What's cool is the hike to the cool part isn't super far either. My girl is a birder so she brought her knocks and found an Egret there sitting on the rocks in the river. Meanwhile I had my nature playlist on as I walked amongst the woods. If you've played as many video-games as I have, sometimes you just got to fully immerse yourself in. Graphics will never compare to the real thing. Lots of parking by the way. If you are lucky you might even see a donut truck here.

We were there on a drizzly day which added much to reduce visitors and add to the considerable ambiance. I'd love to revisit on a bright sunny day, but the misty atmosphere made this already wonderful place all the more fantastical. Comparisons to Tolkien-esque scenes are spot on, at least in our visit. Even for those with no interest in fantasy literature, film, or games, The Hermitage is a comfortable hike in a beautiful setting. Flowing river, towering Douglas firs, stone bridges, water falls, The Hermitage (part of The National Trust of Scotland) is as picturesque a place as one could hope for. A couple of circular trail options are available ranging from a couple of hours to around 20 minutes. The trail is flat to start but continues to climb as you follow the River Brann to Black Linn Falls. Things to know: * We were there in wet conditions, making it necessary to be a little more mindful of our footing. As with any trail hike, be careful. * Folks with mobility concerns may want to limit themselves. The lower portions aren't difficult and are beautiful. * If you are lucky, the Full Circle Donuts food truck will be there serving up hot, fresh-made donuts to fortify you before and/or after your trek (Wed-Fri at least as late as early November).
