He was the 2nd president of the National Geographic Society. He had a deep interest in the new science of heredity and helped shape its direction. He was also significant in providing education and research for the hearing impaired and speech impaired. This site and museum has many artifacts showing some of his works. I would have liked to have spent more time, maybe 6 hours in all. But a tip, don't forget to look at the beauty outside of this museum as the views are gorgeous and inspiring!

Cheticamp is known for the Acadian rug hooking which is hooked on burlap and worked using a frame. It's very meticulous work all done by hand. Many of the hooked art work depicts Acadian life and life in Nova Scotia.

Everything from oil paining, to ceramics/pottery, to works in wood, metal and stone. A very nice collection and worth a visit. You'll probably see something that will catch your eye. A "ceilidh" (pronounced "Kay-Lee") were Irish/Scottish musical gatherings in people's homes that were common in the area historically. This venue is helping to keep that tradition alive and supports local Cape Breton artists to perform regularly. It is a really magnificent experience. We had the pleasure of experiencing Dara on fiddle and Adam on piano. They shared music, told stories, and answered questions. It was very intimate, informative, and beautiful. There were people from all over the world. It is open every evening in tourist season (I think that was May to October but check first). Starts at 7:30 but get there by 7:15.
