I attended an Iowa Wild game in late December at Wells Fargo Arena and had a terrific time! The arena is very efficient; parking is easily accessible and cheap ($10), with plenty to do and eat around the immediate area. However, the customer experience and exceptional customer service provided by the arena and Wild staff made it an outstanding overall experience. There is no bad seat in the house, and everyone working the event was kind and focused on making it a positive visit. Loved the entertainment between periods, the music, and the fun things throughout the stoppages in play. Plus, the team is quite good, and our seats were excellent. Attending Iowa Wild Hockey is always a fun event. Win or lose, it is exciting and a quick moving game. This is a family friendly environment and I love how they come up with different theme nights to engage the fans. A couple of weeks ago, we attend Pucks and Paws and last night was Kid's night. I would give five stars except, in typical sporting venue fashion, the concessions are outrageously priced, lacking in taste, and variety. Let me start off by saying I am biased. I love hockey. I love professional hockey even more, and Des Moines is blessed by having options for your hockey enjoyment. This is American Hockey League hockey baby. Arguably the 2nd best hockey league in the world behind the NHL. Congratulations Iowa! It's right here in the Capital City just a few hours away from Iowa's big league parent organization up in St. Paul. You'll see speed and talent here that is rivaled by only by the NHL for a low, low price of admission. The close proximity to the big club has allowed fans here in Iowa to watch players in Wells Fargo one night and on television playing in Minnesota several days later. The Wild employ a disciplined, finesse style of hockey that isn't my personal favorite. The fights and big hits I enjoy have been infrequent this year. The talent on the ice, game day production, media production and customer service however is excellent from top to bottom. Great seats start at $18, and if you're will to look there are some good promotions that will get you great seats for weekday games at $5. Looking for a indoor sports fix during the winter months? This would be my #1 recommendation for those who like hockey, are interested in hockey, or want to see elite level athletes. read more

The Iowa Wild are an NHL Affiliate of the Minnesota Wild (playing in the AHL). This should not be confused with the Des Moines Buc's, which is junior hockey - many steps below the caliber of these players. The Iowa Wild are grown men playing on contract full-time. You will often see some of the same players at the AHL level playing in the NHL (or even olympic level) in just a few years. There are many awesome (free) things for kids to do in the concourse like shooting pucks into a net or meeting the mascot, Crash. The music is great, the venue is first-class (Wells Fargo Arena), and the team has generally been competitive. If you are a first time hockey fan, I recommend getting a seat in the lower bowl, but not too close to the glass. Glass seats are very exciting, but you will see more of the game from about 10-15 rows up. Corner seats offer the best view of the action, in my opinion. Almost all of the food vendors work the weekend games. You can park for free across the river and take the pedestrian bridge, or use the covered walkways and park a few blocks away. The will call box office is on the south side of the building, don't forget! The Iowa Wild offer many different partial and full season ticket packages. I really like the flexibility of the partial season passes. I think you can buy them in 10, 20 and full season blocks. (Check their websites). The team has some great benefits for season ticket holders like "paint the ice party" and a bbq. There is a skate with the players event that is awesome for season ticket holders. The games last about 2-2.5 hours, and you can find matinee games on the weekend or night games (most Fridays). This makes a really good date night, or for a gift idea you can arrange to have the person ride on the zamboni between periods (this is really cool). Their season runs from October to March / April. The Iowa Wild may not be a great team but their marketing and customer facing employees do a great job of making the game experience fun and enjoyable. You can count on having some groups who sing between periods. A fun completion. And contests like chuck a puck. They have pretty good theme nights. Star Wars night was really fun with a good selection of cosplayers for both the light and dark side. The even integrated an opening scroll into the pregame introductions. read more

I think that a review can come from the experience more than just one little thing or another. This night was a experience review. I had the privilege of having fantastic seats right down on the ice, against the glass on the home team side. Not even a minute into the game and there was a hockey fight. It was a intense game that the Wilds won! Lots of fast skating and good times. The over all atmosphere of the arena is good. Its a really big place. The alcoholic drinks are pricey, but heck, its all a little pricey there. Afterwards there was a concert. They took down some of the glass from around the ice and you can watch from your seats. Overall we had a fun time. It wasnt our first time and it wont be our last. I hope all the times after this one are just as fun though. read more

I got to admit, I'm fairly un-educated when it comes to hockey! Sure I have seen Wayne's World, and the Mighty Ducks and I know who the Great One is but I never grew up playing hockey even though I was only 8 miles from the Minnesota border! I went to my first NHL game this year up in St. Paul.. Went saw the Wild, it was just that! Wild, I loved it! Last night I got to go to my first hometown game, at Wells. The Iowa Wild were just as fun to watch as the pro's! The game is fast paced, exciting, and I even got to see some punches being thrown, and they weren't even over the 2 dollar 10 ounce beers for fan appreciation night! The energy in the arena is great, the fans like to have a good time and there is really not a bad seat in the house! We sat in section 112 row W and I could see everything really well, and when the action was on our side of the ice it was really exciting! You may want to pack a sweater if you are going to go to a game cause it's a bit chilly in there! But small price to pay for a fun, action packed experience! A good time every once in a while. We went last night and sat in our $10 seats which were great. We like sitting above the game so we can watch them set the plays up. IF you are too close you can't see them doing this. They aren't a great team this year but it is still fun to go once in awhile. Never sold out and not overly crowded. They run a bus up to the MN Wild once or twice a year. package includes transportation, ticket, a voucher for the game. Used to be home of the Iowa Stars and the Iowa Chops too. read more

Took my boys (ages 11 & 13) to the 3pm game on New Year's Eve. Lots of fun with a fast game and entertainment during intermission. The smaller size of the Events Center rink (how do they do that??!) is great because between that and the large screen hanging from the middle of the roof, you can see from any location. They even had "fireworks" afterwards which was a fun touch to NYE and we were home by 6:30pm. Thanks for promoting a fun and entertaining afternoon for families and we will be back!
