We were informed that out departure flight had to be rescheduled, no big deal, but once we got the confirmation email of the new flight time, we immediately realized that this new flight lands 5 hours after our connecting flight home departed! My flight was booked through a 3rd party and when we contacted them noting this, they had to reschedule our connecting flight out of MUC to the following day. As a result, we had pretty much 24 hours in Munich. The worse part was that 3rd parties do NOT provide compensation for hotels like they would if you booked through the airlines directly... lesson learned here... Anyways, with 24 hours, I definitely needed a hotel. Initially I had a few hours to kill and had planned to spend it in the Marienplatz area. Hotels in this same area are very expensive (€300 - €400) per night. Hotels by the airport were much more affordable at €120 - €180 per night. But since my flight was not until 16:00 the next day, and with checkout at 11:00, there would be a lot of time to kill with nothing to do in the airport area. As a backup plan to Marienplatz, I had Schwanthalerhöhe mall, in case we zipped through Marienplatz. Schwanthalerhöhe is just 3 kilometers west of Marienplatz (3 subway stops), and when I searched for hotels in that area, they were similar to the rates at the airport. The hotel is 550m (~7 minute walk) from the Hackerbrücke subway station. Side note: Hackerbrücke is a great spot for trainspotting at sunset. Many locals climbed onto the bridge just to hang out and enjoy the view (see pics) Hotel Munich City was literally right across the street from the Schwanthalerhöhe mall, so the location was perfect! The hotel includes free Wi-Fi and breakfast too so that was nice. The hotel was a mix of modern with old world charm. The lobby was very small, but they also had a bar adjacent to the check in counter. The bar gave off a club vibe, warm low lights and neon signs. The hotel rooms consisted of several buildings. Behind the main one, there is a good-sized garden courtyard with wrought iron tables and chairs as well as some greenery, and beyond that, two additional buildings with more guest rooms. The rooms are simple and clean. Four beds, a small table, a mini-fridge, hair dryer, and bathroom/WC in one. Immediately we noticed that there is no air conditioning in these rooms. There are windows that can be opened, but we had a room overlooking the courtyard so opening that would also let in the noise. Luckily for us, it was a cool night, so we decided to join the drinking crowd in courtyard for a couple of hours. By 11pm, most had turned in for the evening. The beds were about a medium firmness and so were the pillows. Inside the bathroom, they had a towel warming/drying rack which was nice. We set this on before we went drinking and had some nice warm towels for our bedtime shower. The Wi-Fi was accessible anywhere on the property, and I didn't see any repeaters, which probably explains why the speeds were shoddy. They were about 100mbs, good enough to surf the net and check emails. Breakfast was from 06:30 - 10:30 and was pretty good. There was a wide variety of breads and pastries and of course, Bavarian pretzels! For proteins, they had scrambled eggs and assorted cold cuts. They also had cheeses and fruit, all your usual suspects in a European breakfast. Overall, it was a very decent stay. The hotel is definitely older, but you can tell they do their upkeep to maintain it. Aside from the lack of air conditioning, you have everything you need. There is no restaurant, but there are several restaurants by the mall across the street as well as a food court on the lower level. We ate in Marienplatz, so we were ok. Breakfast was included for diamond members, it offered a variety of delicious options, including fresh made omelets (very similar to Hilton Berlin and better than Embassy in the States). Location is perfect, next to the metro station. Hotel is located a few minutes from Old Town, a couple of stations on metro.

Rooms are a little smaller in size, but I didn't come to stay in the room, so it didn't bother me. The bathroom is a little strange just because of the design, you have to come out of the shower into a little open area that has no door, so it could be an awkward situation. However, it is a nice bathroom a good shower and a nice room in general. Very clean hotel a lot of white on the walls, our room was cared for every day, and they did a very nice job. I felt very safe in this hotel, although walking the street in this area has a great deal of activity on it, and some people might feel uncomfortable here. But I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Price is pretty good kind of in the middle of the road for a decent hotel here in Munich. A really nice buffet breakfast in the morning, is not included in the price, but it's still a pretty good deal if you want a good buffet breakfast with hot food, cakes, bakery items, fruit, cereal, and lots more. A little bar on the first floor right in the lobby area is really nice for people to come down and just spend a few minutes with some music playing having a drink and talking. One of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had…read more I stayed at Living Hotel Das Viktualienmarkt and it was an absolute nightmare. Our room was infested with hundreds of mosquitoes. I woke up covered in mosquito bites, and my partner -- who is a type 1 diabetic -- was put at serious health risk because of the bites and lack of sleep. It was completely uninhabitable. The staff acknowledged this has happened before, but still refused to move us to another room that night. To make things worse: * The air conditioning didn't work, so the room stayed hot and muggy the entire night. * The fridge also wasn't working, which caused our food and insulin to spoil. * The room was full of mosquitoes all night and we were forced to sleep through it with no solution from the hotel. All management offered was a free breakfast and late checkout. That's it. I followed up via email three separate times, requesting a refund for that night, and they have completely ignored every message. Absolutely no accountability, no care, and no professional response to a clear health hazard they were responsible for. This hotel has a serious problem with room quality, basic maintenance, and incompetent management. Avoid this place -- especially if you value your health, your sleep, or even just basic service.

There are disposable utensils in the room or you can request from front desk if needed. Only thing that would have made the stay better was a fridge, but otherwise the place was perfect. Would 100% stay here again!

I was not a fan of the breakfast at all and the automated cappuccino machines weren't great. I think I only had watery yogurt there. Having an S Bahn Train Station downstairs is convenient in order to head to more interesting areas or a way to get to the main train station. Be very careful walking in front of the hotel. We saw the aftermath of a pedestrian get taken out by a bicyclist. Munich really needs to re-think their bike lanes because there are no clear borders from pedestrians and the bicyclists ride as fast as they can with no regard for pedestrians. I'm on the fence in regard to this hotel.

Once when you leave it starts to feel a bit unsafe day and night and we even saw something going on with a bunch of police just a street over. The attached bar was nice with afternoon pastries and coffee. I would also recommend trying out the breakfast - the selection was fantastic and as someone who doesn't eat pork (in Bavaria, I know that's crazy...), it was great to see the vegan options for sausage.

Made to order omelets, these awesome herring roll-ups with a pickle inside and tons of bread, The pretzels were hit or miss, as half the time they were not that good. Lots of Nutella if you want it and pastries were plentiful. The room was clean and they did forget to replenish our washcloths a few days, boo. We hardly turned on the TV, but the screen was a large one. The staff was awesome and super helpful whenever you needed it. You can walk to Old Town in about 15 to 20 minutes and Munich is a wonderful city to visit.
