Shopping under one roof - a girls dream!! The metrocentre really is all that - you can eat, see a movie, have a drink, and best of all find shoes!!! There are over 1500 shops in here and the only thing missing is a sauna, somewhere to wind down after the stresses of which ones to buy and which ones to add to your Christmas list. The choice of shops is just so vast - everyone can find something to suit their taste and budget. You can purchase designer goods or bargins from Pondland!! Metrocentre is sited just off the A1 and is really well signposted - there are more than adequate parking facilities and the shops are sited over 2 floors. All of these are color coded and there are several guides placed around the centre. Maps can also be found (free of charge and thats not something we hear very often) at all customer service points as can wheelchair and trolly buggy hire. On the thrid floor- just outside the main entrance, there is also a new Motabilty centre where shoppers can hire a shopping scooter! If you can't find what your looking for in the Metrocentre, it's simply because you don't need it!!! read more

I used to be fortunate enough to live quite close to the Metro Centre and so visited here frequently and for a number of reasons - retail, food, cinema and amusement park. The centre itself is large and would cater for everyone with the range of shops on offer. Of particular note are the themed 'links' between the various coloured wings where you will find eateries and some more unusual shops. Within the complex you will also find a cinema and Metroland theme park, although on my last visit this was not open so I am not sure what the current status is. There is plenty of car parking although the roads serving these can get a bit choked up at times. The only down side is that due to the configuration of the centre it is easy to miss some areas. Well worth a visit thought especially early morning before it get's busy. read more

The metro centre is situated about 4 miles from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne (you cannot get the Metro here, as i thought when i first visited). The number 100 bus will take you straight there from a number of stops in Newcastle. If traveling by car its just off the A1. Its has lots of shops, cafe's, bars and a couple of resturants like Nando's and Chiqito's. Its also got a Weatherspoons for cheep 2for1's. There is a Debenhams and House of Fraser along side the usual stores you would find in shopping centre. Not many unusual or designer shops though. Parking is free and i've never been and not found a space to park The indoor theme park has now been closed but its in the process of building a new cinema, bars etc in its place. Sadly the theme park (biggest undercover theme park in the UK, Metroland) has now closed as the powers that be thought it more important to expant the cinema. Sigh. Still, if you want all your shops under one roof then the Metro Centre is the place to go. All the usual chain stores, plus lovely little 'villages' of small, independent shops and restaurants that seperate the different shopping zones. There are plenty of bars and places to eat, as well as a large multiplex cinema and bowling alley. Free parking is offered and the centre is easily reached by regular bus services around the region, as well as having its own dedicated train station. Christmas sees lovely decorations and a Christmas Village complete with Santa and his eles which is well worth a visit. read more

A vast undercover labyrinth dedicated to consumption. Its a mall! Parking is free, and secure. There is plenty of it, even if at christmas you may have to wait or trek through the inevitable Gateshead sleet from the overflow. Almost every name on the high street you could think of and a massive Marks and Spencers, House of Frasers and Debenhams. There are little areas where smaller shops get a look in like the meditteranean village. All the usual fast food and chain restaurants. Also for kid entertainment a multiplex cinema, a lasertag and a good bowling place. Nice to go at Christmas if you have kids as they have a good santa and decorations, sometimes during the kids holidays they have little shows so you can rest your feet ( and head) for half an hour. read more

I grew up visiting the MetroCentre during every holidays and it is still a brilliant place for a day out. There is a massive range of shops, with the price range being just as massive. Whether you want high street shops or independents the MetroCentre has plenty of both. Not only great for shopping there are also loads of restaurants, a large cinema and a few pubs. I recommend trying big lukes (above the cinema), which has a great choice of food - bbq chicken, pizza, chips, rice, noodles, pasta, salad, baked potatos etc. It is all you can eat so you can try everything. My only complaint is that MetroLand (the indoor themepark) has now closed and is being removed. I am devastated about this as it was a brilliant place for kids and teenagers. read more

The Metro Centre is located in the city of Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. It is one of Europes largest indoor shopping centres with over 300 retailers and leisure attractions (bowling, cinema etc) and over 50 restaurants and cafes so there are plenty of places to stop and eat! Unfortunately the indoor fun fair (Metroland) has closed down but there is more than enough there to keep you occupied! The centre is easily accessible by public transport (Metro and Bus) and it also has nearly 10,000 free car parking spaces for anyone travelling by car. It does get really busy on weekends and on the lead up to Christmas it is an absolute NIGHTMARE to get parked. Weekdays throught the rest of the year though it is quite nice to shop there. read more

The metro centre has coloured blocks helping you find what sector you need to be in, it can be confusing but also helpful, they used to have metroland which had the biggest indoor rollercoaster but they shut it down to build a cinema, which was a big disappointment to many as the metro centre already had a cinema but nevermind. It has a wide range of shops and restaurants. Is nice for a day out shopping. Its one of those 'every now and then' places. but it has plenty bus stops and has a bus directly from newcastle to it, and you can get the metro to newcastle from many different places in the north east, so it has quite easy access. free parking. read more

This store has been recently refurbished. Typical Argos, it's always busy - last time I was there there was a queue outside the door at opening time! Wide availability of stock, plenty of stock and price checking machines available, quick pay/pay by card tills available as well as traditional staff-manned tills. It's an Argos Extra store so has a wider range than usual. This store accepts Metrocentre gift vouchers which is useful. Staff are pleasant and must get tired of asking everyone if they want to buy insurance or open an Argos card. You can buy almost anything except food from here, it seems, from jewellery to household goods to toys. read more

When i was around 15 this place was immense. I could shop for all the designer clothes that had been reduced in the hope i could actually afford them. I always used to eat at the Big Lukes buffett. Also Metroland was just great, I think it has since been shut down though. There is nothing you cannot do at the Metro Centre, they have food, amusements, cinema's, laser quaser, bowling almost anything. That is what you get from the biggest shopping centre in Europe. The Metrocentre is easiest accessed by train. The trains go from Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Heworth and Newcastle then stopping at the Metrocentre. read more

This is an awesome place to go as it caters to every generation and gender and is a fun place for the family to spend a day relaxing as it includes many features including theatre, resturants, cafes, shopping facilities, parking facilities, bowling and many more attractions. You would be silly not to visit this place, especially if you are a tourist as you can pick up plenty of little bargains. Also there are fantastic entertainment available during the holidays so your children will always be busy. The metro centre is the most famous shopping centre in the North of England so this is an essential must see spot. read more

The metro centre is a very large out of town shopping centre, and was one of the first out of town shopping centres in the UK. Since then the site has expanded and there are now many separate shops such as IKEA, ILVA, ASDA, furniture shops, Pizza Hut, etc. Within the metro centre there is a cinema, lots of restaurants and bars, the shops (of course!) and a big indoor theme park to keep the kids amused while you do your shopping. There is a huge variety of shops, great for doing the Christmas shopping. Recently the metro centre has expanded, the new arcade is much lighter and brighter, and boasts trendier shops. read more

A great shopping centre and an enjoyable day out. There are shops for every age group. There are various restaurants and other acitivites available also. These include a Cimena with 10 large screens. Exhibitions also often take place in the exhibition square, which are entertaining for children of can offer various product promotions. The Metro Centre is a huge shopping centre with loads of shops, and restaurants. You could easily spend a whole day there. There are so many shops to chose from you are bound to find something you like. It can get very busy at the weekends and it can be difficult to find a park near the entrances, but there are always spaces to be found. The new Red segment has lots of trendy new shops like River Island, New Look and French Connection, as well as a new. Debenhams. The Metro Centre is definately the biggest shopping centre in the UK. It is absolutaly huge and if you went in every shop it would take you days to get around. There is a massive car park and also multi story car parks if these are ever full and believe me at this time of year it can happen. There is a really big Debenhams, marks and spencer, New look, H&M and many more big stores. there are plenty of places to eat and although the place is huge, it is always very clean. Everything under one roof is the simplest way to sum up the Metro Centre. It used to be the largest under cover shopping centre in Europe when it was first built. Though it no longer is it still is pretty amazing. It has a million and one shops something for everyone. The place is wide and open and very airy even when its busy. There are loads of places to eat too, my favourite is in a little village where there are loads of foreign restaurants, my favourite being Big Lukes. It is based right next to the A1 road so it is easy to drive to and is also on train and bus routes too. The shopping centre is one of the biggest in the country and has 100's of shops as well as restaurants, bars and a cinema. The shops are very varied - including clothes, outdoor, homewares - which means you will find everything you want here. The centre is open from 10am to 10pm and has 1000's of free parking places. The metro centre is includes an entertainment sector which has a bowling alley. The centre is fab and is definitely worth a visit. read more

The Metro centre used to be good years ago when it was one of the first large shopping 'malls' we had in the UK. With all the new ones popping up, it is looking a bit dated, but still has all the shops you need and is a godsend in the winter when you want to get around without a brolly, coat, scarf etc - everything under one roof. There are plenty of places to eat and a lot of them are 'themed' which is fun. There is a cinema, and tons of parking, but it does get really busy and can be a bit of a queue to get out a lot of the time. read more

One of the first out of town shopping centres in the UK, the metro centre is showing its age in places, although has recently had a shiny new extension which is a lot lighter and brighter with fewer plastic plants. You can get anything you want/need/can imagine here, from a huge array of shops, all in a nice warm and dry indoor mall and there are also plenty of restaurants, bars, a cinema, an indoor amusement park and so on. There are several large furniture stores, a supermarket and an ikea dotted around the outside of the site. read more
