They've got the big brands like: Patagonia, Marmot, North Face, Columbia, etc. When it comes to apparel that will withstand a trip to the Alps (or who are we kidding, a January in Iowa City :D) they've got you covered! Five floors of retail ranging from -- apparel, footwear and equipment. Items for boating, fishing, cycling, skiing, running, golfing, hunting, climbing-- almost anything you could do outdoors, they have something for. For as much as they have in the store, you'd expect it to the be cluttered. But it is very easy to get around and find what you're looking for. They did a great job organizing items and utilizing each floor of space. (*There are a lot of stairs! You've been warned.*) I can't say I frequent here often, but when I do-- I leave with what I came for. Pricing is fair but I honestly go straight to the sale rack when I'm here. (I've always been a fan of the sidewalk sales during the summer. Always finding a new pair of shoes at a great price!) Staff is VERY knowledgeable and welcoming. For example - last winter I spilled battery acid all over my NorthFace winter jacket - the kind that goes down to your ankles. BUT it happened just late enough in the winter that Active Endeavors was gearing up for one of their annual sales, and guess what? I got a replacement jacket for nearly 50 percent off. Huzzah! It was a win for me because I got a new coat, and I had the opportunity to support a local business, which I love doing. Active Endeavors also has a killer shoe selection - I'm not sure if people know this, but it's worth checking out!

But if you're in need of a totally one of a kind or colorful accessory for yourself or loved one-- Glassandro should be a store you stop in. Personally, I adore Murano glass jewelry. And this is one of the few brick and mortar shops I know of in the area that carries it. However, Glassandro is much more than glass jewelry -- it carries a wide variety of bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. There are semi-precious stones, alternative metals and meteorite jewelry. I was awestruck of the naturally expired butterfly wing jewelry. So, so beautiful and unique. Definitely worth the money and reversible to boot. (I guess I had never realized the back side of butterfly wings were darker for night cover and also stunning.) I bought a pair for my mom and she loved them as much as I had hoped she would. The staff was very friendly and really knew about all of the pieces in the store. Pricing seemed reasonable, especially because the jewelry that lives in this store is so darn different. The jewelry Glassando carries is gorgeous, high quality, unique, and best of all, reasonably priced. I've given pieces from here as gifts on multiple occasions now and they always delight. Most recently, I contacted the shop via their facebook and was able to order a couple special trunk show pieces, *with the trunk show discount*! I was not expecting to get that discount and it was a nice surprise. The associate I communicated with (I'm assuming she was the owner) was friendly, helpful, and patient. This is the cutest little stationery store! They have so many cute and fun products in such a small…read morespace. This shop is truly the stationery lover's dream. I had to walk around the store several times to make sure I didn't miss anything. They had high quality journals, planners, note pads and letter writing sets from such great companies like Hobonichi, Midori and Leuchtturm. They also had a nice selection of pens including Kaweco and Lamy fountain pens--two of my favorite brands. Oh, and they had the funniest selection of greeting cards. This is what dreams are made of. Can you tell I'm a little in love with this place? My only complaint is that I wish they were located closer to where I live so I could visit them more often. I can't wait to stop in again to see what treasures they have to offer.

Unfortunately I didn't find an abnormal amount of Daptone, or any of the Daptone 7" records they're famous for. I was also hoping to find Daptone accessories and didn't see any, like the 45 rpm branded weights. However, it is a good store, I did find a new sealed record and a used record. I could have bought more, but the prices were a little high, and I owned most of the stuff, it didn't go too deep, lot of the basic popular stuff and modern stuff. One thing I saw was a lot of representation of local artists, which I really like and respect when a store helps their local scene. Staff were very friendly, and helpful. I overheard someone getting a recommendation and they were cared for well. Great store for the area, I'd stop in and check them out again if I were nearby.

And if you look hard enough, there are places that analog luddites are welcome. One such place is the Record Collector in Iowa City, alive and kicking since 1982. They sell "almost as ancient" CDs as well. I stumbled upon Record Collector by accident as I was passing time before the nearby 2022 Homecoming Parade. The place is full of vinyl goodness, and even a few turntables if you need equipment support to play these beauties. Heck, my favorite thing was to just look the various jackets over and reminisce about where I was in life when that record came out. Also enjoyable is listening to whatever they're playing over the loud speaker. Unlike a good used book store, the Record Collector is easy to navigate with well defined and organized racks. The also have website of which all sorts of ordering possibilities await.
