Based in South William St in the old City Assembly House, a beautiful building with a great history (claims to have been the first purpose built public art gallery in Europe, etc) the Irish Georgian Society is a remarkable group, which over the last 50 years has done brilliant work in preserving and promoting Irelands architectural and decorative heritage. They run events throughout the year, attended by the great and the good, with one or two characters along the way-all worth seeing-from tours of the city, country houses and international trips to parties and exhibitions, all in the name of a great cause.
One of the gems of the place is its book shop, while I believe it is strictly aimed to benefit its members, it is open to the public and houses an amazing collection of books ranging from Irish interest and coffee table books to some heavy weight academic reference material. One of the best of its kind in Dublin I would dare say! They have a members discount of 10%-so bully if you're a member!
Its well worth dropping into if your out and about in this part of town and are passing on your way to get a hipsterfied coffee in one of those fashionable cafes on the street. read more
