I have been a homeowner since 1984. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a lender. Unresponsive, failed to give me all my options, took about 110 days form application to closing. I must have called 15 times to find out my status but rarely got an answer. One of the staff I dealt with sounded totally inexperienced and confused. She then stopped returning my calls. Their online system sent me no less than 10 emails indicating I needed to login to the portal and complete tasks which I knew were already done. In each case, I would log in and the system said there was nothing they needed from me. When I finally went to closing over three months after my initial contact, the documents were wrong TWICE. The notary had to return to my home with corrected docs. I received an email asking for a rating, which I gave as ZERO. Their customer service department emailed me saying they were sorry I was dissatisfied and offering to send me a $25 gift card. I wrote back and asked if they wanted to hear about my experience. I also called twice. After almost a month, no one has contacted me. I guess they just don't care! read more

When I initially contacted Interfirst, I let them know that the most important part of the refinance would be a remote closing. It was imperative that everything be no-contact with members of our household being immuno-compromised and there was a global pandemic. I was assured from that very first phone call that the closing and notary could be done over Zoom and was relieved. When the closing was scheduled, I was then told that remote closing was suddenly not possible and that I would have to go into the title company's office. I referenced our earlier phone call regarding a remote closing (which they record for quality and training purposes) and was again told no. By this time, rates had risen a quarter point and I was locked in with Interfirst and had no choice. In the week leading up to the closing, I left three voicemails and six emails regarding the amount of a cashier's check to bring to close. Only one of those messages was responded to saying "That figure isn't available." No responses to when or how any of this would occur. The non-communication was a pattern throughout this transaction with emails not being responded to by the loan officer and the phone number always rolling to voicemail. I was provided the closing disclosure the afternoon before the closing and did not have time to review it thoroughly, only confirming that numbers were correct so I could rush to the bank for a cashier's check before they closed. During the closing, the notary pointed out that there was no escrow account, counter to what had been requested throughout the process. Interfirst shrugged and said there wasn't anything they could do, I would have to work that out with the title company despite it being Interfirst's error. Luckily, the Title Company came through and was able to set up an escrow with an overnighted personal check. I would not recommend Interfirst for any transaction, particularly one as important as a mortgage. Between the misleading direction regarding the nature of closing, the lack of communication, and the broken escrow, the experience was the worst I have ever had with a financial institution. I am not looking forward to the creative ways they will jeopardize this mortgage over the next thirty years. read more

Chicago office. Extremely close by. Unfortunately I have not heard back from them any of the times Rick Cluen said he would call back. I've never met a "professional" mortgage broker that needs to constantly confer with their manager for an answer and never get back to the customer as originally stated. Absolutely horrible customer service and communication. I called a broker through Costco today. Go with them instead. Via Fannie Mae, I'm locked in @ 2.625% for 30 yrs. The gentleman was kind enough to let me know to contact equifax on "old" "specific" trade lines that can be removed for Freddie Mac. (Of which he gave me the wrong definition for trade line). I do not need to pay for an appraisal. In 1 day. Applied. locked. And disclosures signed. I was even given a cell phone for text communication for any questions! All extremely rapid In Response with no management advice needed. Go with Costco instead. Superior service unlike this company, Very limited in response and not very knowledgable. read more

Really really bad service. DO NOT fall for their no-fee tricks!!! I have had loan service with many companies but it's by far the WORST. They promise you with sweet words but when it gets to the loan process. It's really slow and they start asking for all kinds of documentation that other lenders have NEVER asked for before. Don't deal with this company, no matter what their interest rates may be. And pay attention to the many other negative reviews: Their processor people are pleasant but inexperienced and not competent. You will likely have duplicate document requests, lack of understanding of your basic documents, poor inter-office communication etc. E.g. I was actually asked, "What is the purpose of your primary residence"? I had to reply that I live there a lot and sleep there a lot. And, should you have a primary and secondary (vacation) residence, they will keep confusing which residence the mortgage application is for. And their supervisory people are rude and unresponsive. I would not refinance your house or getting mortgage from this company. When we are finalizing a refinancing the company kept switching me between two different people which led to many problems. I ended up having to sign the giant closing packet twice because they got so many things wrong. The next thing is they will send you a bunch of letters and give you calls that make it sound like there's something wrong it is urging you call them but it is just them trying to sell different things to you. Finally when they were trying to sell my mortgage right after buying it to themselves they kept making me pay my water bill early. After that when they finally were able to transfer their mortgage and I had a 60 day period in which I had to pay no interest and I told them I will not pay until the 60 days are up they harass me and keep calling even though I haven't asked them to stop. Just did a refinance through Interfirst. Found them on bankrwte.com. We live in Minneapolis and everything was remote but the paperwork and closing went relatively smoothly. Closing costs were under $1500 which included a waived appraisal fee. Couldn't beat the low cost of this company. Half the time I thought that they were going to sneak extra fees in somewhere but they didn't! I asked our local mortgage agent to see if they could match the offer but she said it was an insanely good estimate and to do it if it was for real. Thankfully it was! read more

Had a very good experience with inter first mortgage. We did a 15 year refi and lowered our interest rate to 2.1 percent. Closing cost were under 1500.00 and in line with their estimated cost. I wish I could not give a star at all. I am a Broker and I know all to well how Refi and Mortgages work. I have had nothing but issues since the day they took over my loan. My balance is wrong and since they took the loan over I have been on a bi-weekly schedule. That means in months they get 3 payments, I have sent them over 9,000 the first month and they harras me that I am behind a payment. I am at the same loan amount I was with I was at 3.25% with chase and I have given them all the correct, plus payments. My mortgage is clearly more on a 15 years, but they don't even know how to move my money and correct all the errors. Please STAY AWAY read more

I have owned at least 10 homes, thus I have gone through the mortgage process more than one would like. I have to say that my experience with Interfirst was my best. I got the lowest rate, lowest closing costs, and expended the least effort of any other experience. I was very impressed with how close the APR was to the quoted rate. Most companies pull you in with a low rate but then the APR is at least a 1/4 percent higher. The whole process was pretty painless with only the minimum amount of documentation required which I was easily able to either scan or download to my computer and then upload on their website. Again, my closing costs were super low compared to other mortgages I have had. I will definitely seek them out the next time I move. read more

4 months to close, numerous errors (escrow of insurance and taxes, not knowing HELOC needed subbordination) all which needed correcting and delayed.closing. I emailed and called loan coordinator to correct these errors and she never called or emailed me back. The company is poorly organized and communication is extremely poor. The employees are poorly trained. Typically I was requested to upload a document, which underwriting would not review for another week, then another document, uploading documents I had already uploaded. Because I was just requested to repetitively upload documents to verify my self-employment income, underwriting asked me for "contracts and invoices" of HIPPA protected information (definitely a violation of HIPPA law and probably a violation of mortgage regulation). A simple phone call to me could have problem solved verifying income. When I received final closing docs, which I attempted to correct 2 times with emails, they were emailed back without being corrected. I spent 45 min on the phone explaining to the loan originator why the $830 refund from appraisal additional charges were not included in the final closing document (his lack of understanding basic math.) One week after signing closing docs, on the day Interfirst was to fund, I was asked to again upload the same bank statements (already uploaded 5 months of statements) I had uploaded 2 days before. Out of 15 mortgages/refinances I have completed for the purchase of 5 houses, this is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. read more

DO NOT USE THIS LENDER. I had locked in 1.75% with a different lender, and then switched to Interfirst. That was 1/5/2022, it is now 4/19/22, and they are now telling me they can't finance our property. Last month they were trying to terminate our lock since they couldn't find an appraiser. They quoted $600 for an appraisal and said they could only find one that cost $2,750. We agreed to pay the extra $2k, but now they are closing our loan application because our property "no longer qualifies". We have asked a manger to call us back twice and still have never heard anything. If you want your loan to close, DON'T USE INTERFIRST!!!! read more

Worst experience managing my loan. When my loan was transferred to them they didn`t receive insurance information from previous loan servicer. They never let me know that they don't know where to send annual homeowners insurance payment to. As a result my homeowners insurance was cancelled and by the time I found out - it was to late to renew it at the same quote. Then Interfirst charged me for the gap in insurance that was double than average price for that period of time. They knew that no insurance company would issue an insurance policy for dates in past so they obligated me to pay that charge that was a rip off. I filed a complaint with supervisor and was told it will be reviewed. They sold my loan to another servicer very next month and told me that since we`re not a your loan servicer any more your complaint will not be review BUT they charged my new servicer for the cost of insurance gap. Worst loan servicer, worst customer service, they totally don`t care about customers but they charge unreasonable fees that you have no way to appeal. I hope I will never deal with them any more in my life. read more

Worst communications skills ever. I've never experienced anything like it. While the marketing officer was initially great, once I submitted the underwriter's requested information, communications fell off a cliff until -- after five weeks - I received a seven-word reply saying our loan was denied. After repeated attempts to get more feedback from marketing officer or loan processor, no reply. When we tried to contact the customer service team, our call was rolled back to the general service number and asked to leave a message. No surprise -- no call back. Don't bother sending a cry for help to Interfirst's info@ address -- no reply there either. Note on the website that there are precious few phone numbers to call - the few that do take you to oblivion. Life is too short to deal with companies like Interfirst. read more

Run Run!! Where do I start? They advertise a great rate which prompted me to want to do business. My income and credit are in good standing which should have made the process a breeze. As in the previous reviews, they kept on asking for the same paperwork over and over. It appears that they hire the worse underwriters to do business with who have no clue on how to properly write a  loan. I recently closed my refinance with Interfirst. They were very pleasant to deal with throughout the entire process. It took a bit longer to get through the whole process to closing due to the number of refinances going on now, but they provided weekly updates and kept me informed of exactly where my loan was at in the process and what where the next steps. Everyone I dealt with was very kind, friendly and professional. My loan originator, Koley, in particular was very helpful and explained everything very clearly. I reached out to him with questions on a couple different occasions and he responded almost immediately and took the time to explain everything. Like some other reviews state my experience with Interfirst was the worst lender experience I have ever had. Good rate pulled me in and I clearly should have done more homework on this company. Closing was a full month late - replies for information were at times painfully vague, responses were very slow and some staff at Interfirst clearly did not take the time to review/read what was submitted before asking for more information and/or the same information again. Though I originally posted a 1 star review of Interfirst. I have updated my review. There were some things that Interfirst did not do well in the beginning, the biggest was responsiveness. I was told 60 days to close in the beginning. Around 60 I started questioning why communication was lacking after completing everything timely on my end. Come to find out my application was put in a hole because some staff did not understand 501c3 ownership structure and were trying to process my loan as if I were an owner. I left a negative review and around 80 days since applying, and losing all confidence in Interfirst, the VP called and got things straightened out. They then took good care of me and got me to close. All-in-all it took about 130 days, which is a very long time, but I am happy that they got the loan closed and did their best job to make it a quality loan for me. I was thankfully not in a hurry on my refinance, and I was glad that they reached out to me personally once I made my dissatisfaction so public. I am satisfied. Should close next week. read more

The worst mortgage company I have ever dealt with. There is zero communication and no one knows what's going on. I overpaid on escrow and a check was supposedly sent out I never received it 2 months after it was "sent". I emailed with no response so I called. The representative said okay let me check and said I'll send a check out today. I received it two days later and put it in my account. Then I received an email saying we will check into the escrow check. I immediately emailed back and said I spoke to someone and received the check. Then I get an email 6 days later saying a new check was sent. I said no don't send a check I already cashed the check. I get an email back saying there was a stop payment on the check 6 days AFTER I received the check and cashed it. I checked my account and it was taken out! I still have yet to receive a new check. They supposedly do an escrow analysis each year but I'm overpaying each year by thousands of dollars on my escrow! They have no clue what is going on. Definitely do not recommend! read more

Absolutely horrible communication and major delays in closing. Provided all the required information back in April and the loan closed mid July. They don't tell you how backed up they are and all you get from the loan processor is that "it's in underwriting" with no call back for weeks despite calling for an update every week. Cost me over $1k in lost savings. There are plenty of lenders out there with low rates. Go somewhere else and save a lot of frustration. read more

It has been the worst process with terrible communication all along the way. it is worth noting that I am very quick to fill out requested forms, upload documents, and have very stable employment history and over 740+ credit score. In spite of this, the process has still been terrible. Keep looking for a different company. read more

Doing a Refi with Interfirst was SUPER easy! I loved that everything was online and automated! My loan manager Mike was super helpful and made sure everything was in place. Pretty straightforward company offered the best lowest rate considering all considering all the factors . Actually everybody else was about 0.4% higher APR. No hidden cost.. However the only suggestion for better service is for The Loan processor And the Agent To follow the case on their own. For example I would call with a question and it would take usually A-day or 2 For them to get back to me.Another example is yes that I noticed 3 or 4 days going by Nothing was going on. So I contacted One of interfirst Employees Who was working on the loan that had emailed me previously A few weeks earlier. Anyway he told me the hold up was they were having a problem problem getting pay off from the old mortgage Company. Interfirst should have contacted me so it took an extra 4 days for me to get the payoff letter from the previous mortgage Company. If I had not contacted interfirst, it would of took longer.. Also there was a problem in the escrow is the escrow where where I had to find out who was doing the escrow and talked to the ass girl company in order to find out they needed a check Voided for for wire transfer. Interfirst was not aware of this problem at all. But overall it went pretty smooth and everybody was professional. I would use them again Especially now because I know where the pitfalls are and how to get around them. Interfirst offered the best rate, no points and no closing costs. I refinanced 2 mortgages, one with cash out. The application was fast and easy. At first communication was great with the loan officer; he seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. But when I wanted to increase my cash out after the appraisal came back higher than expected, that wasn't immediately done. It was done only a few days before the scheduled closing. The day before closing, I was informed by the loan officer that I would only close on one loan and the cash out loan closing would be delayed. On that same day, the closing company called me and said we were closing on 2 loans. I told them, we were only closing on 1 loan per the loan officer. On the day of the closing, the notary had paperwork for both loans with the cash out loan amount adjusted and increased as I had requested so I closed on both loans. The day after the loan officer contacted me to congratulate me on closing 1 loan and said he would be in touch regarding next steps, if any, for the 2nd loan. I told him, I closed on both loans. I asked him to confirm that everything was fine as I was waiting for my cash out check in the mail and didn't want to have any unexpected issues with that. Be said he would look into it but never got back to me. I did get my check in the mail about a week after closing. All in all, Interfirst offered the best deal and the process from application to closing for 2 loans was fast, only took about a month. Processing, appraisal and underwriting was good. The portal wasn't the friendliest to uploaf documents but I got through it. My only issue was with the confusion and communication if the closing. read more
