So we're at our hotel breakfast the other day comparing notes with some people that we had just met and they suggested we consider this restaurant for dinner. We did and it was worth it. The service and environment were friendly, and the food delivered. We enjoyed a Burrata tomato salad made with arugula, focaccia, penne pasta arriabata, and a rib eye steak. We also purchased a bottle of Italian wine, a barolo that was very nice. I will tell you that if we had drank more going to the bathroom, would've been a harrowing experience as the bathroom is located upstairs up a very narrow, steep stairwell. So, this Italian restaurant is very worthy of being considered while you're in downtown Amsterdam. read more

Due to extraordinary reviews we looked forward to an amazing Italian meal with our group . We were one of the first tables before the rush but almost last ones out . Appetizers Carpaccio with rocket salad and cheese 4 stars Salad Caprese 3 1/2 stars Tomato Soup 3 stars All the appetizers were decent and fresh Entrees Beef Filet with mushrooms and truffle sauce -- beef was disappointing . Chewy and very gamey . Hard to cut through 2 stars Branzino with white wine sauce 3 1/2 stars Calabrese Pizza 4 stars the best if all the entrees we had Carbonara 3 stars very average T Bone Steak - again the beef was very tough, chewy and gamy. Charming small place 1/2 block off the main thoroughfare Geldersekade near Nieuwmarkt, Chinatown (which has a fascinating history) and the Red Light District. As other reviewers have reported the Pasta Bolognese and the Pasta Parmiagiana were fantastic. We have small appetites (the two of us generally split most meals), we asked our server if the plates were large and he said "they are one person". We wanted to try more than one dish so we ordered the two pastas above. We could easily have split either dish, but for people with more "normal" appetites, the servings were just right. Service was excellent. Coming from the states, it takes a little getting used to servers that aren't always asking you how you are doing every 5-10 minutes. There was one server and six tables on an early Sunday night. He did very well. The drinks were good, the atmosphere and food felt authentic. They were friendly and fast. OH MY GOODNESS!! from the time we walked through the door and greeted by the host, we knew it would be special. The service was 10 of 10. we felt like the only customers in the restaurant! The food was delicious -- we tried to lobster ravioli, the cheese wheel pasta, and ariabatta along with the bruschetta and focaccia. All of it was delicious!! The cocktails were spectacular. Cancelled reservation less than 24 hours before hand without warning- poor customer service

I love Italia Oggi! I learned about it from dear friends who had dinner there years ago. They sent me a photo of them with the owner. When I visited there myself in 2024, on a Sunday night, the owner was not there, but his son was and when I showed him the photo of my friends and his dad, he suggested we get a photo of the two of us. We did. Then I just was back again with my sister and brother-in-law and I showed them both those two photos and they suggested getting a new one of the three of us. We did. Now I live in California, so it's not like dropping in because I'm in the neighborhood, but this place feels like family!! They delivered a fabulous dessert for my 80th birthday. That is family! We've been going to Italia Oggi for 10+ years and always try to make it our first stop for dinner when visiting Amsterdam. This trip was no different. The owner greeted us immediately and welcomed us like old friends, and his son Adel took great care of us. Good location, a short walk from the main train station, and right on the edge of the famous "Red Light District". The food is great, however I wish the portions were a little larger. The decor is a combo of simple modern with a touch of old European. The service is quick and friendly, and if you order pasta , you get "dinner and a show", because they bring out the flaming cheese wheel to flavor the noodles. As soon as we made our plans for this years' trip to Europe, which we knew would end in Amsterdam, we began looking forward to returning to "Oggi" again! Thanks to an informed and helpful concierge at the Hilton, we discovered "Oggi" in 2016. We've been back in the country a total of 4 times. We have eaten here every trip - - and sometimes - - like our previous trip and the one this June - - we ate here twice! It's just extremely great genuine Italian food served by a family in a comfortable but not pretentious setting. It's a bit hard to find, but worth every bit of effort! Our first night we have the fresh pasta, topped off by Parmesan cheese scraped from a giant "wheel" of cheese! We made dinner reservations for a party of 6 for 6:30pm. upon arrival, we were escorted to their sister restaurant, Black Olive, around the corner instead. I believe the menu is identical so it was no problem. just found it to be a bit odd. Food was delicious and the service was amazing. We only had one mistake whereby one of our party ordered the chicken thigh entree but was given the lamb kabobs in error. They corrected it in a timely manner so again, not a problem. We were looking for a place to eat outside the main tourist area. We had a group of twelve or so and it was tricky to find somewhere that would work. I saw that Italia Oggi had good reviews so we gave it a try. They seated us quickly and were very pleasant after we sat down. The menu was typical for an Italian restaurant and had a good selection of pizza and pastas. The ambiance was casual and the prices were reasonable. For me two things stood out that really led to the 3/5 rating. The service was fine. The server tended to be gone for long periods of time which tends to be the norm in Europe relative to the US. The wouldn't split the check at all even though the waiter said they would do two checks when we sat down. Again, pretty typical for Europe. Overall though it just felt like we were annoying the waiter more than anything else. I ordered gnocchi which is a dish I really enjoy. They were baked in a dish with red sauce rather than boiled. The sauce was fine, but not particularly good. The larger issue was that they were very over cooked and very mushy. Gnocchi are a difficult dish and you have to get the cook time just right, unfortunately for me this was way off. The other diners in the group didn't have the same issues, but it was a huge let down for me. read more

When in Amsterdam and craving Italian food... go here. This place was fantastic, authentic and very close to Old Town. I had the Zuppa di Pesce with squid, muscles, white fish and shrimp. It was excellent! The broth was so good with the crispy garlic/Parmesan bread. Super delicious and recommend. My wife had the spaghetti bolognese, which of course, I tried. Ok, full story... I've got a brood of very picky eaters (4 daughters) and Italian is one of the very few cuisines upon which our family all agree. So, they weren't really up for trying any of the local Holland fare after a long day of walking throughout Amsterdam, and they basically demanded that I find a "cute" Italian spot with good food, or else. Italia Oggi didn't disappoint. We arrived about 40 minutes before dinner service, but they welcomed us in and gave us the royal treatment. Our waiter/host was incredibly friendly and entertaining. His recommendations for appetizers, entrees, and deserts were all on point, and he even helped us out with some proper Italian pronunciation for "very good!" We started the meal off right with an antipasto tray of various cured meats, fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, grilled veggies, and fresh arugula (a def must for all things Italian). We also shared a warm, garlic flatbread, with homemade herb/garlic butter and olive paste (both of these were outstanding). For our entrees three of us had pasta parmigiana, hand-finished in a giant cheese wheel, then covered with a wonderful bolognese sauce. Two of my daughters had pasta with pesto, and they were very satisfied. My most finicky daughter enjoyed a Margherita pizza... the crust was stellar! We finished the meal sharing three different deserts: chocolate lava cake, tiramisu, and a bowl of mixed gelatos (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry). All three sweet choices were fantastic, but the tiramisu stole the show with its light texture and not-overly-chocolate self. So far, this has been my favorite meal from our European jaunt, and Italia Oggi is officially one of my Amsterdam Spots that I'll be hitting up on our next visit. read more

Went here with a large group for dinner. I got the spaghetti Aglio, olio, e pepperoncini, and it was simple, but delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked. they did bring out a few bottles of chili infused olive oil, but no bread so we were a bit confused. Staff/Service - The staff was so kind and welcoming! Super attentive and friendly. Ambiance - Family friendly & homey. Most places in Amsterdam have a homey feel, so this was par for the course. Food - - Bruschetta: We love this little appetizer moment. Fresh, tasty, did the job. - Bolognese: Definitely my favorite! Meaty and packed with flavor. - Mushroom Ravioli with Truffle: Good, but a little lacking in the truffle department. I've definitely had better back home. - Parmesan Pasta: This needs to be requested via your waiter and is made in a cheese wheel - super entertaining to watch and makes for great pics. I've never had red-sauced pasta made in a cheese wheel so this was definitely a first. I enjoyed it but it wasn't as creamy as other cheese wheel pastas I've had in the past. Attentive service, despite appearing shorthanded (maybe only 2-3 waiters for busy restaurant?). The food was good and fresh, however, the waiter that took our order appeared to misunderstand that we wanted a pasta dish with seafood (mussels, shrimp, etc.)...what we were served was simply pasta with fresh parmesan cheese, which was one of the daily specials.
