Location, location, location. Perfect spot for launching some sightseeing in Bordeaux. Lovely old hotel, very accommodating and experienced staff. We stayed on the fourth floor, a very quiet room. Room was reasonably sized and had a few quirks often found in European hotels.. toilet room on one side of the room and the tub and sink room on the other side of our room. We liked the roof top bar and the morning breakfast buffet. Would absolutely stay here again. read more

This hotel is very centrally located in the heart of the historic center of Bordeaux. It is directly across from the opera house and is in a beautiful historic building as well. Upon arriving, we received a code so that we could drive to the front of the hotel (there are barriers if you don't have a number). The valet took and parked our car, which made check in easier. The check in was a delight. We received an upgrade from the junior suite to a superior suite, which has a bedroom, living room, 4 closets, a bathroom, shower room, and 2 WCs. There were blackout curtains and it was very quiet. In addition, the gentleman who checked us in told us that he is from Bordeaux and let us know that we could ask him or the concierge for any restaurant or itinerary recommendations. The concierge is top notch. I developed a very painful toothache the first night here. The following morning, I asked for a recommendation for a dentist. He booked me an appointment WITHIN AN HOUR at a nearby dentist who spoke English within a 5 minute walk to the hotel (although I speak intermediate French, I could not have adequately described my symptoms). The breakfast buffet had lots of options and they were tasty. I wish the cappuccinos were a little bit stronger but that is the only tiny complaint I have about this hotel. We are enjoying our stay. I didn't stay just had drinks at their cafe to use their bathroom. Very chic, snooty, and exclusive. Spent 60 euros for Ginger ale, tea, and some pasteries. Felt pretty elite using their bathroom, which I might add, was very nice. After pooping I felt special. Highly recommend for average class to spend little money and experience how the rich deficate, worth every Euro! read more

This is one of my favorite hotels. We stayed here in the summer of 2021. It is centrally located and is walking distance to many shops, restaurants and sites. We had a suite and upon entering the first day, we had a greeting card from the manager along with complimentary snacks, fruits and beverages. The room was spacious and beautiful. The walk in closet was enormous. The separate living room was comfortable and stylish. Don't skip a visit to the rooftop to see stunning views of the city. The concierge was very helpful in setting up a private tour to St. Emilion. They also arranged our transportation from the airport to the hotel and our hotel to the train station. We would definitely stay here again. read more

The concierge at this hotel is amazing. They will help you with anything you ask. Our hotel room was a bit of a disappointment. The walls are fabric and although the toile fabric is pretty, it does hold a cigarette smell. I personally don't care for down comforters and pillows. The staff was so lovely, they were always pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend booking wine tour through them. It was my favorite part of our stay. read more

Our room is Huge but we do have a one bedroom suite. Room 318. It is well appointed . There is a Nespresso machine (this is always the highlight for me ) The bed is comfortable. We have 2 flat screen TVs. The bathroom is good size. The bath tub is big. read more

Oh France!!!! I love you so... The GBH is a beautiful building although I didn't have the pleasure of staying there. I did however experience an enchanting facial. I was so dang jet lagged I promptly fell asleep.... Zzzzzzzzz The star of this experience is really the facility, it's beautiful a resistance swimming pool, a dry and wet sauna. First, the rooms are nicely appointed. The spa is beautiful. The reception is a bit cold. We were not offered any support going to our rooms, despite the fact that we had several rooms. They also made a mistake on our rooms, and I ended up with a lower class room, but same price. The terrace bar is cute, but drinks are terrible. Not really recommended. The restaurant breakfast is also not well organized and service lacking. The restaurant was not good, but you can read those reviews separately. read more

Stayed here a few weeks ago with a friend (for a girls trip) and had a great stay. The concierge (George) and the receptionist (tall young male... we forgot his name) were super friendly and gave us great recommendations for our trip. Our room was clean, beautiful and had a great view of the opera house across the street. Our only complaint (which might be due to our unfamiliarity with the showers) was that our bathroom floors got incredibly wet anytime either of us took a shower. The concierge was able to get us last minute dinner reservations at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant downstairs (which is also a must try). Overall, service was AMAZING and we loved our stay. read more

Nice staff with a varied room selection. Not 5 star as the Grand Hotel continues to hold on to the strange tradition of having shower nozzles, not stationary shower heads. Excellent location, with a nice rooftop view and pool. The breakfast buffet is very good and the staff is very professional. Our jr suite,overlooking the front of the hotel, was huge, but a bit noisy. While my sister's jr suite was quite a bit more intimate and also "quiet as they come", our Jr suite was a bit louder with a view of the Main Street and plenty of street level noise. read more

One of our most memorable and enjoyable hotel stays. Arriving for the weekend, we were upgraded to a room with a view of the opera house across the square. Staff: terrific, escorting our car in and out of the limited access square, helping and advising us during the course of our stay, including expert advice and help in booking restaurants. Where shall I begin? Le Pressoir d'Argent is a Guide Miche one star in the process of earning a second, so every one and every thing is exquisitely presented. The room is gorgeous, in a classic style with tables set elegantly far apart, a ceiling high enough to permit indoor kite-flying and a staff as skilled as the kitchen. If every resaurant followed this formula, Murghk could give up cooking - assuming he actually holds last Saturday's winning Powerball ticket. The tariff is definitely not for the weak of heart (or faint of pocketbook), but worth every Euro the human male spent. (How often have you heard me say that?) We were greeted and shown to a lovely table against the far wall in the first room. Quiet and unobtrusive, with a good view of the rest of the room, it boasted a wonderful serving staff. After a polite inquiry about cocktails (which we declined), the carte des vins was promptly offered to the male. As one should expect in the absolute heart of wine country, it was heavily weighted towards local vineyards, and carefully curated to prevent oenophilic anxiety; though the number of bottles not requiring a second mortgage on the nest was limited. We chose a 2005 from an unfamiliar chateau, but either the sommelier thought it appropriate or completely off the wall because he smiled as he said "Excellent" and scurried off to the cave to retrieve it. For the record, it was superb - full, rounded with tannins that became velvety as the wine opened and released dark red fruits with a hint of cedar and earth on the extraordinarily long finish. Starters were exquisite. As we were puzzling through the menu, a lovely amuse-bouche was presented, and included macadamia nuts dusted with gold (literally!), a long, crisp and very thin breadstick stuck in an almost mustardy mayonnaise, and a lobster mousse dollop on a slightly savory macaroon. A second amuse bouche, a tantalizing taste of red mullet with vegetables in a broth was so good it gave Milady second thoughts about her main course - fortunately it was too late for her to change her mind. Milady ordered the fois gras; marinated in white wine, roasted and served with country bread. I ordered the scallop carpaccio which is served as two scallops covered with an overcast of foie gras then kissed with a flame, on crispy rounds of mango. It is finished with a drizzle of Xerez balsamic vinegar. The contrasts of soft and crisp, sweet and sharp, hot and cold are simply perfect. [Slurp]. To ready you for the main course, a delightful palate cleanser of blood orange sorbet topped with a froth of Tahitian vanilla. At this point one begins to think that the rest of the meal must necessarily be a letdown, but one presses valiantly on to the main event. The speciality of the house is the world famous blue lobster of Brittany. It is priced in 100 gram (about 3 1/2 ounces) increments to prevent sticker shock; you choose your own lobster (lobsters are integral units, so you must order a whole one), call your broker to arrange financing, and wait while it is pre-prepared. It then arrives at the table with a saucier of broth and the presentation begins. The waiter takes everything but the tail and claw meat, adds the roe, places it in the "pressoir" and extracts the juices. She (or he) does this three times and then adds the extract to the broth, spoons in a dollop of heavy cream, a dash of salt, freshly ground black pepper, and expertly whisks the mixture into a sauce which is gently pour over two towers of artfully arranged tail and claw meat. There is simply no way to describe how incredibly delicious the dish tastes. One forgets everything but the taste - "l'addition" will be of no consequence, one's children will simply have to forego private school for a public education, the car will last another decade - there is nothing in the world like this meal. Dessert was almost anti-climatic; but it wasn't. A hollow dark chocolate shell filled with litchi sorbet which surrounded a pingpong ball size scoop of Tahitian vanilla ice cream. The combination was a knockout - whatever disappointments you have ever experienced when you ordered a tartufo will be forgiven. Milady ordered a praline souffle. Laced with amaretto, blanketed with chantilly and bedded on the previously mentioned litchi sorbet, it surprised and delighted with a combination of textures and flavors that is completely unique. On our very first trip to Paris we ate at the Jules Verne. We had dinner at Stone Barn at Blue hills last winter. At each of those fine restaurants we dined well - and spent nearly as much. The gastro-theater at Stone Barn was first rate, the view at Jules Verne was unique, the food at Le Pressoir d'Argent was better. read more

My sister and I stayed here 3 nights after staying in 2 chateaus in Loire Valley. Compared to our stay at the lesser expensive chateaus, this hotel did not live up to its price point. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was nice but the room had problems. The entrance into our room smelled and that smell of organic mold lingered into the sleeping area. Our bathtub was stained so it looked dirty. The lighting was terrible; we couldn't make it bright. The bathrobes are stiff like cardboard. The concierge though nice enough was unwilling to go out of his way to deliver good customer service. When our room was being turned down for the night we went to the lobby and asked the concierge for the room service menu to place our order. He told us simply that he didn't have the menu. I guess room service menus are not printed to have extras--only enough for one menu per room. Ok so we had to wait until we had access to our room to look at the menu. The spa is coed and serves the fitness center for the hotel. Ok fine but when we went to use the jacuzzi we encountered a random naked man in the spa. Unsure if he was a guest. The rest area after your massage overlooks the indoor community pool which was noisy. Finally, there were not enough cardboard towels to go around. Will have to give kudos to the 2 star Michelin restaurant Le Pressor D'Argent. This was a 3 hour culinary excursion not to be missed. read more
