They weren't friendly or welcoming and seemed much more attentive to regulars or people they knew. They took the seller's ID right away, but only checked my information much later. They then denied the PPT because my California driver's license was missing a space in my last name, even though my passport card and FSC showed my correct legal name. They explicitly stated that the ATF does not allow this exact situation, but four other FFLs had no issue with the same documents and I could not find any ATF guidance supporting that claim. It felt like an excuse rather than a legitimate requirement. Had I been buying directly from them instead of bringing in a $10 PPT, I doubt this would have been handled the same way. I won't be returning.

Daniel was a great instructor who made the class interesting and easy to follow. He gave excellent instruction and we felt safe when we went to the live shooting portion. He gave me a few tips and techniques that definitely helped as I continued to familiarize myself with my new pistols. When it was time to take my CCW course, I returned to Daniel and things went great as well. The class is twice the length, but he was still able to keep it entertaining and engaging. The only thing I'd change is when it comes to the mental health portion. He makes it known that he doesn't like the fact that he has to teach that portion because he's not a mental health expert. He's not a lawyer, but has no issue teaching the legal portions. He's not a health expert but brings someone in to discuss dressing wounds, tourniquets, etc. So it would be nice to have him embrace the importance of the mental health portion of the class. Outside of that, the class is great! If you're looking for a basic pistol course or getting your CCW, I highly recommend Daniel and First Step Shooting.

And I was also going to the range enough to get frustrated at how I was stuck at my skill level and knew I needed training. With that, it's difficult to explain how much better, more confident, and comfortable I am with a firearm since I started training with Edmond (OJ). His expertise in the field is apparent immediately, and he has a resume that is hard to beat. But that's half of it. He's a great teacher who has the master-level talent of identifying your skill level, correcting mistakes, and patiently pushing you to a higher level than you thought was possible in yourself. And you can double everything I said about CCW training. If you have a CCW license, but you're uneasy about the concept of carrying it in public, I cannot express how important good training will be to you and how much OJ has helped me.

I used to hate it when my husband would get his gun out to practice with his fake bullets or clean it or something, but now I'll do a couple of practices with him. So now, while I wouldn't say I'd be "excited" about a day at the range, I'll at least go in somewhat knowing what I'm doing and have some fun, which is a huge difference from a few months ago, when I wouldn't even go at all. As an instructor and human, Dave is patient, kind, and funny. This kind of class can be intense- a firearms instructor needs to walk a fine line between being supportive and encouraging, but also making sure people know what they're doing so they don't hurt themselves. Dave is able to balance that well. He knows when to explain, when to show, and when to let the student try it out. He also seems to know when he can encourage a student a bit more to reach the next level of skill and when to back off. He definitely knows guns, but he knows people, too! Good combination in a firearms instructor.

She took the time to go over the different classes available through American Defense Enterprises, Inc. and helped me figure out which one would be the best fit for my experience level. I had some basic shooting experience but had never drawn from a holster, so she recommended Combat Handgun Course 1. I took the class on 8/23/26, and there were only four people in our group, which made it such a comfortable learning environment. Our instructor, Sayaka, was amazing--extremely knowledgeable, funny, patient, and an absolute badass with a very impressive background! I went in not really knowing what to expect, but by the end of the day I felt like I had known her and the other women in the class for years. I'm also left-handed, which can make finding the right gear a little more difficult. They took the time to find me a left-handed holster that actually fit my firearm so I could participate fully in the course. Paula was training another group that day, but she still checked on us throughout the course and made sure we had water and electrolytes. We were training in 100-degree weather, and she was definitely the mama bear making sure everyone stayed safe and hydrated! Those little things are what really stood out to me. I originally found the Girls Gun Club because I wanted a place where I could train with other women and feel comfortable learning without being intimidated. That is exactly what I found. Everyone was welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, while still providing serious firearms training.
