My doctor recommended this place, but I really don't understand why. I've never had physical therapy before, and from day one I felt like my therapist was annoyed with me because I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing. Many of the therapists there are friendly and personable except for the one I was assigned to work with. I welcomed the times when she is too busy to help me, and another therapist has to step in because they are much nicer. My entire life has been affected by my injury, and she always seems bothered when I ask questions. Clearly this is just a job for her, but perhaps only someone with a passion for helping people should be in this field. After doing PT here for about 6 weeks I saw little improvement, so I finally decided to find a new place. Now I'm working one on one with a therapist and realized during my first session that I wasn't doing the exercises correctly at Island Shore, but I didn't know it at the time because no one really makes sure you're working the right muscles they just send you off to do the work on your own. At my new place the therapist stays with me the whole time and feels my muscles to make sure the correct ones are firing. I've made so much progress since changing facilities. The takeaway is that if something is not working for you it's ok to make a change. read more

I don't get all the hype, my expirence was just ok. The place is completely overbooked so appointments last over 2 hours, the staff isn't attentive & expects you to know where things are/what to do after one visit. I hurt my knee & was told "don't do anything that bothers it". Turns out I had a decent injury that was going to be left untreated. The quality of care overall is mediocre so I suggest going elsewhere. read more

This is the second time I've had to have shoulder therapy and these guys are the best. There's a reason why this place is always busy. It's because they're good. From the front desk to all of the physical therapists, to the owner, everyone is super nice. I had the good fortune to have Chris McCarthy as my physical therapist and I noticed a difference in my range of motion within a week. He's very thorough and knows his stuff. Once you learn your exercises, you're on your own but everyone is very helpful, if they see you need help with form. I highly recommend Island Shore. read more

After multiple surgeries (spinal and 2 new knees) I was advised by my surgeons that physical therapy was an essential part of my recovery and I needed to take it as seriously as the surgery itself. When it came time to pick a place for PT I was directed to Island Shores PT in East Islip by many different people. These people included professionals, friends, neighbors and even a few people who I know where very picky. From my first phone call to their office, I was treated as a valued patient. Megan, the office manager, offered me the welcoming support I needed from handling the insurance coverage to appointment making and arrival instructions. Upon my arrival I was evaluated by Chris McCarthy who started my PT. During my many visits (I had multiple major surgeries) I was most often treated by Megan (a physical therapist), Carrie and Deanna. Due to my schedule I also was treated by other members of their staff, each one was as focused as another. Office staff has no common sense. I called on a Wednesday to follow up that they were able to get my workers compensation approval and I was told yes just waiting for your orthopedic office to fax rx and approval over. Made an appt for Saturday and told them I would also follow up with office to make sure they fax what was needed over. Whom ever I was on the phone with stated she would do the same as well. I get to the appt to be told oh we don't have your paperwork we can't see you but you can reschedule and fill out paperwork. Seriously someone should be going through new pt's charts and making sure all paperwork is present. If it's not a phone call should be made to the pt letting them now so the person doesn't waste a trip to the office. Common sense is lacking in office staff. Its true what they say about first impressions and I was not impressed so I am not going back there. read more
