I worked for island marine was promoted to barge lead and the position was taken away from me after proving I was more capable than his other leads. Tim is a child in an old man's body. They will ammend your contract without your knowledge they will make adjustments to suit themselves. Maybe at one time they had decent craftsmen I cam tell you from experience they are hacks . Every single one of them. They installed a lift for a customer named Rager on 10th Ave south in st pete they were only permitted for 2 poles . They added 4 poles and a lift and now I'm turning them into code enforcement. read more

1. Somebody named Tim came and looked at our broken boat lift, took a video making notes of needed repairs. He quoted around $900 for the repairs and said it could be completed be the end of the following week. 2. The following Tuesday someone from the office called and asked if I knew what repairs/parts were needed since Tim was unavailable. I explained that he had taken a detailed video and there were multiple items and I wasn't an expert and they'd need to ask Tim, however we were anxious to get it repaired by the end of the week as promised. 3. When I didn't hear back by COB Thursday I called the office, who tracked down Tim, who told me he would have a quote for me tomorrow. I explained I don't need a quote, he already gave me a quote last week, I needed him to fix the boat lift this week like he promised. Tim said he'd call the production manager (?) to explain how he "overpromised" and have an update for me by 10am Friday. 4. 10am Friday came and went without a word. After compaining to the main office again I finally got an email quote for cables only and was told they'd "try" to get me on the schedule for the following week. Hard pass. I had trouble finding ANYTHING out about Tim and Island Marine before I hired him, I had several glowing comments from people in our marina. I was able to find his license on the state listing but NOTHING else! He has done an amazing job of staying under the radar for 21 years. No accolades, no complaints--NOTHING! He took nearly two and a half months to finally start the job. I thought I understood what he promised until he said he was finished and wanted paid. He stormed off in a huff when I refused to pay until the job was completed. One of my referrals told me before I hired him, ". . .once you pay him, you'll never see him again." Six appointments later, he finally finished, not all he promised to do but what we had agreed at a minimum he would provide. Two things I STRONGLY suggest if you do business with Tim. Get it in writing at the beginning AND DO NOT PAY HIM UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED with the end result. read more

Tim and his team installed a new boat lift for us over 2yrs ago. The installation went very smoothly and they ran a very professional operation. We were/are very satisfied with the quality of the lift with encased and sealed lift motors and metal bunks. Two years later we are just as happy with our decision to use Island Marine. Island Marine rebuilt my lower dock. I was not convinced that the dock truly needed to be totally rebuilt. When his team showed up and started demolishing the old dock it was immediately clear that my dock was on borrowed time. The Island Marine team was prompt, professional and answered all my questions.
