before i threw in the towel. I was told "what school? Iv never heard of that school", " we dont take students from that school they are unqualified" and "we generally like to take interns from Chemeketa or Ect..." Okay so now you have heard my time, now let you tell me a friend of minds time.... he was KICKED out at the very end he even walked in the so called graduation ceremony. He still had not done his internship and he too is with out a car.... so they set up interviews after interviews and he said he cant make it. So they finally set him up in some shitty office doing nothing at all just cleaning out paper and making things look nice. He did this for a week and complained and said he wants a place where he can use his skills and they kicked him out of not showing up to his site to "work" NOT TO mention a teacher called him out once and said... "I thought since you where a man we wouldn't have these issues with you.." Now im in a real college really learning. This was what I experienced at this school. I whent to this school twice and the second time was a much more better experience all around. I attended the HVAC program and the new Director of that program Erik was awesome. They made the entire program less intimidating for people like me who had no HVAC experience. The schedule was even better the second time around. Everything was good, until due to financial reasons I could not attend.. because I had to defer a MOD already because I was working on my hs diploma, they said if I wanted to come back I would need to get it approved, and she highly doubted it would be approved since I had to defer the first MOD. Not only did this all happen but also the loan that they took out for me to go to school has to be repaid even though I can't go to school there. They are a for profit school, and after I emailed them letting them know I wouldn't be coming back, all the replies I have been getting are rude. I would save yourself the hassle and money and go to Chemeketa. read more

I also received my LPN at IOT and I'm going to give the most fair review I can. Pros: *Your classes are all relevant to your work. No bs prerequisites like music appreciation or history. Your classes touch on these things, but it's all relevant to your job. *It's only one year. I had to give up the RN program I was in after I found out I was pregnant. Hubby and I agreed on one year more of in-class, so I took this route. *You will pass your NCLEX. The entire program has tests that are essentially NCLEX questions. For me, the NCLEX was ridiculously easy after this program. *There are people there who want you to pass, and will help you do so any way they can. There are good teachers and there are bad teachers. But you can believe if nothing else that their accreditation is determined by their pass rate. They want you to pass. * They work with you. My son had to have surgery during my second term and I missed two weeks of school. They worked with me to make up my clinical hours and get my homework turned in, etc. Not every "traditional" nursing school would do that. * Bad grades are not the end of the world. Some nursing schools kick you out if you biff a test. I'm awful at school, but good at hands-on application. Now for the cons. *Cost. It costs the average LPN 12,000 dollars to become an LPN, bs classes and all. It costs 30,000 at IOT. The debt-to-income ratio is ridiculous. And I am now paying for my BSN out of pocket because my debt is too high for further assistance with school. *Treatment. There are good teachers and other employees. But there are also bad ones. Once you're stuck in a contract, they can treat you any way they want. They can be rude, condescending and downright disrespectful. And some of them are. One girl had a private email forwarded to the entire class. I asked for a new clinical site after I realized I had gotten NO real practical experience during my three terms of clinicals and was refused because "you'll get it on the job." Sadly, I was so clueless, I lost my first job because nursing homes are not exactly kind to the learning curve. By the same standard, I can't believe that some of their students are allowed to talk to the teachers and to each other the way they do. The blatant disrespect sickened me. I can only assume that no one was kicked out because it would mess with their numbers as a for-profit school. * For 30 thousand dollars, you'd think you get a bit more updated equipment to practice on. The instructors did their best with what they have, but you can only do so much when you can't keep the practice dummy's genitals in place for foley insertion and your IV pump is 20-30 years old. * Nothing transfers. This means credits. It's one of the devils of trade school. Your credits mean nothing anywhere else. So if you want to get your BSN or RN, you're still going to have to do those bs classes, or spend another 60 grand on another trade school because I have yet to find an LPN-to-RN trade school in Oregon. So there you go. That's the most honest review I can give. There are pros and cons, like every other school and, like every other school, you need to do your research ahead of time and make certain you know what you're getting into. If you want to get your LPN fast and don't have the option of traditional school like I didn't, it's a great option. Just realize that you're going to have to be assertive for certain aspects of your education, and be prepared for the likelihood that some of your classmates will entirely forget that they are grown adults. read more

I would not recommend IOT AT ALL! Their MA program is very expensive and I really regret paying these people so much for the poor training I received. I was lucky enough to get a job after graduation where I worked with some amazing people and received a lot of on-the-job training because I sure felt lost and incompetent after school. There are far superior and less expensive programs out there and I would highly recommend researching those before applying here. You will be much better off, believe me. Zero stars for this school. I just recently graduated from IOT, at the beginning of this month. I learned a lot during my time at iot. The teachers were very knowledgable and we're always willing to help. I am waiting to take my NCLEX next month, and feel like the knowledge I learned will help me become successful. read more

If you are looking for an LPN program near Salem, OR, then look at other schools. At this IOT the instruction takes place in a building that used to be a shooting range. The indoor climate is chilly and the rooms are devoid of windows. It has the institutional feel of a prison. The program has been very chaotic. Materials and grading policies have been changed and changed again mid-semester. It would be more reassuring to be standing on shifting sand in a windstorm. A student does not finish with lecture classes until she graduates. Consequently, the student nurse is divided between two worlds. In one arena she is working with living people and expected to perform in a competent manner. In the other arena she is taking six classes to acquire critical nursing knowledge. She takes home schoolwork from the six classes and is also piled with a binder of paperwork from her time spent in the field. The program was erected in this fashion to make it simple to fill staff vacancies paying a minimal salary and giving investors a boost. A person could attend the LPN program at IOT Salem and still turn out to be a skilled and knowledgeable nurse, but for $30K this school should be on the bottom of the list. read more
