Went to the Like Combs concert here. Luke was great and everything else sucked. Bathroom lines were an hour plus. Drinks were sold out before the third opener. It was an outdoor concert in April and it rained... To top things off the parking lot was set up so bad we sat an HOUR before we got out of there. I'd never go to a concert here again. read more

What a fun time at the stadium! I came to watch the ISU homecoming game. Got to enjoy tailgating prior to game. Great to see so many people out and about enjoying themselves. You have to experience this stadium once in your life!! Unless you donate money to the school every year -- parking can be a little difficult, but there are designated general parking for a fee. There is ample bathrooms and food choices during game day. There is also a lactation room located onsite for nursing moms. read more

My own personal experience with Iowa State Cyclone football began in 1974 during the last year of the old Clyde Williams Field. I came over from Iowa City to visit my fellow Estherville friend (Bob M.) and go to the football game against Oklahoma (I think). Those were rowdier days when fans could come out onto the field. I specifically remember Bob and I being part of a group that surrounded the coin toss as we were yelling - Go Cyclones! I was thinking that at any minute, one of the opposing players were going to pound one of us because of all this fun nonsense. Clyde Williams Field is now a faint memory along Lincoln Way. In the fall of 1975, Jack Trice Stadium opened across campus. The stadium is named in honor of Jack Trice, ISU's first African American athlete and the school's first athletics-related fatality. The stadium itself holds at least 55,000 and consists of double-decked bowed grandstands running the length of either sideline, as well as end zone bleachers in the south end zone. It's an attractive stadium and I have enjoyed my somewhat limited experiences there. Until very recently, my parents were season ticket holders and my biggest regret has been not being in the crowd when either of my schools (University of Iowa and Texas A&M) were in town. The main reason Mom and Dad dropped their seats is that the cost of being a "townie" fan went up in terms of additional minimum (and required) "contributions" to the University. While the Athletic Department may think of this as "appropriate" support for the team, my parents rightly called it blackmail and walked away. And now after $30 million in recent renovations (including 22 new suites), the Corporate and other Elite takeover of Iowa State football can continue on to a new level. This is Ferengi capitalism at its best or maybe they're just catching up (again) with the University of Iowa. read more

I'm a Cyclone fan for life so it was nice attending a football game at this beautiful stadium. The view from our seats were really good even though we were in row 19 (middle top section). We could easily see the players and the plays they made. ISU hosted Texas on Halloween night and it was a great outcome....24-0!! The 2 big jumbo trons were very helpful when seeing replays and if someone tall is blocking your view. The grass on the field seemed like it's handled with extreme care and the overall view was just stunning. Maybe it was cause I'm so used to seeing the games on TV :) Only downside is parking but that's the case with all college and professional sporting games. Parking was $20 and that was a good 10-15 min walk....so bring cash ;) read more

The legendary Jack Trice Stadium. Home to The Iowa State University Football Team, and creator of my love to tailgate. I yearn for the days of getting up at 6am, drinking a beer in the shower, and saying today is college football Saturday. Load up the week's ration of beer, booze, and meats. (Then take out some of the meat to fit more beer) Throw in your favorite still in working order collapsible chair. Pile in and get to the stadium just as the sun starts to dry the dew from the field. Start the grill, and take in the atmosphere. Flags of all sorts saluting. A symphony of hip hop and country. The alumni setting up a more sophisticated buffet (that eventually you get to eat some - ask first jerk). A flow of people and excitement comparable to the Skunk River 100 feet away in the swollen spring time. Game time! (slam time) Approaching the gate, you begin to hear the player's warmup music, and change emotions from festival to pride and anticipation. The stadium itself is truly great. You are never too far from a bathroom (busy at the breaks of course). Concession lines can get slow. There are no obstructed views. The addition of the new scoreboard is a great tool for the fans. With the stadium accoutrements, and the great attitude of alumni and students, Jack Trice is a great place to be on college football Saturdays. read more

Come on, Man! I am a true Cyclone, through and through - how could I not give Jack Trice Stadium 5 stars?!! This place is great, especially since they've dumped a bunch of money into upgrading it. Tailgating here is epic. I believe Cyclone fans may have invented tailgating - I mean, until I came here from San Diego, I'd never seen an old school bus turned into a giant tailgating machine! I'm telling you, Iowa Staters know how to do it. Must be all the future engineers there. :) There is tons of school spirit in the stands. You'll see nothing but Cardinal and Gold and the marching band is pretty amazing, they really know how to pump up the crowd. The team isn't always that great, but who could forget the 3 OT beating of OK State and the dissolving of the BCS?! Yep, that happened in Ames. I love how students still rush the field and try and take down the goal posts, which isn't physically possible. But hey, after a day of drinking, you'll try anything - right?! The student section gets pretty rowdy as well....The CYCLONE....POWER cheer is awesome. (Did I mention I am easily entertained?!) read more

Jack Trice is a killer college football stadium that keeps getting up grades all the time! Whether you sit in the student section, or just stand on the hill where kids are throwing the pigskin around, there is really not a bad seat in the house! The metal bleachers can be a little chilly on the buns late in the season but heck they sell hot chocolate and coffee at the games so don't worry about it! BUT they sell No booze inside the stadium, so you better get your pre-game on or sneak in the flask the kids behind us always seam too! Jack Trice has evolved greatly from my time as an undergraduate at Iowa State. The addition of press-boxes and an enormous video board have really helped to enhance the gameday atmosphere. Jack Trice was built in the-mid 70s on a flood-plain. It's a much more modern and simple design that utilizes a lot of formed concrete. You won't see a lot of brick and mortar here that brings visions of guys in leather helmets, pants pulled up to almost their armpits in a flying-v formation. Ticketholders enter through chain-link gates that envelop the facility at the perimeter, set far back from the facility itself. Then a climb to the top of a small hill where the stadium sits. It's a very open and airy setup. You won't be jammed in any foul-smelling small tunnels at the end of a quarter to make it back to the concourse, but there aren't a lot of places to hide from the wind in the colder closing months of football season. A recent renovation provides ample restroom facilities. Vending here needs some work but is improving. The best part about Jack Trice is its location on a flood plain. There is a vast amount of parking immediately adjacent to the stadium. It makes it easy to park and get to the game and also allows many to indulge in that most traditional of pre-game pastimes tailgating literally within feet of the stadium. While other stadiums nestled on other campuses force their fans to tailgate in nooks and crannies next to dental buildings and labs Jack Trice allows you meander in immediate proximity to the stadium and easily find parking and friends. read more

One of my favorite places ever....the whole experience of tailgating, hanging with friends, and watching games here is what makes this great. Being an alum and seeing the changes and all the great times I've had here makes this a sentimental favorite and brings back some great memories. There has been highs and lows of emotions while watching the games, but die hard fans will have that. Our tailgates have been large and small, but the food and company is always great. 2015 Improvements underway. Jack Trice Stadium is entering the Big Time. Not with a University of Texas sized budget perhaps, but with more than enough punch to impress a junior college prospect in search of Big 12 football. The closed south end zone is looking very impressive so far and really seems to complete the stadium (see construction photo posted). read more

I was woke up today by getting an email on my phone saying I had tickets for the UNI game tonight, so I got ready and headed to Ames. We all know if you have been to a game here there's not the best parking but that doesn't take away from the stadium I think it makes it better because you get to see the swarm of people going to the game! Or tailgating! The stadium has a nice lay out, if you get a chance go in the ticket office and walk around inside the building and check all the ISU memorabilia! Trophy's, jersey and much more! The con sessions stands are one of the better ones com paired to other college stadiums, they have bottomless popcorn, pop, and coffee/hot coco! Not the fastest but it high school kids that volunteer. They have recycling containers too! Go green! If you want to have fun get to Jack Trice they have grass field seating that is cheap and decent seats or standing fun for the family, all tickets are cheap here and the cheerleaders and cheer squad do a great job of keeping the crowd in the game! read more

The music is really loud and played right up until the visiting team gets to the line of scrimmage. Negative points for being kind of childish with the music system. It's also really windy in this place, almost like they built it so that the visiting team wouldn't be able to score as easily in the 2 quarters where they are going into the wind. Probably leads to ISU being blown out a lot less than they should be, so positive points for strategy. Lastly, the south endzone isn't bowled in, so it's kind of high school-ish, and perhaps this leads to the wind issue? I also have been required to buy a whole season's worth of their product just to attend the one game that people actually care about. More negative points for that. All in all, I've been to many better football stadiums. Don't waste your time going to Jack Trice. read more

I went here once. I wish I didn't I could have seen better football at a Pop Warner game. The home team Called the police because their was something on the field that scared them and they never seen before, The officer told them that was called a Goal Line. read more
