Unfortunately quite a few people also seem to share my predicament, which often results in a pile-up of buggies and pedestrians attempting to cross Barlow Moor Road, especially on Saturdays. The shop is great, but they need a bigger pavement. Like out of the blue in Chorlton, Evans sells a wide range of fresh fish and is home to friendly and helpful staff. As Angela B. stated they stock pretty much every type of fish you could dream of. And should you have a particular fishy requirement which they are unable to fulfil, then they will order your desired fish in for you. My personal favourite are the fish kebabs which are often on display in the window. Sure, at £1.99 each they are much pricier than Tesco's offerings, but they are a really good treat for a summer barbeque. I've never bought any fruit or veg here - there are cheaper and more diverse offerings down the road at freshsave, but it's worth noting that Evans also sell Christmas trees and turkeys in December.

They also sell poultry (including Game) fruit & veg... as Chris has already stated, the prices are above those you would find in a supermarket, but the difference in quality is instantly noticeable, even more so when eaten! The staff will cut your fish or poultry to your liking and they will be more than pleased to help....don't be surprised if they add some free advice on cooking your purchase.

Despite passing this place on my school bus for 5 years however I'd never spotted it before. I now realise this has been a huge oversight on my part! I went with a group of 10 people for a bday celebration of an ex housemate. The staff coped really well with a big group and we were taken very good care of. They don't put a tip on as standard even for a large group - I prefer this practice, other restaurants please take note! The interior is nice, basic rather than luxurious but this adds to the atmosphere. They have a good drinks menu, I shared a carafe of red wine with someone and it was decent for the price. The menu has lots of choices, too many - I wanted everything! I had the deep fried halloumi in batter. It was delicious, perfectly done but I'd have preferred a better salad garnish, it just had 3 wedges of raw tomato with balsamic glaze. Friends shared the mezze platter and this looked great. Everyone said the starters were fantastic. I then had a steak casserole dish with star annise and cinnamon. The mains come with a choice of rice, chips, salad or roast potatoes. I went for chips and they were perfectly cooked, the rice looked good on other plates too. The meat was tender and the onions in my dish were lovely and sweet. I really enjoyed it. They brought out a piece of chocolate fudge cake with candles and sang for my friends bday, a nice touch. We all tried a bite of cake and the fudge icing was delicious. I had a medium sweet coffee which was the only down side of this meal for me. The Greek delight it came with (a piece of pink sweet very like Turkish delight) was amazing but the coffee itself was very bitter and full of grainy residue. Overall I loved it, really want to go back and try someone dishes. Needs to go on the list for yelp events I think!

It was so small you had to go through the kitchen to use the toilet. The choice of food and drink did surprise me.. how could they find room to stock it all? With loads of different sake, juices and wines. Selecting a glass of plum wine ..himself green tea we pawed the menu. There was a great use of pictures which helped us decide. From various sushi Nigiri, temaki, sashimi etc to noodles and ramen dishes. I found the sushi a little over priced to the average sushi joint of this nature..we decided on the 12 piece sashimi and sushi platter ..for mains I chose my usual spicy seafood broth with udon noodles, beef and kimchi. Himself had the beef yakisoba. We inhaled the sushi as soon as it hit the table. It was good healthy amounts of tuna and everything tasted fresh. The wasabi did not mix well with the soya though.. My main was a far cry from what I had at Baekdu the week previous. This was packed with veggies..tender beef and seafood. The broth was also excellent. Looking up I could see my other half wolf down his..giving it the thumbs up . Overall the service was very good and food was a stark contrast to the restaurant. I would probably use this more as a takeaway if I were local but I wouldn't go there to eat again as didn't find it relaxing enough.

It seemed as though a lot of locals did the same too, as people kept popping in to investigate whilst we were eating, in the hope of an opportunistic free table. Despite only opening three weeks ago Sakura Houses' popularity is clear, the restaurant was packed but it's also only 6 tables, which may play a part! Either way we were lucky enough to snaffle a table for two off-the-cuff as there was a 45 minute space before a booking and our waitress was happy to make time and space for us. Due to being short of time we decided to stick to a simple meal each, so we didn't sample the sushi - which seems to be the main fare. I opted for a comforting plate of pork katsu curry and it was very tasty and freshly cooked, so fresh I almost burnt my mouth on the cutlet! My only issues were that it is currently cash only and that my meal came a good 5-10 minutes after my partners - but I honestly think these are just opening month niggles. Sakura House isn't fancy, it's an honest little restaurant with lovely staff and I think it's a welcome and refreshing addition to the area.

Wow! What a place to stumble upon while walking …read more Was in town with a colleague from Columbia, who had never tried Korean beef and saw this small place on the corner and immediately caught my eye so we went in. A couple of large tables upfront so we opted for the back room, just a couple of tables. There are several tables open so we grabbed us a table.. This is old school, original Korean barbecue. You cannot get much better than this and just buy the decor. , the cleanliness, the authenticity of the staff I knew we were in the right place. We got seated, grabbed us an Asian beer, and looked at the menu. The chef/ owner came by as we were looking at the menu and actually steered us in the right direction. We chose several items so chose the So-galbi seasoned beef , muchim- lettuce and salad, yukgaejang soup, then some kimchi cabbage I just had to try. First the beef came out and they put it on the charcoal grill and began cooking. It was already seasoned, but dipped it in the sauce and wrapped it in lettuce and added some salad and it was fabulous.!!! Absolutely wonderful!! I got a rice and kimchi bowl I believe and I can't remember what it's called as we let the chef kind of bring us what she recommended and let her guide the table.. My colleague had the soup and it was just exactly what she was looking for!! Large bowl of beef with vegetables and noodles in a stainless steel bowl served hot, the perfect dish to go with the lettuce wraps we made. So as we ate through the beef cooked at the table, with lettuce, added salad, all the flavors merged together for a perfect blend of Korean barbecue that told me we were eating the real deal bbq. It's hard to be specific but with several beers, and about an hour taking our time enjoying every bite, after seven days already in Stockport this was the best meal both of us have had all week. We have two more weeks to go and expect we will come back here again, but all I can say is what a hidden gem of a place with a great atmosphere, great service, and priced moderately. Highly highly recommend!!!!!

We ordered: Bulgogi: £14.50 Dawaeji-galbi: £12.50 This is already quite expensive for BBQ but then we had to pay an additional £4.50 each for the lettuce! Kimchi is also charged at £4.50. Instead of plain rice we ordered a dolsot bibimbap which obviously worked out more expensive but again £12.50 felt like a lot I don't think this is just inflation, because at Seoul Kimchi the bbq and bibimbap dishes are each about £4 cheaper and I would be surprised if you're paying for lettuce. Soju is £14.50 a bottle, beer is £4.50, tea was £3.80. The meal for two came to over £90. I never normally focus so much on price for a meal and frankly I'm normally not that bothered but for the location I cannot understand why it is so expensive. I actually prefer someone to be involved in cooking my BBQ so I don't mess it up but I can see how another reviewer ended up with burnt meat, ours was also cooked a lot but still very tasty.

so I make it my mission to find good Japanese sushi restaurants…read more. This was on my next hit list..so travelling down on Easter Sunday I was prepared for this place to be closed like everything else...thankfully it wasn't.. You cannot miss this place as it has quite a garish red sign with flapping Japanese banners..ducking under these will lead you into a small sheltered place with laminate floors and pine tables. When we sat, we were facing the open kitchen, where a waiter approached us asking if we wanted sushi..of course! The menu offered the usual sashimi, maki, nigiri and udon noodle dishes , but it was 8 pieces each for around £4-5 mark, We ordered the tuna sashimi, nigiri and salmon maki... After seeing previous reviews I chose the recommended salmon teriyaki which is one of my favourites anyway! I have to admit the thing that kills the atmosphere is the lanky waiter.. who was more wooden than the pine table. There was no emotion whatsoever, when he took the order it was flat, and his face expressionless.. Anyway when the sushi arrived I was impressed with the size of the maki roles. The quality of the tuna was also excellent, beautiful red coloured meat in thick slices...nom.. however I love making a small paddling pool of wasabi and soya sauce,, So I was dissappointed when a tiny shallow dish was presented..in seconds this was demolished, and I asked the waiter for some more...I was hoping he would just give me the bottle. but he brought another shallow dish over instead.. When the mains arrived, these looked divine. The beef in the udon soup dish looked good, but apparently the taste was not your average ramen dish...it was flavoured differently.. My Salmon Teriyaki was beautifully cooked in its nice sticky glaze. The portion was just right for the price. The sake was your averages £6.50 for a flask price but was presented in a nice patterned set. After the meal it was discovered that they don't take card ..and when I asked where the toilet was I was baffled when I couldn't find it..the place is only small! Eventually we found out you had to go THROUGH THE KITCHEN which left me feeling uncomfortable..especially because I'm a klutz.. Overall it was worth the trip for this amazing sushi.. to make it 5 star they need to replace/inject life into that one waiter, offer card payments, sort out the bathroom arrangements and leave a soya bottle on the table!

But I'll be restrained because you can't call it nearly perfect. The place itself is quite "down and dirty" and I'd advise everybody to make sure that they nip to the loo BEFORE visiting their establishment, but the food really can't be faulted. All the sushi is made in front of you, and it is fresh and flavoursome. I'd highly recommend the gyoza which are cooked to perfection every time I go and always make me want to order more. As mentioned in a previous review the sashimi platter is fantastic and at £13 for an entire boat of fish, is great value. I'm not going to state it's the best sushi place in Manchester, but I'll say it's the best I've tried so far.

Istanbul Palace opened its doors a mere 8 months ago but has already started creating a buzz…read moreamongst local foodies. A Turkish restaurant with Iranian owners might seem a strange mix at first but the unique Persian themed establishment turned out to be a perfect scenario for a Eastern cuisine aficionado like me when I visited recently. The restaurant is surprisingly big with 75 covers and decor is nothing short of stunning. The walls adorn Persian art and each diner also gets to dine with their own unique table cover art. The food isn't bad either. Having chosen a weekday for my latest foodie adventure I wasn't expecting it to be overly busy and it wasn't. This meant I could have a proper gander, take plenty of pics and chat to the manager. It turned out to be a great choice resulting in a fantastic first impression which concluded with me letting the chef pick my two mains (Which at £12.95 I thought was decent value given the quality of the food) So, what was the food like? Well, I started with the 'Olivieh' which was a mild yet utterly delicious side to go with the Lamb sizzler main. At first it looked like a yogurt based chutney type concoction that usually goes with the lamb, but upon investigation turned out to be something much better. Made with shredded chicken, potatoes, egg and mixed with some mayonnaise the recipe seemed so simple yet laced with genius (According to my taste buds anyway) I'm definitely making the stuff at home and cheat claiming it as my own at my next shindig. The lamb sizzler was the main attraction however and boy was it box office. Cooked in some special sweet (Chinese style sauce) the meat was tender but had a barbecue like taste and the vegetables that were cooked and served with it were divine. The accompanying rice and salad complemented its taste perfectly and though I forget the name of the two sauces served on the side (I MUST have them again) they were sensational. The incredible, belly busting night was rounded off with a special home made ice cream. I'd never tasted anything like it. It was the culinary equivalent of some kind of weird yet wonderful foodie dream. It completely confused the hell out of my foodie senses. It looked like ice cream but tasted like.... hmmm how shall I put this.... a cross between Turkish delight, frozen yoghurt and ice cream. Daaaamn it was good though. The only downside was I was too full to finish it, doh! (The lamb sizzlerwas a sizable main and had wiped me out) The only slight downside to this place is its location in the heart of Stockport. Let's face it, it's not like everyone from Greater Manchester flocks here for a night out/dining out experiance when Friday comes knocking. But perhaps, just perhaps... Istanbul Palace can change that (They have a belly dancing entertainment night, which looks ace and I might check out) It certainly has changed my mindset about coming to these neck of the woods. It's a smashing little foodie hidden gem which is guaranteed to be not as busy and rowdy as most of the city centre haunts if you're looking to get away from the kitchen and dine out. Despite a bit of a parking nightmare on the road, it gets much better after office hours (After 6pm parking is free) when it's quietened down. With it being only 10 minutes walk away from Stockport train station (which in turn is around 10 minutes away from Piccadilly) it's not that difficult/time consuming to get to from the city centre. The bus routes are also quite good with the restaurant being 5 minutes walk from the central station. In fact I like the place so much I might register a yelp event for those interested in checking the place out with me when I return. So watch this space, or if you're not a space watcher check it out your yelpity yelp self!
