I ran into Rebel Farms tonight at the Pleasant Hill Community Farmers Market, but along with being a vendor they have a storefront in Mitchellville too. His products are also marketed at some Hy-Vees and are sold at Adventureland. Before recently my experience with freeze dried candy was the ice cream bars you can buy for camping and the yogurt treats you can get for babies/toddlers. My eyes have been opened up to a whole new realm in this genre. Freeze drying doesn't change the taste, but it completely changes the texture. In many cases it makes the flavor stronger. Most of it will literally dissolve on your tongue. Why? I don't really like hard candy, but imagine a Jolly Ranger that quickly dissolves in your mouth with all the flavor. Your kid have braces? No problem. You know someone with tooth or jaw issues? No problem. They don't have to go without. Most of the items disappear on your tongue. No chewing needed... The saltwater taffy is my personal favorite. Smooth and creamy and melts in your mouth. And then there's the sour Skittle and the gummy nerd clusters! So good...! Rebel Farms has the biggest selection as far as variety I've seen and those marshmallow strawberries are probably the prettiest freeze dried candy I've ever seen... It's not a grand big pumpkin patch like the other ones around town that are pretty popular, they do have activities. They have a mini corn maze and the big one is shaped like the Super Mario characters and it's a scavenger hunt that will keep you busy. There is also a campfire. I will say this place is a little run-down, when I pulled into the parking lot I wasn't so sure, don't try to be cute or where cute shoes or dress up it's pretty muddy out there. It's our little family tradition to go out a pick pumpkins with a snack and warm cider. This wonderful place has a cute treasure hunt in the corn maze, tractor ride to the pumpkin patch, corn kernel pit for the kiddos, and a small little snack shop. The owners and staff were always present, never difficult to find, and ready to do whatever it took to make the day go off without a hitch.
