It is true everything happens so fast! Enjoy every moment of it! For the most part we absolutely did! The weather was stunning! Also the planets were in perfect alignment 12.11.21 (LITERALLY)! How cool is that? Invited 118 people, 75 RSVPd, 45 came! They say only 30% show to a destination wedding. So how much does it cost to have a destination wedding? We didn't have any rich family members to fund our wedding, so we planned and saved accordingly. Our initial budget was 20k we spent about 30k. I used the knot budget planning app. Those figures include our outfits, honeymoon, flights,transportation, yacht party. Premium dinner & Premium open bar. Photography, videographers, and floral. Ceremony & Recepption Villa Norbu is to die for. We toured the island a year prior and fell so in love we canceled all of tours. Unfortunately, if you have a later wedding it gets dark and you can't see the true magic of it for that long. The food was top notch and so was the staff. We had lamb & lobster among other things. Our ceremony was at lindquist beach. In December while still in the 80s it's their winter so you will see some seaweed. It was also a little windy which helped us stay cool in the heat. I cry every time I play the video (you can watch them on my IG @TherapyWithAsh I didn't realize we didn't pay for Janelle to coordinate until it was too late. Our wedding coordinator for the day didn't seem to be comfortable with our group. Idk if they didn't like giving directions or what? But no one knew what to do ...and then the coordinator would come to me confused. I asked if they told our guest what to do, they looked at me dumbfounded, and then I or my husband would give a direction and it was done. I didn't understand why they couldn't just talk to our guest and give directions! I.E. after the ceremony everyone was supposed to go to the cocktail party. The bridal party stayed behind for beach photos. But the guest never left and the transportation waited. The wedding coordinator simply had to tell them to get on the bus. But instead the wedding coordinator came to me and I had to direct people to get on the bus and go! Same thing before the ceremony. No one was sitting down and the wedding coordinator came to us and we had to pass the message for people to sit down. I was pulled in every direction. Literally being pulled: from the wind; to take this photo; do this; do that; and I never knew how chaotic a wedding would be! I did enjoy sitting down to eat and listening to speeches! We used DJ Dell his rates were the best on island. But he messed up some transitions and needed reminders. I think he was tired that day to be honest cause I met him on zoom THREE times! My husband and I decided to do a New Year's Day wedding, and after reading lots of reviews on sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot, I chose Island Bliss Weddings to handle our event. From first contact, Janelle was very informative and helpful, answered all of my random questions promptly (and with care!), and really did an outstanding job putting my mind at ease! I'm going to start this review with how I found Island Bliss and why my wedding was in St. Thomas. My fiance and I wanted a quick engagement (6 months) and a (not too) small wedding in the Caribbean, so I googled "Best Wedding Planner in the Caribbean." Janelle's name came up. I looked at the reviews. She works in St. Thomas. Therefore, we decided to get married in St. Thomas. It was the right decision. Not only did she field nearly a dozen emails from me before we actually booked with her, but afterward Janelle was instrumental in helping me find the right vendors, right place, right look, and then handled small day of issues. This probably wasn't easy. We had more than 50 guests for our wedding. We wanted a ceremony that would be outdoors but not on the beach. I wanted completely custom line-up of music from a guitarist (and there are not very many of those on the island). I fell in love with a videographer who had the nerve to move off the island and stop doing videos ----- until Janelle talked him into coming back to do my wedding. My fiance is lactose intolerant, so we wanted a meal with no dairy and a vegan wedding cake. Simply put, Janelle was awesome. She didn't leave out or forget anything. Our venue was perfect. The wedding cake was completely delicious. We had a s'more bonfire. I got all the wedding songs that I wanted. And, best of all, it was an incredible, not-too-casual, wedding that we all enjoyed. Janelle was not the most responsive. I'd say typically 3-4 days would pass and she would respond to an email. I never felt like she really cared and she was just rushing through email responses trying to keep up. We ended up forfeiting or deposit of $200 and hiring Laysha Powers of Irie Matrimony instead. She was fast as lightening to respond and extremely organized! This was the service and attention I needed while planning a destination wedding. Overall I was disappointed with a few things that happened while working with Janelle. I feel the same as other reviewers - as if I was a bride shuffled through a wedding factory and that there was absolutely no effort to get to know me, add personal touches or collaborate. I hired her since I wanted someone on-site day of to handle things if they went sideways. Looking back I feel I got very little value out of the services and that her team actually added stress day of. When I arrived, Janelle wasn't even there - she sent her cousin with no heads up so I didn't even realize who this person was or why they were there, as I was expecting her. Instead of managing the events of the wedding - he informed me the photographer hadn't arrived. When I asked if he had called her he just replied "I don't have cell service." Again, troubleshooting (what he should have been doing) I asked if my officiate was there, since I knew she was friends with my photographer - he said she was waiting on the beach. I asked if he had checked in with her - he hadn't. I asked if he would go check with her and as I looked out to the beach I saw a woman standing next to my officiate wearing a camera. The photographer had been there the whole time and the coordinator was just off in lalala land. I had also requested for the chairs to be set up a specific way - in a circle so everyone including my elderly grandmother could hear the ceremony. They were set up in rows, which is disappointing given I paid an extra $175 for rental and set up. It was clear that the cousin had not been brought up to speed on the events of the day. While Janelle didn't collaborate on the ceremony - she was quick to direct me to her website to rent various items at an additional charge. The other piece I found extremely disappointing is that when I told her that I had found an officiate I liked, she badmouthed him telling me that she didn't like working with him and had had a bad experience (fair if this is actually true). When I then asked her for suggestions of officiates she liked she suggested her cousin (yes the same cousin she sent to be my on-site coordinator). This was at another additional fee to the package I booked with her. He initially refused to get on the phone with me to discuss how we could personalize the ceremony and forwarded me a word doc that was so impersonal and looked like he just googled "wedding ceremonies." Given that response I ultimately booked a different officiate who was an absolute angel and gave me the time of day. She clued me in that the officiate Janelle recommended was actually her cousin. I definitely feel like I didn't get my money's worth from my package fee when the majority of things I needed were at an extra charge and I ended up doing 90% of the coordination with vendors. My advice would be to make sure that you understand what your needs are and clarify that the package you are purchasing meets those needs. If you think you are going to hire someone to be onsite and act as an extra set of hands - think twice because there is an extra fee tacked on to pretty much anything. Janelle was so easy to work with and always had answers to my questions even if she was over 2,000 miles away. I was pretty laid back and only communicated with her via email but I did know that I had the option to call/text her if needed. I trusted her judgement in the vendors she recommended (hair & makeup, flowers, DJ, etc.) and none of them disappointed. Our wedding day was so perfect and everything went according to plan. Janelle and her husband were on site the entire time to make sure everything went according to plan. I cant rave enough about Janelle, and her team - Stuart & Aaron. They were so wonderful to us and really enjoyable to be around as people. I would 100% do this again in a heartbeat. The more my now-wife and I travel to the Virgin Islands, the more we realize that there are a lot of former Midwesterners who go down there for one reason or another, and just never come back up. I'm not saying that Janelle and her husband were in that situation - but it was a real joy working with her through the entire process. I'll try to describe a few aspects of Janelle's operation as best as I can, from the groom's perspective. Responsiveness: 5 out of 5 Janelle answered e-mails thoroughly within 24 hours, and often on the same day. While this wasn't a huge deal to us (I mean, you give up some degree of "control" by having a remote wedding planner, right?), it felt nice knowing she was really never that far away. Planning: 5 out of 5 We went way back in April of 2013 to look at wedding sites on St. Thomas. Janelle went out of her way one day to meet us at a restaurant by Magen's Bay to give us her advice and observations, and through that process, we "settled" on Lindquist Beach at Smith Bay. Her planning after that was absolutely spot on. Each time we needed something (decorations, flowers, additional rentals, etc.) or every time we had a question, she would clearly and patiently explain things to us. Amenities Offered: 5 out of 5 (depending on what you want) I don't remember the name of the package that we got, but it was either the Caribbean Wedding Dream or the Blissful Package. This is what my wife and I needed: chairs, bottled water, rum punch, aisle decor, flower petals for the flower girls, additional bouquets for bridesmaids, transportation for us and our 21 guests from a cruise ship to the wedding site (without the bride and groom seeing each other), transportation to the reception site, and then finally back to the ship. We had our own officiant, and we got photography and videography through recommendations that Janelle had. We had to ship a few things to her at the office prior to the wedding, and that was no problem at all. I mean - at every step of the way, and at every locale (The dock, the courthouse, Lindquist Beach, Sunset Harbor, back to the doc), Janelle and her staff really pulled through and didn't leave us hanging or stranded on ANYTHING. And sure enough, a few weeks later - our official copies of our wedding licenses were mailed to us, thereby completing the wonderful experience we had with her. Cost: 5 out of 5 I don't know how much wedding ceremonies are supposed to cost. However, I felt that what we were charged for the package as well as other amenities were quite reasonable given the fact that things in the virgin islands tend to be a little bit more expensive. For example, the additional bridesmaids bouquets were 65$ (something similar in the states would be 45$, but again...there's a cost of living and commodity difference down there). Janelle's prices are clearly listed on her website and include all service fees for her, but please remember to tip the people that help you out (steel pan player if you get him, the bus drivers, etc.). The key thing to remember is that she's much cheaper than trying to go through a cruise ship to do the same thing, and because everything was so well organized, it really does take the stress off of you (the people getting married). Overall: 5 out of 5 Not to say this in a mean way, but if (heaven forbid) I ever have to do this whole process again, I'd choose Janelle and her staff in a heartbeat. One observation that I do have is this. If you're choosing to get married in the virgin islands and you're based stateside, be mindful that you may not always get every single thing that you want. For example, my wife and I weren't particular about the flowers in the bouquet. All she said was, "I'd like some tropical flowers in purple and white" and Island Bliss really delivered and pulled everything together. I know it can be hard for some of you out there who are used to planning everything or at least having a grasp of everything that's going on - but honestly, if you're getting married in the islands, just let all of that frantic behavior and tendencies go. Enjoy your day - it truly goes by faster than you'll remember. DO NOT HIRE JANELLE. We had the worst wedding ceremony. We did the "just the two of us" package. Such a waste of money. The vendors we hired through her, Blueglass Photography, and the guitarist Chris Roberts, were terrible. Blueglass was an upgrade, yet we had an amateur the day of, who lacked creativity and didn't bother to tell me about my tangled up earring or lipstick on my teeth. Chris Roberts agreed to play the songs we selected through several emails. On the day of, he was over 20 min late. The beach was getting really busy and we were sweating. He never apologized, and then expected a tip at the end of the ceremony. He only played two of our requested songs and then decided to play whatever he wanted. We spent months picking our songs and confirned with Chris just a few weeks before the wedding. The officiant forgot we wrote our own vows after I had handed them to him before the ceremony, and almost pronouced us man and wife. I also ordered a custom boutineer and got something different. We contacted Janelle immediately and did not hear from her for several days, yet she said she would be available on her cell the day of. We addressed the issues with Janelle and while she agreed to a refund for the boutineer, getting a refund for the songs not played was a nightmare. Janelle said we had to deal with the Chris on our own because she already paid him and didn't want a bad relationship with him. She kept making excuses for him and even suggested that maybe he played the songs while we were away taking photos. That's funny because the video we recorded on our phone of our ceremony shows otherwise. We tried contacting Chris but he never responded to our request for a refund. We didn't hear from Janelle for several weeks and were expecting a check in the mail for the boutineer. I emailed her asking her where the refund was and she said it was on the way along with a partial refund for the songs not played. I was surprised and am not sure why she changed her mind. We eventually recieved a smashed box that was not taped on the ends with a loose check just barely peeking out. I could not believe she just threw a check in there like that, not even in an envelope. Janelle was extremely difficult to work with from start to finish. She was often cold and short in her emails. At times, I had to resend emails because I would never hear back from her. We are redoing our wedding ceremony next year elsewhere. It seemed liked no one cared about our big day. They were extremely kind in making our dreams come true for our wedding.
