This company is a nightmare. Shamus Sayed the owner is shoddy at best and how they run this shady operation is beyond me. I visited the offices of Shamus Sayed and Interpreters Unlimited to discuss options for a group of interpreters from my company. I was greeted by James Le, an assistant or someone, he didn't really say who he was but proceeded to sit in the office meeting on a laptop not doing anything. Shamus' office was literally by the front door of the building (probably so he can make speedy exits) and spent the entire meeting staring at something on his computer, taking in circles about how his interpreters are the best. I foolishly decided to go ahead with a couple of interpreters - they didn't show up. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. Shamus (and his assistant James) gave me some spiel about how the company was facing some employee trouble and it had an impact on their staffing. I understood and tried again. 1 interpreter showed up and looked miserable, it was awful and I was devastated. I looked like an idiot. Some of the translated documents look even better than the source, and they make sure the translation memories and terminology glossaries are updated and applied consistently according to our guidelines. I am a professional interpreter with more than 20 years of experience working with many different companies. I am now at the point of my professional expertise when I choose companies to work with. The level of Interpreters Unlimited as such, that I gladly select their assignments among other offers. Even though I never met Elle L. , who is my point of contact, I know that I always get pertinent info, reminders and support. She, as well as other IU emplyees, has excellent communication skills and I can get answers regardless of the time difference. The payments from IU come in the timely fashion, unlike from some other companies, where contractors have to place multiple calls and send emails in order to get paid. Working for Alameda County, my experience with Interpreters Unlimited has been wonderful. They provide interpreting services for our consumers, we rely on them for many language interpretations. Rosa, Edith and Heidy are always professional and quick to respond. I often contact them with very short notice and they always make great effort in making sure they find an interpreter for our agency. I've been with this company for close to 10 years and there's no such company as being perfect but honestly IU is pretty close. I hope they keep it going like this for a long long time. It is easy to get my job done with staff like Celeste and Rosa who pay attention to details, call timely with issues that they run into and are very pleasant to talk with. There are times that I do not understand what is needed and both Celeste and Rosa are patient and understanding. Beware of this company. On Thursday of last week, I requested the services of an interpreter for an immigration interview on Monday. I completed all requested paperwork and gave them my credit card information. For the interview on Monday, the interpreter did not show up for the interview. So, I did not have an interpreter for the interview. My contact, Scott Daniels, claimed the agreement was not signed but never notified me except an email that I could not open about an hour before the interview. If you need an interpreter, I suggest you avoid this company. read more

Baci is my go to person, though all are very helpful and will go out of their way when I'm in need. This one is big for me, they are especially good at fullfilling clients requests for their preferred interpreters.
