I file my own taxes and I am strongly opposed to taxes but for the sake of living here I have to file them and I do not want to go to jail. I recently got a notice from the IRS saying that I owe " X" amount of money. The thing is though is that I paid my taxes when I amended them in February and they took out my money from my bank account. I get a letter saying that I owe the same amount that I paid initially the only difference is that they added 34 cents on the IRS end. So all these guys really coming after me over 34 cents perhaps ? I wanted to call and correct them on this because I'm being held hostage about paying my taxes yet again before a certain deadline or I'll be paying more interest for something that they should see in their own account that they took out of mine. Unfortunately there is no one to call and navigating the phone call it's like walking on eggshells . Never written a review of the IRS previously. Taxes have always been somewhat of an efficient process. Definitely processed within 4 weeks. Many people this tax year, 2025, have taxes that have been sitting stagnant with no updates for 30 days +. Calling the IRS is pointless as they just say wait up to 9 weeks. Their website says 21 days, which is completely useless, if they can willy-nilly change the processing time whenever they feel. They are also requiring multiple people to verify their taxes. American citizens that have been filing taxes for 30+ years. And then tell you to wait up to 9 weeks to see what happens. Completely unacceptable and ridiculous. This new administration is completely inept. And the folks they fired from the IRS were definitely the backbone of the department. They need to bring competent workers back in office. We pay our taxes diligently all year long, and hope that when its refund time, they would be just as competent and efficient in processing them, since this is not a surprise and tax season repeats year after year. read more

Yes, you read that right - THREE DAYS! I filed my taxes electronically through TurboTax on February 10th. I was then notified about two hours later that the IRS had accepted my filing. That was astonishing in itself. But then to see a deposit in my checking account on February 13th from the Federal government for the amount of the refund on my taxes, THAT was just mind blowing!!! The most incompetent is the IRS revenue service of the U.S. federal government! Paid debt off in Dec.15, 2025. Before filing in Feb 2026, I called and waited for 3 hours before I got someone and it took more than several phones to get thru to an actual person. Though the check clearly stated all information needed to be applied to the correct tax year...I was ensured it had been. So I went ahead and filed my taxes in Feb of this year. IRS took my refund of 5000 for past due taxes that were paid off in Dec 2025. March request tax advocate with Form 911. Never not once heard a word from TAS Michelle P. in Indiana. Many voice mails, faxes and emails. May 2026 filed with our Congressman and have a constituent Debbie B. Filed a Form 843 as requested immediately. June finally after 3 months I was given a case number for the TAS agent assigned. Still no word form her. Don't bother calling her direct line either and leaving a voicemail because not only does she not answer her line but she does not return calls either. At the very least the constituent does reply but it's more or less automated response of I'll ask for an update that never really comes. So here I am almost 8 months and no movement on my transcripts. 50 calls at least because the system tells you over and over again "Call volume too high please try again the next business day". Every single ID I have logged for each person I have spoken too and every last one of them were completely a waste of time in ignorance. Why do we have people in the federal government working these phones that not only know nothing but if they do there is not one single they can offer in remedying the situation? I needed to confirm my 102 year old mother's identity after she had been flagged for possible identity theft in filing her return. I called the national IRS phone number for several days and always got the recording that they were too busy to take my call and to call back another day. I located a regional IRS taxpayer assistance office and tried calling but would need to wait for close to an hour. I drove to that location without an appointment. Two people were staffing. No line of people and I was called in to sit at a desk. I was told I needed an appointment. I was then told that they had to take care of appointments (no one was there). I was told that appointments might still show up. I was told they were very overworked because 30,000 employees had been let go by the current administration. I was given an appointment for two days later, showed up and my business was completed in 10 minutes. Why can't IRS employees just help walk ins between appointments or when those with appointments do not show up? This location was called a "Taxpayer Assistance. I understand this is a busy tax season. However, if the federal government can allocate funds to international aid, newly created departments, and increased compensation for certain officials, it is reasonable to expect that sufficient resources could also be allocated to adequately staff the IRS during peak filing periods. At present, it is extremely difficult to reach a live representative. Hold times are excessive, and even after waiting, callers are often disconnected or told that no one is available. The IRS is prompt in sending written notices, but the same urgency is not reflected in its phone support. Taxpayers are instructed in these letters to call specific departments, only to be met with automated messages such as, "Due to high call volume, we cannot assist you at this time," or advised by other departments to "keep trying" with no meaningful alternative offered. This level of service is highly inefficient and frustrating for taxpayers who are attempting in good faith to comply with IRS instructions. Taxpayers should not be required to call every day, with little to no chance of speaking to a representative or receiving timely assistance. Strengthening IRS customer service--particularly during tax season--should be a clear operational priority. read more

You would think if the IRS really wanted their money, they would invest in better technology infrastructure to support their high volumes or idk - invest in just modernizing enough to where people can do things on their own. Instead, simple requests, like trying to change the bank account that you're paying with, require phone calls. Ironically enough, the phone system tells you that most things can be done online (I guess we haven't tried to use our own systems, because when you go online, it tells you, this can't be completed online and provides a phone number to call). Then comes the phone system. I thought the Post Office had the worst website and phone system. Then the IRS said "hold my beer!" You call and IF you actually get to the queue area, its HOURS on hold (not even joking, do this on your day off because as far as these people are concerned - you have no life - your life revolves around them and waiting on hold). What's more than likely to happen though, is the phone system is going to tell you that due to high volume - kick rocks and try again on a different day - and hang up on you. I've tried calling different days and times over weeks and nothing. I'd say keep thorough logs of ALL attempts to contact them because they'll likely have the nerve to come after you for evasion when you've been trying to make things right for MONTHS (or maybe YEARS).
